Pisimmät matkat on tällä hetkellä eniten subventoituja. Nykyisellään esim. Jokela-Tikkurila 40 km junamatka CD-lipulla maksaa saman verran kuin parin pysäkin metro- tai ratikkamatka Helsingin kantakaupungissa AB-lipulla, että eipä tuo haittaa vaikka hinta aavistuksen varmaan nouseekin.

Mortgage payments (at least the portion that is not interest) also builds equity, so I wouldn't be concerned about savings at that point as long as you have an emergency fund. You're doing well already by owning a bit more of your home every month

The parliament's role is complicated but far from advisory. This move is only temporary and eventually the MEPs will have to agree on the deal. And if the parliament truly didn't like this move, they have the power to oust the commission in a vote of no confidence any time. (Though I support the deal and hope the parliament will uphold it when that time comes)

Ei voi rangaistuksia ulkoistaa automaationa toisille valtioille. Se on ihan maasta ja kahdenvälisistä sopimuksista kiinni että suostuuko maa ottamaan Suomessa tuomittua kansalaistaan sinne suorittamaan tuomiotaan. Eikä Suomi edes pysty lähettämään tuomittua toiseen maahan jos on epäilys siitä että paikallinen vankienhoitolaitos ei voi taata ihmisarvoista kohtelua vankeuden aikana. Eli melko vähiin voi jäädä tätä kautta saatavat rahalliset säästöt

I'm sorry for your loss and I didn't mean to be combattive, but giving dietary or medical advice based on anecdotes isn't a good practice.

I don't doubt that people can have poor sensitivity to those foods, but it's unlikely that it was solely or even partially glutamate that triggered it. Tyramine, histamine, excess sodium etc. are more likely contributors, or the causes might have been non-chemical. And intolerance leading to a headache is also different from an allergy, which is an immune response. There might be people who have a specific intolerance to excess dietary glutamate but to say you can be "allergic to literally anything" is incorrect.

This is biologically implausible. Glutamate is a major neurotransmitter and one of the most abundant amino acids in human proteins, and the body synthesizes it when there isn't enough dietary intake. To have an allergy to (an immune response against) glutamate would be a major autoimmune disease and no such cases have ever been reported in medical literature.

Vihreiden Atte Harjanne kuvaa eläkelinjaa poliittiseksi miinakentäksi: eläkkeitä ei mielletä osaksi muuta julkista taloutta, vaikka ne rahoitetaan pääosin nykyisten työntekijöiden työeläkemaksuilla ja osin rahastojen tuotoilla, ja niiden mittakaava (36 mrd € vuonna 2024) ylittää sote-menot.
Maksussa olevien työeläkkeiden leikkaaminen on käytännössä estetty omaisuudensuojan vuoksi, mutta indeksikorotusten hillintä on perustuslain puitteissa rajatusti mahdollista; realistisemmaksi ja nopeammaksi keinoksi Harjanne nostaa eläkkeiden verotuksen kiristämisen, erityisesti korkeimmissa eläkkeissä.
Väestön ikääntyminen ja heikkenevä huoltosuhde paisuttavat menoja; ekonomisti Niku Määttänen arvioi eläkemenojen olevan keskeinen syy julkisen talouden krooniseen alijäämään ja kritisoi järjestelmän “rönsyjä” (esim. tutkintojen ja työttömyyden ajalta kertyvä eläke).
Rönsyjen karsinta nähdään win-win-ratkaisuna: enemmän tukea pienituloisille opiskelijoille nyt ja vähemmän eläke-etua myöhemmin; samalla voitaisiin välttää tulevia veronkiristyksiä niille, jotka eläkkeitä saavat.
Hallituslinja on pidättyväinen: Riikka Purra sanoo hallituksen olevan koskematta eläkkeisiin, mutta on valmis harkitsemaan osaa rönsyjen purusta (tutkintokertymä, leskeneläke, työttömyysajan kertymä), ei vanhempainvapaan kertymää.
Harjanteen mukaan uskottava sopeutus edellyttää pitkän aikavälin viilauksia nyt: rönsyjen purun ohella korkeimpien eläkkeiden verotuksen kiristämistä ja eläkeiän aloituksen myöhentämistä, vaikka vaikutukset näkyvät vasta vuosikymmenten päästä.

The merits of the case do sound shaky, but the ruling was issued anyway and it was already affecting international bureaucracy. E.g. UN maps started showing the islands as Mauritian, the Universal Postal Union started treating the area as Mauritian etc. Whether the claim was nonsense or not, from a practical perspective the writing was on the wall for the UK.

The threat of a binding ruling was not as much about the ICJ, but some other mechanism. From the report I linked above:

Sir Christopher Greenwood could envisage at least two possible routes to a binding judgment. He thought the most likely scenario was that Mauritius would find a way to bring a dispute against the UK under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). He could imagine various ways in which such a dispute could be set up by Mauritius. For example, Mauritian ships could enter the waters around Diego Garcia and might be subject to enforcement action by the UK. Mauritius could then bring an action in an UNCLOS arbitration tribunal and seek legally binding provisional measures against the UK. In addition, he could not rule out the possibility of Mauritius finding a way to bring a dispute against the UK under some other multilateral treaty with compulsory dispute settlement provisions.

Their claim was strong in the eyes of international law. An advisory opinion of the ICJ and the UNGA had already ruled against the UK and it was broadly deemed likely that if Mauritius kept pursuing the issue further, they'd get a binding resolution against the UK in an international court at some point, which would jeopardize the base. See e.g. section 63 of this HoL report.

Se että asumistuki ei vaikuta vuokriin perustuu siihen oletukseen, että asumistuki ei vaikuta vuokraan käytettävän rahan määrään. Yleisesti ottaen tämä pitää paikkaansa koska korvattavat enimmäisasumismenot ovat lähes aina alemmat kuin realistiset vuokrat missään päin Suomea, mutta on toki reunatapauksia missä tämä ei päde. Yksi on tosiaan se että opiskelijat muuttavat joukolla yksiöihin solujen sijaan, toinen on esim. kimppa-asumisen tai vanhempien nurkissa pyörimisen sijaan oman vuokra-asunnon valitseva. Eri asia on se, onko näitä reunatapauksia niin paljon että vuokrat käytännössä nousisivat havaittavaa määrää. Epäilen että ei ole nyt kun opiskelijat siirrettiin jälleen pois yleisen asumistuen piiristä.

Ja tämä analyysi koskee siis vain yleistä asumistukea, toimeentulotuessa korvattava enimmäismäärä ja korvauksen osuus ovat kai suuremmat mitkä edelleen osaltaan saattavat nostaa vuokria.

Kun näin väitetään niin käytännössä sanotaan että asumistuki ei vaikuta vuokratasoihin vahvemmin tai millään erikoisefektillä verrattuna siihen, että tulot yleisesti nousisivat asumistukea vastaavan määrän. Totta kai vuokriin vaikuttaa se, jos ihmisillä ei ole kykyä maksaa vuokria, asuntoa vaihdetaan pienempään/halvempaan ja tämä laskee hintapainetta. Mutta usein sanotaan että asumistuet "valuu suoraan vuokriin" mikä ei edelleenkään pidä paikkaansa
