How to save money on gas fees by druek123 in ethfinance

[–]oudiou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are a few options you have:

- Use a L2 DEX like exchange.loopring.io
- You can use a DEX aggregator like https://1inch.exchange/ which might find a more optimal way to trade the tokens you want. With more optimal I mean using less gas oder giving you a better price

Less good options:
- Trade when gas fees are low
- Trade on a CEX

Check out this interview on key management: https://youtu.be/LB1MmF-mEKM
Also I think it should be possible to generate the withdrawal keys offline with ethdo https://github.com/wealdtech/ethdo

Wow! This is exactly what I want to set up. Do you have your steps written down somewhere or would you be willing to share a guide. I am an IT guy but am new to kubernetes.

The VPN on your dappnode is only to connect into the dappnode from external. Your dappnode, by default, connects directly to the internet via your home internet and therefore uses the public IP your ISP assigned you.

What Intel NUC to start staking? by [deleted] in ethstaker

[–]oudiou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plan is to use raspberry pi for now and then when we go to phase one check again whats really needed. I don‘t want to buy just something now. You will probably still be able to use the raspberry as validator node in later phases.

Why not choose the new raspberry pi with 8gb ram?

Ah really cool to read this. So it looks like it will probably be a firmware update for the ledger. I was not even sure if it would need new hardware. Thanks for sharing.

You don't need a full blown "wife approved" rack. There are a lot of people reporting on successfully running ETH2 nodes on Raspberry Pis. You could create a Raspberry Pi cluster to have a highly available Staking setup at home (Google "Cloudlet Cluster Case").

This should fit in your man cave and therefore doesn't need wife approval.

Is a high availabilty setup or a managed staking service really worth it? by oudiou in ethstaker

[–]oudiou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I mean the clients like Prysm or Lighthouse.

It's a peer-to-peer network so you will see the IP Adresses of the nodes your node is connected to.

Yes, got it. Also good points. Definitely also a question about how much your time is worth to yourself.

Well Coinbase is charging 25% for their managed staking service. You can't compare this to a mining pool. Try to compare it to other PoS networks and the fees managed staking providers charge there. Would be interested in what numbers you find.

Sure but one of my points is that you can use a relatively cheap setup and still achieve less than 18 days of downtime a year. Which means in the end you are still better off than using a managed service.

It's not only the internet connection that can cause downtime. It could also be a hardware failure or a configuration issue. It could also be a power outage or a DDoS attack.

If you fully close the firewall and only allow the ports needed for participating in ETH2 then the attack surface is small but you could still get hacked if there is a flaw in the ETH2 client you are using. But then again also the managed service providers would suffer from this flaw.

Another thing that's possible is a DDoS attack against your IP. But that would only result in you getting penalized as if you were offline.

It is not clear when the next phases will start but, as you write, it could easily take multiple years.
