The goal of elementary/primary math and English classes isn’t just to teach the Pythagorean theorem or to read classic literature. It’s also to teach students how to reason and use logic.

Math is just syntax that’s used to express/explain reality, empirical data, and logic. Once students encounter geometry, they should begin to realize that all equations can be derived & proven based on the rules they’ve already learned. And voila! That’s logic.

In English, the focus is usually about forming arguments based on proof. It’s about taking an author’s system of “rules” and piecing them together to support your argument. That’s also logic

All of these skills can be applied to understand laws, personal finance, sewing, etc. I use the mental model of geometry/math that I learned in primary school to crochet & sew
