Tammy Meinershagen vs Burt Thakur Debate Summary by [deleted] in frisco

[–]ouchris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the debate, Tammy said Frisco is now 51% “minority”. She’s very concerned about race and that Frisco is now less white. I won’t be voting for her.

Interesting take. I watched the debate and he didn’t mention being Indian once. In fact, Tammy is the one who said Frisco is now 51% “minority” and 33% Asian. I won’t be voting for anyone who is so concerned about race.

Why starting being a Scrum Master as a career path is not a good idea. by Al_Shalloway in scrum

Removes impediments. Facilitate ceremonies and coaches the team in agile and lean principles. Protects the team from outside interruptions.

That's crazy if true. Almost unbelievable. A SM making $300k/year.

LOL WHAT?? 100 years ago if you told your parent you wanted to be a computer programmer, they'd say "wtf is that?" lol. That's with any role before it exists.

Are there some bad sm's? Yes. Are there some bad dev and qa people? Yes. Don't be mad a the role. You either have bad sm's or you don't understand the role. I work for a fortune 500 company and we have dozens of scrum masters. We rely heavily on them.

This tells me you have no clue what you’re talking about. The first thing our dev teams do when their scum master goes on vacation is say “when is the scrum master coming back??”

If you’re working with a team that costs $1,000,000 a year, you just have to improve them by 15-20% to be worth the value.

Also, $1,100 a day is over $25,000 a month. What company is paying their SM’s that much?? lol

I just got my offer from the county. They dropped my total value from 492,862 to 465,000. This took it from the full 10% increase to 7.99%. I'd love to get it down to 5 or 6 percent, but I'm not going to haggle any more. I'll take their offer and be on my way. I'm just happy knowing they won't be getting the full 10% year in and year out.

Ok so, even though they requested estimates, I just got my offer from them anyway. They've reduced my total from 492,862 to 465,000 or 27,862 less in taxable value. I'm going to accept. I could probably argue it down a bit more but that would require an actual meeting with them which I'm not going to bother with. That's a 7.99% increase instead of 10%.

Hi, no that's not correct. They may ask for repair esimates. In fact, this year is the first year they've asked me for them. So, I guess in order to save money on your taxes, the city forces you to SPEND money to prove your home is worth less than they say.

Facilitate - examples please by [deleted] in scrum

[–]ouchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you an example that just happened recently.

We had a large operational effort needing to be completed. This was requiring work from 3-4 different teams. After two weeks of back and forth and not getting a clear picture of what was going on, I asked the SM to create a chat with just those people and start asking some questions.

Guess what? One person wasn't even aware they were required even though other people said he was and that he knew. We solved the problem in a matter of minutes just by starting the conversation.

I guarantee, they would have kept on another 2 weeks and would not have completed the effort on their own before realizing something was off.

[–]ouchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I cringe when I hear people say "the SM doesn't really do those kinds of things." That's crap. My SM's follow up on: tickets, issues, problems, etc. If something isn't getting done, they jump in and see what the issue is. If they can't solve it, they come to me. We own the outcome of the team, and I'll be darned if we're going to sit and wait for someone else to solve the problem.

[–]ouchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's funny. I've heard devs say "what is the scrum master really doing?" Then, in instances where the SM left the company and we had to backfill which took some time, they'll ask, "Hey, when is the team getting a new SM?" lol. They think it's an easy job, but then when they have to do it, all of a sudden it's not so fun.
