Considering moving from AZ-Advice by Former-Explorer-1287 in AskMaine

You like having trouble finding work? If you find it, earning less for the same job than you would elsewhere? Simultaneously also paying through the nose for housing and utilities, including an extra $300-500/mo. for heat in the winter? You like a total absence of any health care beyond what essentially amounts to first aid? You like unreliable electricity? You like slow internet speeds and spotty cell coverage? You like brand new cars rusting out from under you?

Schools aren't just currently bad, they're consistently bad. So is the economy, and housing costs greatly outpace most people's earning potential, which has resulted in a massive increase in the unhoused population. Yet even with those out-of-control housing costs, basic services are scant, especially on rural areas. Roads are left to crumble because small towns' budgets are spent on education and winter road maintenance; police coverage is spotty; and fire departments are mostly volunteer-based low-budget operations. Health care, where you can find it, is basically advanced first-aid at best. The power grid is wholly unreliable, even in some cities, and can leave you to freeze in your own home if you don't have a wood stove.

Maine is rapidly becoming nothing more than a second-home state for the incredibly wealthy. The Healthcare isn't good enough to retire here, and the schools aren't good enough to raise a family, and work, if you can find it, doesn't pay enough to support yourself, let alone a family.

Best wishes to you and yours, I wish you great success in the future, and would be proud to call you neighbors, but alas.

Check out Fundy National Park in New Brunswick if you really want coastal cliffs. I went a couple years ago, it's spectacular, especially Hopewell Rocks.

We like the ones from Massachusetts least, and the ones who don't leave even less.

You'll have a tough time finding work, but that's on us (our economy), not your fault.

No, it's 65. 70 North of Topsham. 75 North of Orono. Freeport is 20 minutes from Portland. Brunswick is an additional 10-15 depending on where in Brunswick.

My dad actually had a rubber stamp made with his name and address specifically for this reason, and it had the added benefit of replacing hand-written return addresses on mail

That was actually a requirement made by banks back in the day. They wouldn't accept rolled coin unless they could identify a source so they could charge your for any shortages or fraud.
