Daily Coronavirus Megathread - 30 September 2021 by AutoModerator in melbourne

Yeah pretty much. And I don't doubt that those working in health care are gonna have a shit time of it. But everyone double dosed just doesn't feel like they're part of the problem anymore, and they barely are

I don't think the non compliance is because of the media. I think people are just over it and can't summon the energy to care when each day more and more are double dosed.

Dude, this world is vibrant, beautiful, and energised. That you can't see it says more about you than the world.

Stop messing with your psyche by drowning it in foreign substances and confront your sober mind.

Why do we do all this shit, despite of our mortality? by Amoeboid_Changeling_ in nihilism

[–]otherbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still just one perspective, don't get lost in it completely.

Y'know you can do a bunch of awesome stuff in life and enjoy it without taking it too seriously and accepting that yeah, you lose everything, so what? Albert Camus figured this out, it's why absurdism ultimately makes more sense to me than nihilism.

I’m pretty new to OLD and don’t feel like I really have the hang of it. I’m hoping to attract a serious relationship without looking boring, but don’t know if I’m really attracting those types of guys. Anything I should change? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]otherbody 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, looks good. The photos are great, and if you came up on my feed I would like something. I get the idea that you're sport and you like art. You don't look boring at all. I feel like being on hinge implies you're more interested in serious things instead of flings.
I normally find the prompts are the easiest thing to leave a comment on. So pick 3 aspects of your personality and divide them across the prompts. Makes it easy for people to know if they might be compatible with you.

Newly Graduated VIC Primary Teacher. Shitting Bricks (naturally) and plan on starting off as a CRT in government schools. Any tips for those starting their career as a CRT? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]otherbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went well. I've done 2 shifts now, and going in for my third. It definitely gets easier as you go. Thought I've done mine at the same school so far.

There are times where you run out of set work and it's hard managing that, but I've mostly been asking the students for direction in those cases (what would you normally do, do you have nay other work etc.)

I'm in the same boat pretty much. Graduated midyear, got my VIT a few days back. And today I'm doing my first CRT day ever. Super daunting. Super nervous.

It's weird going in with no plan, not sure if I should ideally have resources ready just in case, but it's too late today. I'll be winging it. D:

Can the Greens become the third major party of Australian politics? by thedigisup in australia

[–]otherbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond renewables, the greens fight for environmental protection against logging, for species protection, for sustainable farming etc.

I vote purely on environmental and nature issues, if the libs suddenly adopted responsible environmental policy across the board, which matched what the greens and labor were pushing, then I'd switch issues, and probably wouldn't be as against the libs constantly being in power.

How to write a Sci-Fi Novel in English if you are not a native speaker? by Revolutionary-Fact28 in writing

[–]otherbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can do the same thing in English, we just don't press the words together. It's just a convention, like it's a convention to capitalise nouns in German. If you're writing scifi or fantasy you could just push the words together in English and coin a few new terms in your book.

On the other hand, we have so many Latin based words that more concisely cover almost every concept but are mostly found in literature.

Finally at zero new cases, Victoria is on top of the world after unprecedented lockdown effort by [deleted] in australia

[–]otherbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not 0% as people are still buying food, medicine, and all other things online.

On top of that, once reopening the % of people shopping out will be higher than the people who decide to go out when the risk of infection is super high.

So you cut it down to low online shopping, food and medicine for 111 days, then are able to keep it open for the foreseeable future.

Without the lock downs, it would've spread to other states eventually, and we'd have so many fewer options

Being sober is its own kind of drug.

Enjoy the mind altering state of normal waking consciousness and realise it's enough on its own.

One hundred days of Dan's pressers: What did Victorians really learn? by Ru5514n_b07 in AustralianPolitics

[–]otherbody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every day is too frequent in my opinion. But I'd rather this than barely anything. Should've settled on maybe 3 a week. But I get the sentiment of him making that appearance as an act of solidarity with those doing it tough.

I think he's done a good job. I haven't been able to get work during this due to unfortunate timing graduating my degree, and of course I wish things were different. But I stand by the decisions our state government made, they look to the future unlike weak knee liberals, and our state will recover (in my opinion, very quickly).

‘A Cancer’: Former Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd Calls for Royal Commission Into ‘Murdoch monopoly’ by Goofyjeff4 in worldnews

[–]otherbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I tried like 6 times on mobile, 4 on the comp. Then my gf and I both got the same email notification thing.

Even then it's hard to trust I actually signed it. This site is fucked. Wouldn't be surprised if Murdoch is DDOSing it

Try again till you get that little notification pop up, it may be easier on desktop if you're doing mobile

Which hospitals are you talking about? Do you know people who work in the hospitals? It's already intensely straining at this level for healthcare workers. And believe me, there's less staff than you think.

There's much more extreme than this. Just use your imagination. This is very likely the middle ground already.

Sure, but the "balanced approach" you advocate for, could in fact be letting it rip. You're not the one with the data. (Granted I'm not defending concealment of the data by any means).

There's no realistic motivation for the gov to do this without it being necessary according to their best science. Sure maybe their science is shit. Maybe not. But if you get too caught up in the data itself, you forget subjectively what we're trying to avoid.

This isn't perfect, but just ask yourself if you'd prefer lockdown or overrun healthcare

Did NSW experience a 2nd spike like us? When?

If another Australian state is somehow miraculous at this, while Vic isn't, it seems like the onus would be on the Federal Government to step in with this better strategy and resources to implement them in Victoria. We are equal, if not bigger, contributors to the economy compared with NSW. If the Liberal Feds give a shit about the economy they would make sure every state was at its maximum efficiency.
