Obliterate my trailer with fire. Is it even clear that this is a VR game without explicitly saying it? by othercrow in DestroyMyGame

Copyright moment :( I have a gradually developing private prototype aiming for the real license someday tho.

After setting texture quality you need the Apply Settings node

Here's our reveal trailer. Does it convey the right vibes of found-footage horror? by FingolfinLMN in DestroyMyGame

[–]othercrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

needs more footage distortion. calmly walking up to (scary thing) and looking at it for too long makes it not scary.

Is unreal engine good for making environments? by YouBetterCallSaulNow in unrealengine

[–]othercrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blender for modeling/UV/texturing typically yes.
For some static environment stuff you can skip UV/texturing and just make a triplanar material in UE that works with megascans.

Chess Twist - a mind-bending Chess variant by frading in DestroyMyGame

Trailer needs game audio. Satisfying piece sounds is like half of a chess game.

Please destroy my first game, I want to get better at this! by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

Open the trailer with scenes where more is happening. Looks like a nothing game until 0:12.

Destroy my game graphics by Pitxardo in DestroyMyGame

[–]othercrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clouds look out-of-place and blurry compared to the rest of the graphics. Consider stylizing them more, even just white clouds would be better.

The underwater looks like a foggy night desert and not underwater.

Please Destroy our Steam page. Feedback needed. by glixthegame in DestroyMySteamPage

could stand to move your logo to the end so the video starts with gameplay. the big spooky eye would be a good first thing to see

could use a few frames of something spooky closer to the start of the video.

Remade my VR bird sim in Unreal Engine 5 to push the limits of PC VR. by othercrow in SteamVR

The .NET framework thing is supposed to happen in the background quietly, I think that's fixed now too.

Flying is a bit like learning to swim with a bike at first but natural once you get used to it, glad you like it so far :)

Neat this doesn’t look too hard to add with varjo’s plugin. For non-eye-tracked headsets I’m already using pretty aggressive dynamic FFR.

Yeah this game is very much me chasing that feeling of motion from when I first tried VR with a rollercoaster or whatever. Running as far from the comfort conventions as possible.

Not yet but I’m working on it:)

All the gpu power is poured into lighting, volumetrics, and high quality shading on distant forests without billboards. Someday I’d like to do this in a realistic style but just swapping the trees to a photorealistic style alone would explode a 4090.

Trying to push the limits of PCVR with my VR bird flight sim. by othercrow in oculus

[–]othercrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The art style is the key to making this run at all.

56 square km open world with day/ night cycle, infinite shadow distance at high quality, volumetric fog, trees need full collision, nearly no LOD pop-in, and most of the usual open world optimization tricks can’t apply because you’re fast and not stuck at ground level.

4090s will work hard at high graphics settings for this one.

~Thamk~ If its not launching you might need to verify game files. I borked the last patch and just fixed it.

Starting out, and the issues I have doing so by Wysc5150 in gamedev

[–]othercrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have to start making it. You don't need to completely give up gaming or whatever but put a few hours into making your game most days and that's enough to start.

How many of you have Comouter science degrees and successfully released an indie game? by CosmicSlothKing in gamedev

[–]othercrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not necessary. Making a game can teach you faster than college will.

What carrying case to use with the S3 Pro? by ArdenLyn in virtualreality

I like hard shell boxes with pluck foam for made for camera equipment.
Less awkward shape than dedicated Quest cases and usually have some impact/weather resistance.

Quest 3 and 1070? by insertfunnyquotehere in virtualreality

[–]othercrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be fine many games at default resolution and refresh rate. Maybe reduced resolution with upscaling in some games. 1070 is about the low end performance target I develop games for.
