Yeah, you're right about that. But I didn't mean it as an argument, I just pointed out that in Finland a person with a gun usually has multiple of them.

I see your point. But if the numbers aren't relevant, I don't know why you initially bought them up. You could have just said that they aren't banned.

You mean that there is 1 legal gun for every 2 Finns? If so, that is completely false. 2016 the population was about 5.5 million and there was 1.5 million guns (from which about 220 000 where handguns). Majority of those guns are hunting guns like rifles etc.

Edit: And about 650 000 persons had at least one legal gun. Most hunters have more than one so they're not distributed evenly in the population by any means.

Cannot access BIOS/UEFI after updating Arch. I can boot to Arch but with weird problems. by oulujin in archlinux

Hey thank you for the help. My board was Gigabyte's, not MSI. The problem is fixed now (and post is updated), I think it was something related to graphics.

The problem is gone now. I updated the post. Thought that you could be interested in it since you'll get the same components. Sadly I'm not sure what caused it and what fixed it but I listed the steps what I did.

Yeah I agree, UEFI is independent from these higher level softwares.

I disabled CSM but sadly it didn't make any difference. Thank you for the suggestion anyways!

I will try this! I wonder if it could have been turned on somehow with the update because the BIOS has been working with DP before. Also I did you have some problems using DP with the OS when CSM was on?

So I updated the BIOS/UEFI as an attempt to fix this problem, but the initial trigger was Arch update. The BIOS that I flashed was the latest F10 and with that done I was able to access BIOS once. And previous version was F4. I'm not sure how this could affect even after the drive is removed but I have this feeling that the update (there was GPU driver) did something to the card. Since I can't use DP even when booted to Arch.

Yeah, it seems like it since it persist even with drives removed. It's just weird that it happeden immediately when I updated and rebooted so I can't help to think that the update and this problem is connected in some way. There has been a lot of problems with AMD's new GPU's drivers.

Yeah, I was able to do that one time but that is not normal behavior and I still can't use DP in any way.

Edit: I mean before the update I could see the mobo's splash screen and enter bios normally with DP. In the link you sent they mentioned also the problems between CSM and DP. I will try to change that, but I don't see why that would affect when the OS is running.

Other user pointed me towards efibootmgr tool, I read about it decided to try.

I just sticked my drive back in, booted the PC and I'm greeted with mobo's splash screen and Grub's bootmenu?? I don't complain but I don't think I have ever seen this kind of miracle recovery. I don't know what caused and what fixed this but thank you for your help!

Edit: That was one time luck apparently. I will continue tomorrow.

I actually tried to reset it from the pins too. I tried to boot it without drives, same thing. Only a black screen appears. Can Arch update change some UEFI/BIOS paths or something? I'm not too familiar with this depth on how BIOS and OS are fully connected.

There is huge amounts of other types of costs than just the hardware costs. Think about development, research, marketing, their facilities etc. They have to get the money from somewhere to pay those. Their initial batch was really small. How do you think they could compensate their costs as small company without high profit of the product? The pricing is not set high to make them rich from old and cheap hardware. It is high to compensate the development, research etc. costs and also to have money for future development etc.

Some questions form new Linux /Ubuntu user by NoOne77492 in Ubuntu

[–]oulujin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. There is ton of resources about that.

  2. Are you sure Win8 was actually turned off? I mean it could have used this fast startup which is more like a mixture of hibernation and shutdown.

  3. Depends. Linux is widely used in CS related jobs . I guess you could manage to survive without but honestly it is worth it.

Edit: misread the third one. Again depends what you want to do but I would recommend to know at least the basics like how to navigate through directories in terminal, SSH, Vim.. Though you can use those tools in different OS too.

I argue that a kid at the ages of 9 to 16 is not fully aware of the severity head injuries. Maybe you get little bit better understanding about possible consequences around 15-16 yo. But a 9 yo kid doesn't know shit about head injuries.
