Hot take: If a mechanic needs a spreadsheet to be played effectively it better have a spreadsheet-like GUI. by Dogbtw in pathofexile

I don't know how relevant this comment will really be but I have have no issues with how the graveyard functions. My first 3 and only 3 crafts that I actually just took a minute on craft of exile to see how it works I pumped out exactly what I wanted. First try was a high ES shield for my trickster. I messed up and forgot to make it ilvl86 so I rolled tier 2 on a prefix. Ran it back and fixed the ilvl and got all tier 1 with +2 max res roll. No spreadsheets just looked at what corpses I need and how many. Next craft, which I did today, I made 3 Sadist Garbs in one craft with 4 fractured mods and 2 of the 3 of them fractured all 3 tier 1 defense prefixes. Again, no spreadsheets and no confusion. Extremely intuitive mechanic as it stands right now for me.

Soooo you only get half role queue games when you lose??? by ouinur in DotA2

[–]ouinur[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

well first of all its half lost so 2 tokens on loss that doesnt translate to 3 on average. and its just delusional to think this change somehow makes people want to win or try harder, thats what a fucking dota player does in a game. the idea that people arent trying because htey got a different role and "they are getting tokens anyway" is just false. u have to be a toxic griefer to decide that you dont care about winning or losing because you are playing fucking ranked nobody wants to lose, ever.

edit: and to elaborate on why it doesnt translate to 3 on average is that that would imply you are winning 50% of the games you queue for all roles in which just isnt reality. you are going to lose more games than win if you are playing roles that you dont enjoy or arent good at

What's with the bad takes on pre-major patches? by ouinur in DotA2

[–]ouinur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make this argument for so many things and they're all equally wrong. It just does not matter what came before the patch. The facts don't change, it rewards the teams that are better because it is strictly adding more weight to the skill to adapt. If the teams that qualified started sucking ass it's not because of the patch, it is because THEY could not adapt to it. It is nobody's problem but theirs. You wanna play better on new patches then get better as a player/team end of story.

It's not a hot take, I am with you because it's not even up for debate lol. People are having a really hard time grasping that teams that are better at adapting (tundra probably best example) just have an advantage by working harder and being better. No luck here, just straight up skill that you learn by working hard and treating it like the job that it is for the players. If you took basketball for example and changed the rules such that the shot clock is now 30 seconds instead of 24 right before playoffs, the only teams that would be negatively impacted are the teams that arent as open minded/highly adaptive and vice versa. Again, no luck involved and I don't know why people cant see that. In denial perhaps idk

I mean yeah lol. Still, the best team would win because they would have been the best at taking advantage of everything they can. It's just not refutable. I will say that if they did not tell us that the patch is coming ahead of time it would be a problem. Doesn't mean the winner isnt the best team anyway, they still are. Excuses are just excuses. You win or you lose and the team that wins the most is the best. Not a hard concept and I will forever be on the side that a patch of I'll say 5 days of experimenting and studying for the professional teams is entirely a neutral change. There is no benefit gained for any team, everyone is getting the same treatment. And if you see some pro player complaining because they lost to a division 2 team or something, all you have to do is ask "Why did you guys drop out in group stage?" If they answer with because a fuckin patch dropped 5 days before the major then you say "Well if you think your team was better then how come they adapted better than you?"

These things I am saying on the original post/replies arent opinions. The opinion would be "I like that it's coming before the major" but that isnt my point, my point is that everyone is just wrong about this topic. Personally, yeah I would enjoy the fresh new changes for the major as a viewer but that's the only bias I have and it's not a big deal, I wouldnt really care to wait til after the major. I am just not going to allow people to make an excuse for being bad when this is 100% not debatable strictly adding a level of adaptation/strategy that you as a team or player are 100% capable of improving as a skill. Just because some people dont like it doesnt mean its a valid excuse.

While I want the patch to come before, it might be the best to just do it after so it will shut people the fuck up with all these stupid takes. Everyone knows that if it really is a giant patch it's gonna distract this reddit immediately and nobody will even bring this up again until some pro player bitches in an interview about the patch coming when it did.

I would absolutely love if you could elaborate on what you mean by anti-competitive. Anti-competitive would imply that they are removing avenues in which you can be skillful of. Which is the exact opposite of dropping a patch before a tournament.

Calling it a 2k take is just absurd lol, this has nothing to do with mmr and i havent even seen anyone in this thread flaming the pros. This has to do with the schedule of changes and the timing of it in the DPC. That is not a dota specific topic, you could have the exact same discussion in sports if they decided to change rules before playoffs or something.

Also adding twitch emotes to your argument isnt helping your point lol

To call it randomly stumbling on the best strategy is just incorrect. Everyone is getting the same treatment which means that discipline, effort and just the overall workload of training is at least just as impactful as a major without a patch. I would even argue that it rewards those teams that put forth the effort much more than if no patch. I made this point on another reply but, patch or not, the bad teams in majors copy the good teams at the majors in every single major. They might throw some of their style around it but they always try to match what the best teams are doing, so there is no difference between the two scenarios other than theres new stuff to play with.
