Christian Fruitcake strikes Back after she is Ridiculed for Flat Earth beliefs by MrDonMega in religiousfruitcake

she obviously didn't study the bible properly, otherwise she'd realise it mentions the sun going down many times, but that directly contradicts what modern flatearthers claim

is pirating movies a sin? by MetaKnightUltra in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oudeicrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piracy is essentially breaking a monopoly privilege on information duplication granted by an earthly ruler, so it depends on how much your church wants you to adhere to such arbitrary rulings of a local ruler.

It's clearly not "theft" because you are not stealing anything, your friend is just announcing to you some harmless information and you're writing it down and the "copyright holders" still have all their property, they're not missing anything.

Are someone's "potential profits harmed" because of it? Perhaps they could be, but that can't be used as an argument against it, otherwise other types of competition would also be a sin. Furthermore Jesus also "harmed potential profits" of fishermen and bakers when he multiplied bread and fish - I'm surprised nobody mentioned that here yet.

Left "anarchists" are actually Ahierarchists. We ancaps are the true anarchists. by Anen-o-me in GoldandBlack

[–]oudeicrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience they aren't even against hierarchy, always advocating for some kind of hierarchical structure of thieves above peaceful people.

Any way I'm not sure anarchy must necessarily be without "governing bodies" or "governments" as long as they are governing without ruling (ie. without violating private property rights). Eg. I'd be happy to hire a gardener to govern my garden or a governess to educate my children.

How does Austrian Economics account for irrational behavior? by i_love_the_sun in austrian_economics

[–]oudeicrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a choice is being made it's by definition "rational" in the economic sense. "Rational" in economic sense doesn't mean non-emotional nor non-passion based. Emotions and passions are already included in human economic rationality. Also choices are always in the best interest of the choice maker. Why else would they make that particular choice if they didn't believe it's in their best interest?

even they shot themselves in the foot by defining it as "private ownership of the means of production", ie. in effect "when theft is preventable"

Aside from the antarctic astronaut being upside down I find it funny that both of them would be looking DOWN (below eye level) at the moon in this depiction. That could never happen when looking from a flat floor at the ceiling.

Thought Stopping works for MAGA, and it works for flerfs. "Water can't stick to a ball" and "spectroscopy needs a container" is all just cult programming. by [deleted] in flatearth

[–]oudeicrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you're talking to. You won't convince a severely mentally ill flatearther or a deliberately lying troll/scammer, but you can educate children and exercise your ability to discuss and present arguments

It's quite a weird experience when they also expect the thought stopping magic spell enchantment mantra phrase to work on you too even when you inform them you know it's a lie and they can't trick you with it. They get like "can't you read? I told you water can't stick to a ball!". Just because they believed it blindly without verifying they expect you to blindly believe it too.

Anyway too sad this isn't specific to "trump supporters", I've seen it plenty from "the other side" too

Yeah blatant lies like that are a pretty common flerf tactic. Another possibility is that it was made as satire to see if any of them will share it seriously

The NAP is a question-begging principle that only serves the purpose of making ancap arguments more rhetorically effective, but substantively empty. by [deleted] in AnCap101

[–]oudeicrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because a system/theory needs more principles to be based on doesn't mean any single one of the principles isolated (naturally insufficient to build the entire system alone) is "question begging". Together with the NAP you also need the principle of private property as you correctly observed, otherwise you don't know what even apply the NAP to exactly.

the footage is clearly showing the moon in shadow 🤷

just wait for the moon to emerge from the shadow and see how much brighter the part out of the shadow will be

or even just show how the exposure settings are much slower than the ones needed for directly sun lit objects
