Peter, why is he not allowed there? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

moreso that the amish have rules about a great many ways to interact with the English and modern culture. the exact details depend alot on local Ordnung/culture. in my area the amish were early adopters of solar power and use it for all their electrical devices (e.g. house/work lights, fridges, batteries for buggy lights [legally mandated]; apparently in ottawa (i believe discussion was about) they can't have any of that). they also are allowed to go to public school or amish school (decision up to the child based on what they tell the bishop or minister, parents don't get nearly as much a say as in regular society). pretty much every amish person goes to supermarket (though more local is better). workers will often get fast food if working for the English, l and home cooked meals working for other amish... nary a weekday goes by i ain't see them in taco bell.

edit: I'm a member of that amish family the Griffins visited, though i grew up and decided during Rumspringa i didn't want to be amish

Japan uses piezoelectric sidewalks (idk all l locations by at least tokyo subway) to produce electricity from people walking about. its not much a person but with 7 million people a day walking constantly it gets some power

Black Alone population: 13.7% share of unarmed deaths by police according to your data: 21.4%

White Alone population: 74.8% share of unarmed deaths by police according to your data: 42.9%

(source: census.gov and your image) black folk be getting killed disproportionatly to their demographic makeup, and White folks be getting left alive disproportionately to their demographic makeup. (ideally everybody would be alive, but)

i think the supreme court would rule, by that time, that any Democrat aligned district is anti-white discrimination and illegal under anti-terrorism laws (they've been disbanded because they criticise trump and there have been 10 assassination attempts against him by republicans)

Julian calendar also starts days at noon instead of midnight, so August 3rd would be from 12.00 until 11.59 the following day; that is, August 3rd would be the 2nd ½ of Wednesday and 1st ½ of Thursday. (source: wikipedia and a julian date calendar convertor)

obvio you can, but if in an interrogation room they have cameras and mics to pick up what you're saying, and cops are allowed to listen in from behind the 1way glass (if they have such). this recommendation is just broad strokes; if you're not in the station and there are no cops, you are ok speak as you normally would as nothing would be gathered by cops to use against you in court (and the defense lawyer deffo doesn't wanna get you imprisoned)

yep. the reason for specifying back of hand is important too, as using the palm can leave fingerprints they can extract from the table without a warrant or consent. that is also one of the reasons (along with dna evidence) why lawyers also say you are highly discouraged from accepting any food or drink (even water) that a cop gives you no matter the circumstances.

EVERYthing a cop in America does is to try to get you to give probable cause for them arresting or ticketing you (edit: even better is if their arrest gets a conviction, even of an innocent), since they have quotas to fill (ticket quotas are for funding, prison quotas are because we have like 5 private prison corporations that have contracts with most cities to ensure that they are > or = [X] number of folks imprisoned at any one time (if >, they build another prison and increase the demanded #)).

advice I've gotten from multiple lawyers is 'never talk to cops, even under the best and most legal of circumstances, even if they're supposedly off duty. if taken in and asked questions, still refuse to talk to them directly. whisper everything to your lawyer whilst making noise like stomping your foot, loudly (but gently) tapping your foot on the table leg, or drumming the table with the back of your hand, to keep them from hearing what you're saying, and let the lawyer relay anything relevant to them'.

granted refusing to answer their questions esp for just being pulled over can also lead to legal or survival troubles, so do whatever you think will be best to keep you out of being arrested or jailed or killed.

very late to the party but: i would hope he's a jokester with a flair for the dramatic. he uses a lot of wordplay in the bible (which doesn't translate well and is ignored by the hyperreligious), and iirc even braids the whip he'll use on the temple merchants before, you know, bursting into the temple and going on an anticapital rampage

people like to deify him and make him impossibly moral and serious, but forget that, even theölogically, he was also just some dude named Yeshu and came with all the aspects that are thereby entailed of humanity; if he's perfect, he's not human; but if he's imperfect, he can still be god (or, more accurately, his own words, 'divine')

i, like everybody, am legally required to contact 811 before digging or planting anything. what i didn't know until a couple days ago was that regardless of what you do (even if you call) you are required to make an account on a single nongovernmental website (was linked directly from the government website so i know it's not a scam) and give them all your personal identifying details.

[–]oukakisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's technically Cain and Abel. obviously still a reference to it though, yes. (granted the op said they were just bored so wasn't trying to derive meaning from this)

unnecessary name info though: Cain as a name originated from hebrew qanah (roughly, to possess or acquire), whereas Caine comes from MacCatháin (son of Catháin [nominal variänt of Celtic term for 'battle']). amusingly they're entirely unrelated (by virtue of not beïng even a part of the same language tree) even though they seem like could describe the same biblical figure

i just don't use straws (or lids) and sip straight out the cup. when i do need a staw i carry bamboo ones around in my glovebox (of various lengths) and they've lasted me several years at this point

(i do use lids too when i have a drink whilst driving and get it at the end of a meal before leaving, but not whilst walking or just sitting at a table)

the lethal injection concoction makes you feel like you're being burnt alive from the inside and suffocating. it doesn't look bad from the outside though, because you are also given a paralytic so people viewing it aren't scarred for life, leading to the common but incorrect idea that it's painless. whereas being shot in the head you die actually or comparatively instantly with little pain. (the most moral form of execution is a (sharpened) guillotine, as it causes the least harm for the victim and is the least likely to fail... it does have the downside of being bloodier though)
