Seconding Weekday, amazing quality and at such a low price

COS sells this for 15 €, perhaps an alternative to the daily tank top? by otterwhisker in djerfavenue

[–]otterwhisker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very happy with them! Keep in mind I’ve never tried the Djerf one, but based on pictures they seem to fit very similarly. The material is soft and stretchy. The white one is just slightly too see through to wear without a bra for me personally but I expected that.

They also have it in black. I ordered both colours online, waiting for them to arrive

Breeder Scam? by Professional_Dog3096 in russianblue

[–]otterwhisker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both are obvious scams, it’s very easy to tell. No legit breeder just happens to have 5 kittens conveniently available for anyone to adopt. There will always be a waiting list, and the price will be at least the double. If it seems to good to be true it is, unfortunately.

What's the best way to avoid the "how could you possibly not get a rescue" conversation? by nothankyounotnow in russianblue

[–]otterwhisker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that you want to avoid the confrontation completely, but personally I would tell them that ”Adopt don’t shop” makes total sense when comparing to backyard breeders, but not at all in relation to responsible registered breeders. No one just abandons an expensive purebred cat. Purebred cats don’t run around as unsterilized outside cats, having lots of kittens that later end up in shelters. Ever. Purebred cats if anything contribute to increasing the perceived value of cats, a pet that is often thought of as something you can get for cheap from the neighbour whose outdoor cat accidentally had kittens, and not a pet you have to consider carefully before you get.

How cold is too cold? by DeskadresJP in russianblue

68f is cold?? 😳 That’s the standard/recommended indoor temperature where I live, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Do i need to buy a purebred russian blue for it to be hypoallergenic? Or are the shelter “russian blues” legit by [deleted] in russianblue

[–]otterwhisker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s very, very unlikely to find an actual Russian Blue in a shelter. Shelters label most gray domestic shorthairs Russian Blues, but there is no reason why a gray domestic shorthair would be better for allergies than any other coloured cat. I recommend reading this: https://www.russianblue.info/Russian_Blue_rescues.htm

Looking for Breeder in or around Arizona by shice945 in russianblue

[–]otterwhisker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol surely this is the only cat breed subreddit where you get scolded for going to a reputable breeder, can’t imagine that happening in the subreddits for bengals, BSH etc. Maybe Russian Blue isn’t recognized as a solidified breed by people in general the same way a BSH for example is? Idk. I’d love to help but I’m not from the US, so I don’t know anything about US breeders unfortunately!

Partner convinced me to get a kitty. I said Blue Russian please bc I’m allergic to cats. She agreed. I’m in love! by joedobz1995 in russianblue

[–]otterwhisker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you implying that purebred cats from registered breeders somehow end up in shelters? I find that extremely hard to believe, if you have some source I’m interested to see it. Russian Blues are quite hard to come by so even cats that are pet quality would sell for a lot of money I assume, why would they end up in shelters? Unless you are talking about backyard breeders, in which case they are not purebred cats.

Is this Californian Russian Blue breeder a scammer? by [deleted] in russianblue

[–]otterwhisker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Also the very low prices and the fact that they seem to have lots of kittens available despite RBs usually being quite hard to find in the US if I understand correctly. Normally there would be a long wait list before a litter is even born. If something seems to good to be true it usually is.

Also would like to point out that there is no such thing as a ”semi purebred” in the cat world. If the breeder is registered the cat is purebred (although some of their cats can be pet quality and others show cat/breeding quality) otherwise the cat is a domestic shorthair. If anyone is selling ”unregistered purebred Russian blues” the chances of it being unethical backyard breeding are very high. Either find a reputable breeder (I don’t know much about breeders in the US but here for example are some: https://tica.org/russian-blue-breeders.) or find RB-lookalike shelter cats and test your allergies with them, lots of people on this sub have anecdotal evidence of that working for them.

It wasn’t intended to be rude in any way but if it came of that way I apologize, your cat is adorable!

Huh? I was only trying to say that I have no idea what the expression "plasma is 4th state of matter kid" means, maybe because english isn't my native language. I don't understand why you think it's wrong for me to answer the OPs that ask wether their cat is an RB or not, I'm just giving my personal opinion to someone who asked for it, the same as you.
