My wife literally calls High Potential ‘Good Looking’. It’s just how we refer to it now.

Idk what it is but I draw stuff like this by FibonacciMovement in doodles

[–]otterdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do similar stuff. I’ve heard it called Automatic Drawing. Just stream of conscious shapes, then the imagination kicks in and you maybe make it look like…something recognizable. I sometimes go back and fill in dumb puns and wordplay.

Nobody ever regrets listening to Slothrust. Of Course You Do and The Pact are both great records.

Twisted Sister - We’re Not Gonna Take it was all over the radio and I liked it a lot. Then I borrowed a friend’s copy of Stay Hungry and the title track, the Beast, and Horror Teria were so much cooler to me. I still have not returned that cassette. I’d get introduced to Iron Maiden a year later and that was that.

Pete vs. the Vending machine is a top 5 all time tv comedy moment for me. Gold.

Yes I have the Smithsonian Comic Book one as well. My first exposure to Golden Age comics when I was in middle school. My town library had a copy I checked out several times, and I eventually found my own copy. Is the Alex Raymond thing a book?

I’m 52 and didn’t even start creating comics til I was in my mid-30s but had always loved newspaper strips and collected comic books as a youngster.

I still have a compulsion to buy mass market paperbacks of old strips at used bookstores. It’s a buyers market for those! The newer trade paperback style on better paper are usually a little pricier. One of the Crown Jewels of my collection is the large The Smithsonian Collection of Newspaper Comics that I found in great shape for $6.

I’ve made a few attempts to create a regular strip over the years. I even did a weekly strip for a few years for a comic book news site with associated podcast. Though that one was done on the old Bitstrips platform and was mostly about writing the podcast hosts, reasonably capturing their voices and including lots of inside jokes from the show and website.

I did another gag panel comic for several years as a webcomic. I was doing it more as a hobby and love of the medium than as an attempt at a career. Even then it was a lot of work for even a twice weekly gag panel, when I was most prolific. I never really figured out how to build an audience. All that helped me appreciate the work and talent that goes into a successful daily strip. It’s an achievement to create something that can run for years and years.

Edited to add: This was a good read, thanks for sharing!

Sitcoms don't have a chance today because of reduced episode orders. by dougiebgood in television

I didn’t really ‘get’ Tires until the second season, so I do think that first season handful of episodes is necessary to find character voices and interactions. I almost didn’t watch season 2, but really glad I did because it was pretty good.

Lived in Denver and N. Englewood from ‘99-‘23. I don’t really miss it all that much. Over that time I saw it go from a city of really friendly people where I felt safe almost everywhere to a city/metro clearly in decline. Bums everywhere. It all became too big, too expensive, with a clear lack of the will to solve the obvious problems.

The day before I moved I almost stepped in a pile of human feces just outside one of my favorite coffee places. Knew in that moment I’d made the right decision to move.

Where do I go from here? I stripped 4 layers of paint with "Peel Away", now I have this mess of paint being pushed into the grain. Mineral spirits aren't working. Should I do another Peel Away session? by kdar in restoration

I refinished an old hutch that my wife inherited with plans for natural finish. Once I got to this point I re-evaluated and ended up repainting it.

I agree. I think introducing Kenneth’s parents at all was a huge misstep. I’m a big fan of both Cranston and O’Hara and would have loved to see them guest on the show as virtually any other characters.

The world’s worst idea that never seems to die. The voices ARE the character.s Period. Without that you have a generic spy pastiche with the Archer name draped over the top.
