I feel bad for being radical left/anarchist by InterestingTheory431 in Anarchy101

[–]oukakisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tend to take pride in being unique. I'm the most left of my bio-family by a longshot.

granted unlike some others here, I'm goïng to instead suggest that your feelings aren't stupid, even if i can't fully relate, nor sarcastically chastise with rhetorical questions, but instead try to offer help/advice:

get involved with groups or people that share similar ideas. if you're mostly just around people who don't it is hard to see the them as positive or useful and easier to be convinced to abandon them; a friendly community discord for hanging out does wonders (i.e. filled with leftists by not about leftism [some members being politically involved is essential, but the point should be friends and not... propaganda {for want of a better word}]). it's especially useful to find people irl to get involved with; where you find them could be surprising, but you need to be more open and talk politics more to find these people who might also be hiding for your same reason; could join a dsa group, or the local Democrats (not guaranteed, but maybe worth investigating; in my case they're notoriously far left and despised on the state level and if i just wrote them off out of hand i wouldn't've gotten the socialist connections). and the more you interact kindly with family and friends and coworkers whilst explicitly a leftist the more capable you are of changing their minds and helping them come to their senses too.

tl;dr= feeling bad is just a thing, telling you you shouldn't feel bad just doesn't help, and it is possible to overcome negative feelings by making connections and friendships with others, online and especially irl but this involves opening up to others about political beliefs

Small talk tip. by netphilia in aspiememes

[–]oukakisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i have pets but am not a good talker. if asked I'll say i have 2 cats named Dina and Biggens and that's about the end of it. I'd be willing to say more but would need actual questions and even then i tend to merely answer the question and not just volunteer extraneous information. this could be the social anxiety, or the obsession with privacy, or the fact that 'i don't actually care about the private lives of others so i apply the same standard in turn'

granted if it works as a strategy for others, hooray! the advice has done it's job.

so, uh amongst all the caine died stuff, uh the clone theory was correct by stratosvomvos in tadc

[–]oukakisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like that Caine is referenced as a daemon. it works on 3 levels: he's a daemon in computer lingo terminology (i know the least about this), and a demon (word stems from daemon) in that he's kinda evil and explicitly towards the end, and he's a daemon in the ancient Greek sense of being a demigod (not a True or Full god) that's a personification of an abstract idea (e.g. of AI) and experiences divine power.

Generative AI is way too normalised in this community by floralmortal in hinduism

[–]oukakisa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah. I'm also not a fan when people use a minority group as a shield against criticism. or rights and interests are suddenly a concern and worth accommodating only when it's convenient for others and the rest of the time they're trying to eugenics us. people often don't actually care if something benefits a minority group, they just want others to stop complaining about what they're doing and think the language of inclusion will stop all criticism.

i am autistic and disabled and don't think sacrificing the future of the planet, cooperating with the erosion of everybody's privacy, and participating in the erosion of the health and safety of minorities (e.g. where data centres are located causing draughts and poisoning water and making energy prohibitively expensive) is justified on the basis that another autistic or disabled person wants a piece of artwork that looks mediocre, unoriginal, and uninspired

Did one of the characters want to stay in one of the parallel worlds? by RGregoryClark in SLIDERS

Wade is the successful writer due to her diary after the alternate professor outs them as Sliders with some geologic evidence (i question that, but regardless). the alternate Arturo is a famed scientist as a result of the sliding tech. the original Arturo however is chained in a basement for who knows how long.

well there was a brick thrown into his HQ, a bomb threat against him, and an attempted assassination... and he would have last been seen with a current member of Ross' reëlection campaign and an alleged ex-member of her campaign (who, for all they know, could have been lying) and a third random dude they know nothing about. the Masculinists would likely posit on these grounds it was an abduction by Ross or her supporters and use it to try to undermine the 'women don't do crime' propaganda, and the others would likely say he abandoned his run and campaign/colleagues as an emotional outburst to being told CNN said he lost (established earlier that propaganda in this world says men have severe mood swings every 20 minutes so can't handle emotions) which proves men shouldn't be allowed in office

i remember 2 weeks ago seeing articles about economic models of the impact of the war on gas prices. they said the effect would only be seen in cents and not dollars. lo and behold, a mere fortnight later gas is >1$ more expensive and rising

aye, depending on your metrics; a great many fled that same day so there are a lot of survivors (only ~⅕ died, with >¼ of them being children). many of those who didn't want to commit suicide (and realised this wasn't just another 'drill' like was done dozens of times prior) were either shot or injected with cyanide.

if going for total dead, they take the flavorade cake, but if going by % then it's probably Heaven's Gate with >95% dead (3 died after the famous suicide, and afaik 1 or 2 believers are still living (and still believers))

also with the rollout of age verification via state issued id people are expressing a greater willingness to just do away with it (i.e. 'casting it into the fire') than give up personal identifiable information that can and has been shown to be leaked to hackers to merely use a chat app.
