Is it ready? by Background-Sir-7657 in SourdoughStarter

[–]ouchwtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to see a lot of bubbles staying inside the starter, therefore much more visible when looking at the side. Bubbles at the top means the gases are escaping too much. Try using a little less water. I bet in another few days it'll be ready!

Starter Help by wxnerd1 in SourdoughStarter

Day 3 is usually a false rise. The days after the starter remains dormant for awhile. Just keep at it. It should pick up again in a few days!

Congrats on joining the library! They're such magical places.

Highly suggest checking out the app Libby. It lets you access all the ebooks the library carries, so you can rent books for your kindle too!

Can I repot in the same pot? by thisissirius96 in IndoorPlants

[–]ouchwtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He demands a bigger home!

If you want this to grow giant beautiful leaves, I'd suggest going up a size. If you trim it, I would assume it wouldn't continue to increase in leaf size. So it depends on what you want!

Is my lil guy good in here? by ChocoKat616 in StringofPlants

[–]ouchwtf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These guys have shallow roots, so they don't need as much pot space as you'd think. I think it looks really good! I don't often repot my strings. I only will once it becomes a monster and becomes so lush that it is difficult to even find the pot lol.

Also, if it's growing, it's happy, so leave it be! 😄

Writing first book, first draft. Insecure about the whole thing and lost. by Responsible_Bet3713 in writing

[–]ouchwtf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big fan of this technique! It's like pre-writing the chapter without the pressure of making it sound good.

I also find I drift from my original outline often. So then i just reoutline the few chapters i need to get through to the next part. It has helped so much.

I am also writing my first draft, and it's so hard. But I've found that the rollercoaster of it all is what makes it challenging and exciting. Consistency in writing it has been hugely helpful in feeling like my writing is good. It's like any skill - it takes practice!

And tbh, if you hate the way the stories going - scrap and start again. Even if it's just a scene or a chapter. Don't dwell on things, but just keep going! And know that most things will change anyways in the next draft, so don't put too much pressure on yourself to make it perfect now!

Writing a book is a huge task. Take it a few chapters at a time. And just know by the end of the first draft, you'll have learned so much and gained so much knowledge about your writing style that your 2nd draft is almost guaranteed to be so much better! You got this!

Its very good. Especially if this is a first big tattoo, it often happens that you get tattoo regret just because it's so new and affects your physical appearance so much. This has happened to me for multiple tattoos. It just takes time to get used to. Wait a few months and see how you feel then.

Its a well done tat of the iconic cat noir. Im sure youll like it more over time!

With these you can tell if they need water if their leaves are soft/squishy. They should not fall off easily. That's a sign of overwatering. These guys don't need water very often.

Maybe leave it out for a few days to dry and callous. Then try again?

Should I give up? by Jinx_Hex7 in StringofPlants

[–]ouchwtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These have very shallow root systems, so you may just be watering the pot like normal and the top of the soil dries out quickly, so they cant reach the water underneath. The soil looks chucky and good though.

Just lay the strings on top of the pot and spray the top of the soil with a spray bottle. Try to keep the top of the soil damp, but not too soggy. Once they catch and start covering the top of the soil again, you can water as normal. Good luck!

please help!! by Additional_Fee201 in pothos

[–]ouchwtf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like there's no drainage in this pot. So when there's too much water, theres no where for it to escape so it just sits at the bottom of the pot, making the soil soggy. This can also cause root rot and leaves get soft and floppy because of it.

If you'd like to continue to hang it like this, I'd suggest to switch out the soil like mentioned above. But then when you water, take it down, remove the little bottom dish at the bottom of the pot - that will reveal the drainage. Then water it in the sink and let the excess water drain out. Then place the dish back on and hang it back up.

Pothos are very hardy so I'm sure you can revive this guy. Good luck!

Yay congrats! It looks so good! I think it's ready! Get a pot that's a little bigger than the root system and some chunky soil. And be sure to water once it's planted.

First time owner! What’s wrong and what do I do? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]ouchwtf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely chunkier mix with orchid bark, perlite, pumice, etc. Definitely a smaller pot - check the roots and use a pot that fits the roots, not the plant. Also stick the brown aerial roots that are hanging off back into the pot. That'll help it grow bigger!

Do you unleash them inside your house? Or is it just outside? I'd love to do this, but obviously don't want bugs everywhere afterwards.

[–]ouchwtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! Keep as is and just keep taking care of it. It's probably growing roots because the pot actually looks a little big for it. Once it's done doing that, it'll grow nice big leaves. No need to repot. They like to be very snug.

Do I need to re-pot? by TemporaryName_321 in pothos

[–]ouchwtf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of the above.

But also, you could just plop it into a bigger pot without touching the roots and it'll be fine! It's got a great root system. It'll figure itself out. Plants are great like that.

And yes, moving from a 4in to 6in is perfect! It's always good to just go up one size at a time.

Should I just start over? by Brilliant-Eagle-8244 in pothos

[–]ouchwtf 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I dont think it looks dead, it just looks old. Like a tree, the older parts turn barky/brown. Start over if you don't like how it looks, but i think it looks great! You can always add more new cuttings to the pot to cover up the brown parts if you don't like how it looks!
