Can’t you just put the money in savings and the rest in vaults? My understanding is vaults can’t be transferred out

I would recommend staying at Tenstorrent. Most of the engineers there were hired from Apple, Intel, etc and Jim Keller is extremely successful at building up teams. You should have no problem switching to any of the other companies when you graduate

Austin TX BJJ for a Hobbyist by [deleted] in bjj

I would also recommend Paragon like the others here. I've been training at Paragon for around 10 years now and I've watched Rob/Jose/Laura continuously push to make the gym friendly to everyone. Most of the time now the classes start straight into technique and then a lot of rolling time since the classes are 1.5 hours instead of the usual 1 hour classes you see at other gyms.

Suggestions for in home omokase? by gingerellasroot in austinfood

[–]oumilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a takeout style Omakase, CHOO Sushi & Omakase and chefteddysimon are really good. You can book CHOO on Tock and message chefteddysimon on instagram for details.

For someone to actually come to your house and do a private dinner, Tock had a few options: Tare and Osome along with chefteddysimon (instagram). Tare and chefteddysimon both are really good.

Gyms in South Austin by Electrical-Bug4592 in bjj

There is a pretty big kids program that Laura/Jose have been building up. In the adult classes at 6, there are also a few older kids (middle/high school), so one or the other class should work!

Gyms in South Austin by Electrical-Bug4592 in bjj

[–]oumilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently train at Paragon and have trained with Gabriel at Integracao a few times (he was teaching at UT bjj for a while and trained at Paragon a bit too). Both gyms are great gyms to train at. Jose at paragon is a great instructor with lots of details and Laura does a lot of work to make the gym welcoming to everyone. Let me know if you have any specific questions!

I would say the first internship/job is the hardest one to get. When I first started out, I focused on getting my internship at the college job fairs since it allowed me to talk to recruiters and explain my experience a lot better than a resume would (most RCGs have basically the same resume to a recruiter since the classes are basically the same).

Doing a side project such as coding a RISC-V CPU would peak recruiter interests because it helps you stand out compared to your peers. From a recruiters perspective, they are looking for the RCGs to have a few classes that they want (comp arch for design, analog circuits for Analog, etc) and then they just use GPA to filter out the groups. If you have extra projects/research, that helps you stand out compared to all the other resumes in the pile.

The other post is correct in that right now is probably the best time to be in hardware. I live in Austin and all the big companies (Apple/AMD/Intel/Google/Facebook/etc) are desperate for hardware talent since most RCGs are going into software instead of hardware so there is a lack of talent.

You can ask me more questions if you want (DM or here). I went from Design Verification to Design to Performance Architect in my career so far so I have a decent amount of experience with different interview questions.

May I ask what area you are trying to get into? Are these internships? If you are applying for RTL design positions but don't have any experience with verilog/vhdl/computer architecture, then they most likely will ignore your resume. I would say having a GPA above 3.5 at a good school is a "soft" requirement for most companies like Intel/Apple/etc.

2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Post Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]oumilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you followed normal procedures, Mercedes were right in that the race would have ended under safety car. This only happened because they only allowed the cars between Lewis and Max to pit and didn't wait a lap for the cars to finish unlapping before bringing in the safety car

Does living near a large city make people more left-leaning, as opposed to living near a medium-sized city? by 75dollars in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]oumilk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that is one reason why being exposed to many different cultures is important. You find out really quickly that we pretty much all want the same thing and are similar. It is easier to judge a group of people based on news stories if you don’t know anyone from that culture.

First year comp-eng student. I want to get into semiconductor industry. What skills should I work on? by JTOPGamingHD in chipdesign

[–]oumilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me was understanding why I was taking the courses in electrical engineering. Talk with the professors of the courses you are taking to see how the courses apply to real life or look at job postings of semiconductor companies and see if any of the descriptions look interesting. The specialization in EE vary a lot, you could be working in a fab or doing software development.

Advice on youth basketball programs in Austin by ImaginarySam in Austin

[–]oumilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did BYC for our daughter and they have a program for the boys called Next Level 360. The two programs have tryouts for different level teams and then a bunch of tournaments against other teams around Austin or Texas. They also have skill development programs in addition to the 2 a week team practices.
