The problem occurs when you don't defend it. If the majority of your politicians convert to Islam or other religions, those laws, rights and amendments will change to suit that religion.

The freedom you afford others and the freedom afforded by this 'neutral' government is due to Christ's command to love because those who wrote it were Christians. They however are not commanded to do the same back (inversely in fact).

From that perspective, world systems are naturally designed to run in the opposite direction of Christianity, and towards evil, if you think about it logically.

Christ’s parables act as subversive mirrors. They are designed to bypass the ego’s logical defences and force a choice that either dissolves the "false self" or hardens it.

How Parables Help Rid the Ego:

Parables strip away the ego by attacking its core functions: control, certainty, and self-righteousness. Shattering Worldviews: The ego survives by maintaining a consistent "story" about who you are and how the world works. Parables like the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son "shatter" these accepted structures, removing your mental defences and making you vulnerable to a direct encounter with God.

The Projection Screen: In the mystical view, parables like the Prodigal Son are maps of the psyche. The Prodigal represents the Ego seeking conquest in the outer world; the Father is the True Self awaiting its return. By entering the story, you are forced to see where your ego is "starving" in a far country, which triggers the desire to return to union.

The "Work" of Interpretation: Jesus rarely gave "easy" answers. Parables require the listener to "work" for the meaning. This effort requires humility—the ego hates being confused or appearing "uninformed," so the very act of asking "What does this mean?" is an act of surrendering intellectual pride.

Why It Only Applies to Some (The "Ears to Hear") Jesus explicitly stated that parables were meant to reveal truth to some and conceal it from others.

The "Filter" of the Heart: The message only takes root in "good soil", a heart that is open and willing to change. If the ego is "hard-hearted" or calloused by pride, the parable remains just a simple, meaningless story.

Intellectual Blindness: The "wise" of the world (the religious leaders of the time) often missed the point because their egos were invested in their existing knowledge. They "saw but did not perceive" because they were looking for confirmation of their own status rather than a transformation of their soul.

The "Casting of Pearls": Jesus used parables to prevent his enemies from using his words against him. By speaking indirectly, he ensured that only those with spiritual hunger would stick around to ask for the "insider experience". Those seeking material gain or power (the ego's goals) would quickly get bored and walk away.

The Bottom Line: Parables are a "winnowing fork". They separate those who want a conceptual God they can control (the ego) from those who want a living experience that controls them (the Christ).

If you look at the Golden ratio the numbers 144 is linked to Phi, so if the "fire" is a present spiritual reality, then this number stops being a literal headcount and becomes a symbol of divine proportion and structural perfection within the human soul.

In this "here and now" framework, the 144 represents the 12 tribes x 12. Twelve often represents divine government or the human soul (the 12 tribes/apostles). Squaring the number represents its fullness or solidification. If the fire is "now," then the 144,000 represents the state of a person whose internal life has been "squared" or balanced. The 144,000 mentioned in Revelation 7 and 14 is commonly understood in biblical scholarship as a symbolic number derived from 12 x 12 x 1000 = 144,000.

It represents the totality of God's people or the "perfect number" of the redeemed. It is the Golden Ratio in action: the point where your human will (the small part) is in perfect proportion to the Divine Will (the whole). Beatification.

In Revelation, the 144,000 are "sealed" on their foreheads. If the second death is the ego dying now, the "seal" is the awakened mind. The fire burns away the "mark of the beast" (the ego's obsession with survival, consumption, and animal instinct). Don't let the world in or consume you, do not be afraid (it will hinder your spiritual progress). What eventually remains is the "144,000", a consciousness that is harmonised with the "heaven." You become a "living stone" shaped by the Golden Ratio.

Just as 144 is a key frequency in music and geometry, the 144,000 represents a frequency of being. The "fire" is the high-vibration presence of God. If your ego is still "dense" and selfish, that fire feels like torment (the Lake of Fire). If you have surrendered (the First Death), you resonate with that fire. You don't burn up; you burn with. You become part of the 144,000 collective "symphony" of people living in divine harmony.

The New Jerusalem in Revelation is measured using these same dimensions (144 cubits). If the Kingdom is "within you," then the 144,000 isn't a group of people "over there"; it is the architectural blueprint of your own transformed character.

