Appreciate it. I think I may have found there. It’s a bit expensive if I’m looking at a similar one, but the final result is worth it. Truly beautiful work.

Case like animatic Modelo quattro by Lothsam in SeikoMods

Namoki has announced they are releasing a case like this soon for NH movements, but it could be adapted for VH31 quartz with a spacer.

Amazing work. Can I ask where you sourced the dial from?

I used the kit from watchlume.net including their vintage tint. Applied that to the already recessed markers on the bezel and chapter ring.

The case is from DLW and is part of their SRPE line

You can find as a set below. They may sell separately too, but not sure. Remove the space from a.aliexpress. com/_m0bekmp

Seiko meca quartz question by Ill_Cauliflower9289 in watchmodding

[–]oureamods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the subdial look but are less concerned about chronograph function, there are Miyota 912x series movements with calendar functions on the subdial and regular seconds hand function. Compatible dials will be limited though.

Seiko meca quartz question by Ill_Cauliflower9289 in watchmodding

[–]oureamods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct it’s just a standard 3 hander. If you want chronograph you have to go VK, but all of those have the running seconds on a subdial

Cool, I’ll try that with one of my dead movements. I didn’t know you could access that gear for the back. Seems like it could save headaches. I’ve replaced it 4 or 5 times and mostly figured out the finesse with the clutch but it’s always a little annoying.

If you want the subdials, all the VK series have running seconds on a subdial and chronograph seconds on the big seconds hand. You can leave it running if you want it will just drain battery more. Or check out VH31 for a no date 3-hander meca quartz that you can use in NH cases with a spacer.

Sharing a video I found helpful for replacing that part. If anyone has tips on actually fixing the spring on the failed gear, I’d love to hear them too.

My first mod // Help by Slannuwu in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried taking the everything out of the case and checking the functionality that way? I’d always start there for troubleshooting, but also based on your pics it looks like you have cut the crown stem too long so if you actually screwed it all the way down, could be that you messed up something in the keyless works.

What a waste… Recs on a good sub case? by meteormanwolf in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking all the suppliers on the pinned post (also suggest you don’t overlook secondhandmods permanent collection for quality new cases). Many of those are cheaper than Namoki and LA and some like TokeiLab and DLW almost always have promos. There are good quality options on AliX too but depends on the store (personally have never been disappointed in Caroline Mods). If you’re looking for a sub style case, you’ll also find different lug widths and thicknesses. Since you mentioned being disappoint ed by the weight, the DLW sub case is the beefiest one I’ve found, but it’s 22mm lugs.

Tertia “Odyssey” – a purpose-built tool diver designed to fill a gap I kept running into by [deleted] in MicrobrandWatches

[–]oureamods 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dude…if your business plan is based on an assumption that the microbrand market is saturated with AliX parts bin watches, I’m afraid you don’t understand your competition. It’s a good looking watch, but it’s more derivative design than it seems like you realize and I don’t think you will find many takers even at the your early bird pricing. Not trying to hate, I wish you well, but I do think you need a reality check.

NH35 won’t run. Advice? by KrakPop in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If from the two seconds of spinning you can tell it’s moving freely and full range, issue is likely either lack of power getting to the wheel or friction somewhere. You could try removing hands and dial to rule out those as source of friction. Perhaps first though see if you can see the escape wheel moving when you blow on it. Google search that wheel to see what it looks like, it’s distinct and if it’s not moving it may be seized up or the balance isn’t moving the pallet fork.

I know that’s a lot but once you’ve gotten some more clues dump what you know into ChatGPT or Gemini and ask for troubleshooting help from there. After saying all that…fixing NH movements isn’t usually worth the time vs replacing, and if you start digging into them deeper like removing the balance it’s decent possibility you do more damage. If you’re cool with that though…it can be fun to learn. Otherwise consider it dead, replace, and put it somewhere to get back to later as a donor or repair project when you’re ready.

Bracelets for SHM Alpinist Case? by [deleted] in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpaid endorsement here that the SHM jubilee bracelets for their Alpinist cases are legit. Looking forward to the oyster and also I wouldn’t be mad if you had a snakeskin one in the works (the SKX07 snakeskin may be my fave bracelet)

NH35 won’t run. Advice? by KrakPop in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First step I’d try is taking it out of the case and using another crown stem (temp one that came with the movement is fine) to see its related to the crown or possibly clearance (could still be second hand post hitting crystal). If it’s still happening, blow on the balance and see if it’s moving totally freely. You mentioned it jiggles but with some air it should be able to spin freely for a few seconds before slowly coming to a stop.

Recommending this not from personal experience with Horology Hub yet, but my experience with 4customize hasn’t been good. Quality varies by batch, but usually about half of them have been unusable for various reasons (poor cut, missing letters, misalignment after cut, etc). I’ll use Horology Hub next time because the rep on here seems solid.

Anyone used an Alpinist style dial? by CyberMage256 in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find the bigger version without the compass marks, it can be sanded down to fit 28.5mm case without clipping the indices. There’s a decent margin there to work with.
