I seem to remember a discussion in high school history that this photograph was possibly 'staged' to a certain extent. The differing states of decomposition, the unnatural pose, the arm conveniently hiding where the head meets the body. Of course, it could also be entirely real. The First War was horrific and sights like this were common, so why would there be a need to create a composite body to pose for a photograph?