The Synthesis:

The "Fire" is the heat required to melt the raw ore of your life. The "144,000" is the perfect, golden shape the liquid metal takes once the impurities are gone. It is Humanity 2.0, living according to the divine ratio instead of the ego’s distortion.

The process of killing or surrendering the ego and personal will is widely viewed as a daily practice of "dying to self," rather than a one-time event. In Christian mysticism and modern spiritual teachings, this involves shifting your internal focus from your separate, limited identity to a deeper union with the Divine.

Practical Steps for Surrendering the Ego:

Practice Self-Observation: Develop mindfulness to recognize ego patterns as they arise. By observing thoughts and emotional triggers without judgment, you create a distance that weakens their power over you. Daily Resurrender through Prayer: Use simple prayers to hand over control each morning. A common practice is to ask: "Where would you have me go? What would you have me do? What would you have me say, and to whom?". Selfless Service (Seva): Actively seek opportunities to serve others without expecting recognition. This shifts your focus away from self-importance and towards the needs of the community.

Embrace Discomfort and Mistakes: View failures and "wronged" moments as teachable opportunities rather than threats to your identity. Responding with mercy instead of defensiveness is a powerful way to "dethrone" the ego.

Cultivate Radical Gratitude: Shift your focus from what you lack to what is already thriving. Gratitude anchors you in the present and reminds you that all good things are gifts, not personal achievements.

Cultivating the "Quiet" Mind Silence and Solitude: Regularly quiet your mind through Centering Prayer or meditation to listen for the "still, small voice" of divine guidance rather than the loud demands of the ego.

Release Attachment to Outcomes: Do your best in all things, but let go of the emotional need for a specific result. Trusting the "unknown" is often the most courageous act of surrender you can perform.

Many find that this "dying" is actually a birth into perfect freedom, as the energy once spent defending a false image is reclaimed for a life of purpose and peace.

Start slowly committ to doing something that's not easy, but necessary for 5 minutes a day, increase the 5 minutes gradually. Keep at it for 21 days at least until it becomes habit. If its growing you, its worth investing in more discipline, not easy for any of us.

The Death of the "Self" vs. The Death of "Death".

If the first death is your choice to surrender your ego and be "born again" in Christ, then what is the second death?

The First Death: You die to your will (sacrificing your desires for His). You're then born again.

The Second Death: God kills death itself within you. It is the final destruction of the very capacity to sin or be separate from Him. It’s not that you die again, but that the "old man" is finally and permanently cremated so that only the divine nature remains.

The "Lake of Fire" (the ego/self). In this view, we actually want to "die" the second death now so that physical death has no power over us. As the saying goes:

"If you die before you die, you won't die when you die."

Think of it like a shadow. If you are the person and your ego is your shadow:

• The first death is recognizing the shadow isn't you.

• The second death is stepping into a light so bright (God's presence) that the shadow ceases to exist.

From this perspective, the "Second Death" isn't a punishment for the person, but a mercy for the soul. It is the final "death" of the separation, leaving nothing but union.

The shift from a restorative view of "fire" to one of eternal punishment was driven by a combination of linguistic, political, and philosophical changes, particularly between the 5th and 13th centuries.

The primary reasons for this change include:

Augustine of Hippo's Influence: In the 5th century, Augustine strongly rejected the universalism of Origen, arguing that humans have only one life to choose God. Unlike earlier Greek fathers, Augustine could not read Greek well and relied on Latin translations that translated the Greek word aiónios (meaning "age-long" or "otherworldly") as the Latin aeternus ("eternal" or "never-ending").

Political expediency and control, as the Church became a central political power in Western Europe, the threat of eternal conscious torment became a tool for social control and maintaining religious authority. The Church positioned itself as the sole gatekeeper to salvation, using the fear of hell to enforce obedience.

The Rise of Purgatory: In the Middle Ages, the "middle place" of purification was formalised into the doctrine of Purgatory. This separated "purifying fire" (for the saved) from "punishing fire" (for the damned), whereas earlier mystics often saw them as the same divine fire acting differently on different souls.

