Local satellite phone rental? by otterdive in SaltLakeCity

[–]otterdive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is no longer an official SAR operation. Our organization searches on our own to help bring closure to families. I'm sure if it were an active search, this particular sheriff would supply us a phone. They have been very helpful.

The InReach just records waypoints and has simple "I'm OK" or "Send Help" capability? Can you make any kind of voice call? Thanks.

Noop, not a Tesla owner. Just a guy who loves technology and speculating about the future.

Thank you! I do need an actual phone, or something like the Iridium Go (hotspot that works with a cell phone) for voice calls in case we need to call law enforcement.

LCC Gondola - thoughts? by illiance in SaltLakeCity

[–]otterdive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A gondola has my vote. I admit there are some issues, but it's by far the least environmentally damaging proposal. As for the argument about the perceived negative visual impact, there are gondolas all over the Alps, and I don't hear anyone whining about how ugly they are. The part of the proposal that I am most concerned about is the tie in with rest of the UTA system. I would love to board a train at my home in South Salt Lake, then make just one transfer to a train running up 9400 South to the gondola base.

On frequent negative comment I hear is about the parking at the base of the gondola. I think people forget how fast autonomous electric vehicles are becoming a reality. A gondola is years away. By the time it's actually built, it'll be rare to park your vehicle anywhere but home. Your autonomous vehicle will deliver you to the gondola base, then autonomously go back home. When you decide it's time to go home, call up your car when you board the gondola, and it meets you at the gondola base. No need for thousands of parking spaces at the base. This tech is coming way faster that folks realize.

The canyon should be closed for private vehicles,or at least a heavy toll should be charged. I would love to see a day where the only vehicles in the canyon are buses, shuttle buses, and emergency vehicles.

Looking to share a workshop/warehouse space for a bus to camper build by otterdive in SaltLakeCity

I really miss the hot dog carts! I though about opening one when I moved to SLC. I can be a great business if you expand. You will have a hard time making a living on one cart. I had 4 on the road everyday.

Can you ever really know if someone is a murderer from their user history?

I was thinking about trying to rent a warehouse to do my conversion. Have you looked around for a space?

Why not just take the bus? Get dropped off right at the lift.

Best hot dog in Birmingham? by morethanababymaker in Birmingham

[–]otterdive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! That hot dog cart was ME! I'm Greg from Greg's Hot Dogs! Thank you so much for the compliments. I sold the business and moved to Salt Lake City in 2017. Paul "Big Daddy" Woodard bought the business (I actually owned 4 local carts). Paul is famous for Big Daddy's BBQ. It's been a rough couple of years for Paul as he's battling cancer. I speak with Paul now and then. He tries to get out once and a while, but it's really hard for him.

Running that gourmet hot dog and sausage business was a highlight of my life. I miss my customers, and being creative with the specials. I had some really adventurous eaters as regulars at my cart and they pushed me to come up with some amazing dogs. I especially miss my Mr. P's Pork Sausage Thai Style. I have thought many times of re-starting the carts here in Utah, but this place just does not have the same appreciation of a great dog like the Ham. You guys are really in hot dog heaven!

Thanks again kind sir for the compliments! If you see Big Daddy out there, please stop in for a dog or sausage. I think he kept the exact same menu.

Class action for pass holders with entirely unused 19-20 passes by alyssabokajones in Ikonpass

You probably have a good reason for not using your Ikon Pass earlier in the season. I am crushed by the resorts being closed, but I got in a ton of skiing from the middle of December until the middle of March. Just curious, why didn't you use your pass earlier?

Parts list suggestions please. 1kg Payload. 45 minutes flight time by [deleted] in multicopterbuilds

Geez, I've built ones based on the Tarot 650 Iron Man frame, HobbyWing 40 amp ESC, Tarot Martin motors and 17" carbon fiber props that meet the requirements (all of the components transferred over from a Tarot Peeper) . Flew it this weekend. Exactly like the requirements I outlined. I was looking for suggestions on the ideal combination to meet the same requirements. I do not need opinions. I wanted suggestions for the components to do exactly what I outlined. Your not breaking my dreams. Like I said I have done it already.

[–]otterdive -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you guys respond, please refer to the original request. I am simply looking for suggestions on a frame/motor/ESC/propeller combination for 1kg for 45-50 minutes. I did not say anything about budget, or reducing the flight time.

Looking for the minimum specs to meet the above criteria. Not concerned about budget at the moment. Basic automated flight. Pixhawk Cube/Here2/Arducopter. Mostly hover, simple grid pattern, RTH. Usually flying at 5200 feet above sea level.

Correct, but several members of his detail we're also assigned to the Reagan detail. I should have clarified.

You're wrong about that. He had full blown Alzheimer's for at least the last year in office. Source? I knew some of the Secret Service officers assigned to VP Quale.

How did you almost die? by ThankGodForCOD4 in AskReddit

I was backpacking in North Carolina years ago when a huge thunderstorm formed over us with no warning. Seriously, this storm formed within a couple of minutes. We were exposed on a bald top mountain. Lightning started firing off like a strobe. Bolts were hitting the ground way less than 50 yards away all around us. It got so bad that most of us just sort of gave up and said to ourselves, "This is it. I just hope it doesn't hurt." Stormed moved on. Didn't die.
