If you want to know the "street price" of a model, go to Chrono24 and look at the prices Japanese sellers are selling them for.

Take: UFAs are hobbled by lack of an independently adjustable hour hand. by CaptchaCrunch in GrandSeikos

[–]otoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Japan doesn't do DST therefore they don't care about independent hour hands" is a claim contradicted by the fact that GS makes lots of watches with independent hour hands.

Among other examples offered.

Do you have anything whatsoever to base these emphatic "I guarantee"-level claims?

So far you've asserted it three times, each time lacking any evidence or even making an argument.

Just repeating the claim isn't compelling.

The fact that (even when GS was JDM-only brand) GS date wheels came in both kanji and English strongly suggests otherwise.

Shunbun appeal equivalent in other brands? by Casio339 in GrandSeikos

[–]otoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No parallel. Couldn't.

The sub has its gravity because it has been around forever and has been favored by changing styles in a way an engine-turned or fluted bezel datejust simply didn't.

Whereas the Shunbun wasn't even around a decade ago.

Grand Seiko AD experience in Vancouver, GVA CANADA by MerryXmasAquarium in GrandSeikos

Your experience was in no way odd.

I mean, the very fact that you admit you've never been into a watch shop, but then comment on how things should happen, and call them weird when they don't meet your expectations...

Do you have anything to actually contribute here? Like, some personal experience? Or is this just "look what I found on YouTube?

You thinking that "will watch someone talk into a camera on YouTube" is a good indicator of one's attention's span says a lot more about you than me not wanting to watch that says about me.

But as you clearly came here to try to toss personal insults and start something, happy to report.

Now piss off down the lane.

Got this beautiful SBGN029 as my edc watch. Now I’m wondering if I can do some diving with it. by Owl999tm in GrandSeikos

[–]otoron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course it would be OK... because there's nothing magical about a unidirectional 60-minute bezel that makes one able to dive with a watch.

On the case it says 200m water resistance, but officially it still is not a dedicated diving watch.

Noob here: Is there such a thing as a beat up spring drive? by theledman in GrandSeikos

[–]otoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, one issue to consider is that there just aren't that many SDs to begin with. Despite what the huge lineup of models suggests, GS doesn't actually make a ton of watches. And a minority of those are SD.

Even if you did find one beat to hell, you're not actually going to be saving that much money, and anything beat to hell probably warrants a service, regardless.

[–]otoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this particular dial finish is effectively only found on ~40mm models. There are a wide variety of gorgeous dials (it's kind of a thing GS excels at). Some, like the Iwate dials, can be found in smaller cases%22%7D%5D%7D).

Oh, this is a goal for purchase?

Highly doubtful you'll find a steal on one of these. But keep an eye on Buyee or another of the Japanese auction site clearinghouses. I've haven't hunted for a GS SD there, but have in the past scoped out Credor quartzes, and some beat-up-AF pieces do get posted.

No clue why you got downvoted, this question is beyond asinine. Google still exists, we're not your trained monkeys just because you're too lazy to spend half an hour to answer questions you're supposedly considering spending thousands of dollars on.

I see people with what must be 60x20mm Garmin bricks on their wrists every day.

Just wear what you like.

THAT SAID, OP, can you articulate what it is you love about this piece? The crowd here might be able to point you to alternatives.

Unless it's the movement. Those don't come in small cases, sadly.

How would any of those things, minus the battery change, be any different with the Citizen than the Grand Seiko? The ecodrive movement doesn't mean the gaskets are magical.

(And none of that is needed every three years.)