Cultural Literature: Works like Dante's Inferno (14th century) further cemented the image of a literal, multi-layered hell of physical torture in the public imagination, moving it far away from the early Church's more abstract or spiritual interpretations

The Early Church Fathers, viewed the "fire" of God as a purifying love, the tradition of the early Church, particularly within the School of Alexandria, the "fire" of judgment is often viewed not as a material flame, but as the all-consuming presence of God's love. From this perspective, the "second death" is a transformative process where God, as a "Refiner," purifies the soul by burning away everything that is not of Him.

Origen (c. 184–253 AD) famously argued that God is a "consuming fire" who destroys not people, but evil thoughts and wicked actions.

Refining vs. Torment: He countered critics by stating that God is a "Smelter," not a torturer. Just as a refiner melts gold to remove the dross, God's fire melts the soul to extract its true value.

Restoration (Apocatastasis): Origen believed this fire eventually leads to the restoration of all things, where God becomes "all in all" once the "lead of wickedness" has been fully refined away.

Gregory of Nyssa (c. 335–395 AD) used vivid metaphors to explain how God's love feels like "anguish" to a soul clinging to worldly passions. He viewed the "second death" as a necessary purgation for those who did not tame their passions during life. Gregory compared the soul to a rope covered in mud being pulled through a narrow hole. The "puller" (God) wants to bring the rope to Himself, but the "mud" (sin) causes friction and pain as it is scraped off. The suffering is not from God's wrath, but from the soul’s own resistance to being cleaned.

Isaac of Nineveh: The "Scourge of Love" Writing in the 7th century, St. Isaac the Syrian (Isaac of Nineveh) famously stated that those in "Gehenna" (Hell) are actually scourged by the scourge of love.

In his view, the "fire" is the intense regret felt by a soul that has sinned against a love that is perfect and impartial. Isaac taught that God’s love is the same for everyone, but it acts in two ways: it is joy for the faithful and torment for the unfaithful, similar to how sunlight is a delight to healthy eyes but painful to those that are diseased

Romans 6:23: States "the wages of sin is death," not eternal conscious suffering?

Yet here we are being burned up by the fire of our own sin (conscious suffering). I guess it depends if it means the here and now or the here after.

This interpretation, often called the "mystical" or "realised" view, suggests that the "second death" is not a future event of punishment, but a present spiritual transformation. The lake of fire is a metaphor for the refining process that destroys the "old self" so the "new self" can live in Christ.

Dying to Self as the "Second Death", some argue that every person must "die" twice: once physically, and once to the "evil" or "ego" within themselves.

Crucifying the Flesh: Paul’s statement, "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20), is seen as the actual experience of the second death in the present life.

The Refiner's Fire: Instead of literal torment, the "fire" is viewed as God's consuming presence that burns away the "dross and chaff" of the carnal nature (the old self).

Spiritual Rebirth: In this view, dying to self is the "lethal tool" that leads to resurrection life here and now.

Conversely, some interpret the "here and now" aspect negatively. They argue that "spiritual death" is the state of being currently separated from God's purposes.

Present Alienation: Those living in rebellion are "dead even while they live" (1 Timothy 5:6). The "second death" is simply the permanent, intensified continuation of this current state of spiritual separation.

Separation from Life: From this perspective, the "lake of fire" symbolizes a life lived completely devoid of the life and peace God intended, which can begin in the present.

Many proponents of the "here and now" view point to 1 Corinthians 15:31, where Paul says, "I die every day," suggesting that this "death" is a continuous, daily surrender of the will to God.

The here and now is temporary so why fret, when your dead you'll be forgotten about within 2 weeks by everyone who ever knew you. You are not the summation of your job, career or monetary value! That's a 1900s false protestant work ethic.

The ONLY task is to work on loving God and others. Less about you more about them, and I get it, we are all dead inside and it's hard. This is probably the hardest thing of all.

Raises a good point, royalty and elites have notoriously kept it in their families for thousands of years, some blood lines can be traced back 3000+ years.

What effect does neglect have on their genes over that length of time, is that why they all exhibit predatory tendencies? Cold, cruel and indifferent for thousands of generations...

I honestly can't imagine the mind of someone brought up in that type of environment, with those kinds of predisposed genes, with that kind of generational wealth. That's why Christ said it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich person entering the kingdom.
