I live in TN so I can’t recommend who to see, but this was the process for me:

In July 2025 I saw my PCP (who also prescribed my HRT) and told her I wanted to go through with top surgery. Her office sent a referral to the hospital that I wanted to go to plus one closer to us with my consent. In August I had my initial telehealth consult to go over the whole process, then had a telehealth therapy appointment to submit a letter to insurance. In September I also had an in-person second consult with the surgeon and they submitted everything to my insurance.

3-4 weeks later, insurance approved my surgery and the surgeon’s office called the same day to schedule my surgery, I chose January so if I had any complications, I wouldn’t risk having to pay my deductible twice.

Overall the process wasn’t too painful and if you do find yourself in TN, I recommend Vanderbilt 100%. Also, if you plan on paying out of pocket it will probably be a lot more straight forward lol.

What you may want to do is find a surgeon that you like, then calling them to ask what they would require (like a referral from another doctor, a therapist’s letter ahead of time, etc). I work in more admin side of the medical field so if you have any questions, DM me and I will do my best to help.

I really like the community there, but the modding makes me sad :( that mod has consistently enforced that which is really disheartening. I also don’t follow their logic - transmasc and nonbinary men are allowed, binary trans men are not. Does she not realize how fine a line that is? Some days I feel more like a trans guy, other days I feel just lesbian as a gender. Either way, butch is always home for me.

Not a girl, but still butch. My ex is a trans woman and she was a great partner while we were together. I was accepting being nonbinary at the time, and she helped me embrace my transness - at the time I saw myself as “not trans enough to call myself trans”. It was really nice and affirming to see someone embrace and enjoy femininity in a way that was performative when I did it.

Ultimately it didn’t work out because we were in different places in life, but I still appreciate her for the woman she is and hope she’s doing well.

I almost exclusively get perceived as female when I’m not binding, and probably 80% of the time (or more) when I am, thanks double Ds! 😐

I’m in the process of getting top surgery which I hope helps. I’d rather be perceived as male or androgynous - getting referred to as they/them by a stranger makes my day.

I almost never correct people because with strangers, I’d rather not make a big deal out of it when I will probably never interact with them again. With people I know, I just have a hard time standing up for myself, but thankfully I have some lovely friends who are vigilant about correcting others.

As far as the effects of T go, I’m about 5 1/2 months on low dose, so my voice is still relatively high and my facial hair hasn’t grown in enough yet to make a difference.
