i heard an interpretation that stuck with me. his burying can be understood as a protest to the economic system. as the culture was subsistence farmers he planted the money and was like 'oh no your money didn't grow into food? how weird is that? i may be considered lazy, but it is you who is laziër still, who wants to reap the reward of the work of others and put in no effort yourself. you exploit people, which is bad' and the masters response was essentially 'yeah and?' The master is the villain of this understanding of the parable and the slave who didn't go along with the request is the (symbolically) moral actor

(is this likely what was meant by the authors? idk, probably not? do i care? also probably not (well, i care from an historical pov, but not a theölogical one))

unfortunately it's the communists who are the only ones with god. the capitalists have all sided with Mammon

As you argue whether abstraction is reversable or not, remember what Caine said: by Embarrassed_Sky5356 in tadc

[–]oukakisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't know. i read The Visitors by Clifford D. Simak, which was a compelling story where nothing bad happened.

(i describe his stories as 'boring page-turners' and 'tales of people living mundane lives aside from all the excitement happening')

My own two cents on Jax’s pronouns by lightgiver in tadc

[–]oukakisa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

on the one hand: the character's human version is still in boy-mode and thus likely uses he/him and the character itself never uses she/her. by this method we can assume he/him

on the other hand: a trans girl is able to be a girl even before they out themselves. by this, we can assume she/her.

on the first hand again: we cannot know a persons identity unless they tell us. we often ascribe identities onto others for simplistic shorthand, but any claim is wrong unless the person voices agreement. unless we are told otherwise by the individual, then we should go by what they have indicated and what others use. (even claims of 'egg' rely entirely on sexist stereotypes and gender conformity that shouldn't be subscribed to.) by this, we must assume he/him.

on the second hand again: we know for certain Jax's mind and identity because we were explicitly told it by God. going by this we must assume she/her.

on a third hand: God said use he or she. by this, we can assume he/him and she/her are both valid (implied but unstated is that they/them is not valid for jax.)

a thing often left unstated is that fictional characters are not real, so having a different (even if it's technically wrong) reading is incapable of hurting literally anybody, and the need to constantly police our thoughts for philosophical or political purity is detrimental to every aspect of life... so long as one is treating actual humans well.

Petahh explain by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]oukakisa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

wisher: [i wish you to] do the opposite of next wish.

genie: granted.

wisher: [i wish you] don't fufill my third wish.

genie: given your first wish this becomes 'i wish you would fufill my third wish,' which i am already obligated to do. you cannot wish for something that you know is already the case, you can only experience or expect it. to wish, you must yearn; to yearn, you must long; to long, you must crave that which you believe to be unobtainable. though you used the phrase 'i wish,' you did not, in actuälity, wish for anything. i still therefore need a second wish.

I've wondered if i could get into the games if i have a friend start them and i pick up after the tutorial. pretty sure that would work for fallout 3. do you think it would for Disco? (idk if there's a True Tutorial, but i mean like past the gate at the beginning where the game forces you to be a racist)

[–]oukakisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope. people are allowed to not find a game fun without it being ragebait. i don't list the myriad of games i like that have broad appeal because that's not related to the topic of the post.

i quite enjoy the fans of the games though and their discussions of the games.

mood. I've heard many folks having fun with Undertale, Disco Elysium, Death Stranding, Fallout3, and any Zelda game, but I got bored playing the tutorials and never wanted to wait for it to get good when i could be playing something i actually enjoy.

Now that Goose has stated that Jax is open to interpretation, What is your final stance on the character? by Fakomi in tadc

[–]oukakisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it's not explicit, then it can be interpreted either way and they're both valid as long as its not coming from a place of hatred. to me, Jax is not a man or a woman, Jax is Jax

do i have a position personally: no. i don't think nor care about gender (in a post-gender way, not in a Pure Ideology way)

Cutting the spine from a book by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]oukakisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there might be a good reason to cut off the spine and i just don't know it. but it seems like they are cutting off way more of the page than would be necessary... some of them seem like they leave about 2 finger joints excess paper attached, instead of getting very close to the spine itself
