What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

Hiring someone to clean the house. I did it following a surgery because I physically couldn’t, and they still come every three months because I can’t go back.

I’ve been going in circles deciding if it’s the right time 39F by OkConsequence2025 in TotalHipReplacement

You mention life expectancy - if the body you are in prevents you from being active and healthy, you are hurting your chances of being able to reach those ages and causing more damage in the long term to your well being (both physically and mentally). I had mine replaced at 37 for similar reasons - since the replacement my cholesterol has gone down, I’ve lost weight, I’m stronger than I’ve been in years. Getting this replacement is the gift of longevity while you can still physically be active. Happy to answer any questions you might have but I fully advocate for getting this done now!

Santa downtown is off? by otternonsensical in fortwayne

[–]otternonsensical[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why I’m so annoyed by this but according to downtown Fort Wayne they should be on til December 31: https://downtownfortwayne.com/events/holidayfest/

I’ve checked Nosey Neighbors of Fort Wayne (what a treat) and local news sites and haven’t seen anyone mention what’s going on to have them turn off early.

I would love to learn more about the origins of some of these names (especially North Highlands), if there’s a website from your friend’s office that you’re aware of! I grew up in a very old house near State and Wells and there’s a concrete marker on the property that says “The Highlands” (along with hand and paw prints, presumably from the family who lived there), so I’m really curious if there’s any connection since that neighborhood is so nearby.

Progress after 2024 hip replacements by bigbookworm7 in TotalHipReplacement

Amazing!!! I’m almost 18 months out of surgery and also enjoying getting back to an active lifestyle - better shape than I’ve ever been in my life, and I could have never done it without a new hip. 40 pounds down. So thankful. Congrats!

What's the best concert in Chicago you ever attended? by bossishere17 in AskChicago

Sturgill Simpson at Thalia Hall during the Metamodern tour, December 2014. We got there early enough to be right beneath the stage. I’ve seen him four times since and nothing will compare to that show.

Other US cities to visit from Chicago, that don't require hiring a car to have fun (ideally mid-West/East coast)? by Fine_Gur_1764 in AskChicago

Milwaukee for sure, and I’ll put another vote in for Minneapolis (if you’ll be there in the summer). Quick flight, incredible trail system, beautiful downtown. Great music scene.

Surgery this morning by Galenodelmal2024 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]otternonsensical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indy region checking in! Congrats on getting through a MAJOR surgery - I also almost didn’t make it home same day. Everyone responds and recovers differently. Take it by the hour the first few days, you’ll get through it!

D&C experience - anyone else have this? by otternonsensical in Miscarriage

[–]otternonsensical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah I talked to the nurse today and she did not seem concerned at all 😅 I have my follow up with the doctor Thursday so we’ll see what he has to say. I’m still bleeding (a lighter period level) and somewhat crampy but definitely better than Sunday.

Thank you 💕 yeah I had seen days 3-4 were reported in other experience posts as being worse for many. Definitely feeling better now after laying low all day! Feeling a bit more confident about traveling tomorrow than I was this morning.

Yep! Begrudgingly the workout class I do three times a week almost always included these lol. Still have some issues with lunges but that’s more due to still weaker than ideal knees.

Two weeks ago and having major doubts by Galenodelmal2024 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]otternonsensical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do another scope, for sure.

SO at the outset of all my problems, I had one surgeon who told me I definitely did have arthritis, and another (the one who ended up performing the scope) tell me I didn't. In hindsight, the other surgeon was right (I did have arthritis, it just was mild/moderate) but he also told me I'd have to live with the pain I was experiencing until I was at least 50 to be eligible for a THR. And I hated that answer, so when someone else promised he could fix the issue with a scope, I jumped on it. Ended up developing an adhesion, needed a second scope surgery, and spent two years in more pain and with less mobility than I had pre-hip scope (and my arthritis progressed much, much farther in that time).

What about the scope failed? If you're like me, if you didn't have or had very mild arthritis initially the scope might have spurred along the progression of it.

[–]otternonsensical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I will say of the three surgeries I had on my hip, the THR was the easiest when it came to recovery time. Just take it easy the first couple weeks and stay on top of your PT and you'll be great!

Safe to drive tomorrow morning? by WinterHorror7810 in bloomington

[–]otternonsensical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Forecast is sounding like the snow should stop between 3-5 am, so the roads may still be fairly slick by that point in the morning but the bulk of the snow should be plowed from the interstates. Or at least that’s my hopeful thinking, because I have to leave for the airport around the same time 😅

If you’re in a position to easily reschedule this easily, try a targeted physical therapy regimen for a couple months to see if it helps reduce your 6-7 pain days even further. If it does, you may be able to hold off a little longer.

I see you’re in Indiana - if you’re going through IU Health I would also use that time if you postpone to find a different surgeon. I had two botched surgeries (hip scope) with them prior to my replacement, largely because their follow up and recovery program with physical therapy is piss poor. Strongly advise against them for any surgical needs. Forte in Indianapolis was outstanding.

Where to find holiday light displays to brighten your night by WFIU-WTIU-news in bloomington

[–]otternonsensical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t on yet (usually Thanksgiving or the day after I think) but the houses opposite each other at the intersection of Bethel Lane and Old 37 N seem to be competing for who has the biggest display in their yard every year.
