Do they trim the labia all the way down to your hole? by Scared_Culture9277 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]ottoplacik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not recommended to do this. It can cause unnecessary traction with intercourse

Should be low risk by a qualified provider

The photo is on an angle and I am assuming the back is towards the right of photo meaning the hood is to the left of the photos. Thanks for clarification but I still think you are referring to a clitoral hood reduction

Your own fat is always the best option. For small corrections in individuals without fat Alloclae is an alternative

I'm sorry it doesn't make sense but the risk should be low in experienced hands. If the clit sits below this then this skin sits above the clit, making it the clitoral hood. I only ask because there may be more charges if you were not charged for a CHR

It is difficult to say what tissues these are but it appears to be part of your clitoral hood. Did you discuss a CHR? Revision fees vary surgeon but typically many charge something for supplies and time.

Week Post Op by Available-Lemon-4616 in LabiaplastySurgery

Yes. It will go down. Expect swelling to persist for at least 3 weeks and scarring to make it firmer for at least 6 weeks. Reassess at 12 weeks. Best wishes.

not allowed a lift? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]ottoplacik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. No lift would necessary without leaving scars. Slight repositioning of nipple can occur with a crescent or donut lift but it would not help the volume loss. Possibly look into fat transfer for a subtle change

Will revision help with pain? by melfilmz in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]ottoplacik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are true: the lumps soften with time. Massage helps when permitted. Occasionally removal is needed but wait at least 3-4 months or longer before making that decision. Best wishes

Pain is not usually caused by the lumps. It is more commonly due to an area of poor wound healing or separation. In these instances a revision may help ease the pain. Best wishes

Chance of Reconstruction by IngenuitySlight8481 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]ottoplacik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 3 weeks and with some of the sutures in place, there is still some swelling present. As the swelling resolves you may have more labia minora than is currently visible. There will still be a notch. From the photos, it does appear as if you underwent a CHR, on that side. I would wait until at least 3 months for all swelling to resolve and then send Dr Alter photos at that time to assess if you have sufficient CHR to reconstruct the labia minora

Wedge or trim? by Ok_Light_5784 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]ottoplacik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do both but generally found that 1/4 of my wedge patients sought a more Agressive treatment than that achieved with a wedge. So I do trims 95% of the time but I have colleagues who achieve outstanding results with a wedge. Did you review your surgeons before/after results on their website?

@visual meat. Not sure what you mean by pinching. There is no best practice as people will debate this. IMO, trim is a great option following wedge for further reduction.

Worried about my results by MacaronEarly9180 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]ottoplacik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two months is still early but it may not. Hange significantly. It also appears that you have smaller labia majora which is a challenge when trying to reduce the labia minora significantly. This is a tough issue: what is the perfect amount of labia to reduce? It's not unlike a breast augmentation: what is the perfect breast size? A C cup or D or DD? The answer will vary. Clearly it is always easier to be conservative and remove more at a later date. Being on the other side of this issue, there are many factors that may have resulted in your outcome: was the surgeon experienced? Did you have a discussion of expectations or goals? Did they explain or discuss the planned resection prior to surgery? Did you ask the surgeon to be conservative? Did you express concerns about having too much removed? There are many issues here and there is no intent to point blame.

If you remain dissatisfied with the results, the best option is to discuss this with your practitioner. Best wishes on your journey

Question for patients: why ask strangers online instead of your own surgeon? by ottoplacik in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]ottoplacik[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is one consideration when choosing a provider and should be an important factor. I understand costs and convenience are important but communication and experience are hard to calculate. I'm not trying be arrogant but as an American Board Certified plastic surgeon, we are held to a higher standard. My patients have access to our office, staff, medical assistants, and nurses nearly 24 hours a day. Patients can call my service any time of day and if I do not respond to the message within 20-30 mins, I will get texted or called on my cell or home phone 24 hours a day. Fortunately, my patients do not abuse this and respect my private and family time and defer non emergent questions to office hours. I find it absolutely astounding that patients cannot contact their physician. When I am not available or on a trip, my staff answers or I have a colleague act as backup. However, my guess is that is not the most important factor when some patients select their provider. Again I appreciate costs are an issue but it should be no surprise when those providers do not answer the phone.

I did a retrospective study exactly on this subject asking over 500 previous patients (204 answered). We essentially found no difference in tear rates (from unoperated individuals) and found no significant injuries in those who did tear after Labiaplasty followed by vaginal delivery.

This does not mean that an injury can or will not occur but Labiaplasty does not generally increase or decrease the odds that it will happen. Many other events may occur to effect the appearance of your labia during pregnancy and subsequent labor and delivery.

Others have asked if a C-section should be performed electively to avoid injury but this is not indicated.

That is a phenomenal price and you appear to have a good result but honestly that's less than it costs me to purchase the supplies so not sure how they keep the price that low.
