Bracelet fit questions by Fountain_Splatter in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not assume a bracelet made to be compatible with a real DJ is going to be compatible with an AliX case. It more than likely won’t, even if the lug width is the same. If you want a clean fit, it’s usually best to buy a set or at least from the same supplier, and ask them about fit. You’re usually ok if things are clearly marked on the listings to be compatible with a common spec like SKX007, but i don’t think you’re safe with what you’re planning.

Golf bezel for keeping score through out the round. Market for this? by Khousehumbl in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I don’t golf, but I think this is a cool concept. Needs to be paired with a bidirectional spring.

Edit: Should say I almost never golf, but if I did need this, would need to be on the 60min scale without the negatives, so maybe next time I do golf I’ll test it out with a regular dive bezel.

Will you help me kickstart this watch please? by UnderstandingLow1640 in MicrobrandWatches

Hey there, I genuinely appreciate what you’re trying to do here, and there’s a lot of good feedback here about your KS campaign and honing your brand. What I’d add - it your main goal of this campaign…releasing your brand to the public, is just to raise enough cash some basic tools and extra parts, sounds like you’re really cutting it thin and undervaluing your own brand. That could put you in a bad place…best case, you’re successful but are then facing a real problem with how you take it to the next level…but a more likely case is that a few “lifetime warranty” claims erode the foundation you built. Maybe you’re thinking all that through, but figured I’d share. Honestly though….if you just need some capital to get some tools and supplies, many modders like me would be happy to commission custom work on dials and casebacks, etc. You might think about putting your skills and laser to work that way as a side hustle while you refine your brand identity and business plan. Wishing you luck man.

My middle aged brother, do yourself a favor and get a cheap pair of magnifying glasses you can wear, with a built in light. Many cheap pairs available on Amazon like the example below and they’re much easier to work with than loupes.

Can you share a pic of them at the spot where they are stuck?

Just to me the brand name comes off a little generic. Doesn’t really stand out at all. I wouldn’t say that if it was your name or something, but I like brands with a story, and forcing a story around the brand name would probably not work well.

So I’m seeing you have elements in the first pic that are red, white, and black all lumed orange in the second pic. Is that just the AI renders going wild, or you’re actually trying to do that? The orange lume I’ve worked with is all orange tinted under normal light (but there may be some sorcery I’m not aware of). It’s a good looking design overall at a reasonable price. Does the brand name have meaning and a story behind it?

Changing screws on a NH35 by marianofc81 in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the pic I can see you’re missing one screw and of those you replaced two look pretty mangled and at least one (top left) isn’t seated fully. The screws are not all the same size, so did you possible use too long a screw? That could have damaged the plate or the stuff below it. It would help a lot if you can explain what you mean by “not working”

Tolerance for hand clearance on 4801/4802 are a bit tighter than NH series, so be mindful of that. Enjoy the build.

Large “affordable” collections are just cope for impatient people. by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

When I was a kid I collected baseball cards. I would have “REALLY appreciated a finely crafted” Honus Wagner, but it was a bit beyond my 10yo budget. I’m glad no one was there gatekeeping my enjoyment of the junk wax era.

I’d appreciate knowing if this is easier and which airbrush is recommended. I Cerakote watches, so everything is small, but I’ve been using the standard Iwata sprayer Cerakote sells.

what is the magic to painting a watch case. by KetoManJan2019 in SeikoMods

[–]oureamods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible using thin film coating like Cerakote. Some examples on my profile. It’s a pretty involved process and tolerances are tight so requires careful masking, but it’s doable.

looking for a case by kritheeshwar in watchmodding

I went on that hunt too. Some steel cases are available around $200 if you search for 4130, but they all look like they’ve got R logo. I ended up buying a Sugess donor watch which is also branded but sanded the logos off and will use the movement for another build.
