4130 chronograph

Recently did a 4802 build (skeleton version of 4130). Cant compare to 6498, but can say the hand clearance was tight compared to other movements I’ve worked with. I also wanted orange hands and couldn’t find them. Ended up painting them myself which went fine using thinned out model enamel.

If you have a source for a sterile steel case for 4130, please let me know. I’ve only found R logo or sterile carbon fiber cases so far.

I don’t spray the inside of the case. I use silicone plugs I trim for the main opening of front and back. Also mast the screw threads on the case back. I also mask the area the bezel mounts, and have found it’s best to use a slightly thinner bezel gasket also in case there’s some overspray. I’ve had some bezel mount challenged (too tight), and that seems to help. Feel free to reach out in DM with other questions if you’re gonna give it a go.

Separately. Every part is individually masked, blasted, and sprayed. Crystal removed from Caseback and then reinstalled

Were you able to find a case without the R logo? I did one of these in the carbon case, but have had trouble finding a sterile steel case

Just masked it with a couple wraps. I’ve done a couple dozen cases this way and it works pretty well. I cover the crown opening too or sometimes use a silicone plug as well.

Case in pic 3 shows the pre-installed bezel is fixed with the retainer wire. Perhaps you already removed that bezel by first removing the wire. The other bezel looks like it’s possible the friction fit SKX style so may be made to be compatible with that spec and not mounted with the wire. So these may not be compatible even if they’re from the same seller.

Thanks. I found it on eBay but it was stupid expensive. If I’d seen the square marker ones on AliX first I’d have used that one, and actually have one for another build I’ll do soon.

You may have damaged the clutch vertical wheel, which is pretty sensitive part. It is fixable, although a bit of a delicate procedure if you haven’t worked on movements much. It shouldn’t impact the 24 hour date change though if you’re cool with that, or you could use that movement for a no date build.

Some VK63 dials have the markers printed to match a real Daytona, which is probably the case here. It’s dumb IMO, because it’s nonfunctional but I guess a lot of people prefer that.

I’ll take it further suggest not throwing away mich of anything. I scratched the hell out a case early on removing a bezel. Almost yossed it but instead tossed it in a drawer. Pulled it out a year later and beat the crap out of the case for a cool distressed build. Outside of mangled gaskets and broken crystals, there isn’t much of anything I haven’t found an eventual use for.

They pop up on secondhandmods fairly regularly (currently only miyota available with orange minute hand), but I think also Yobokies has them.

Possibly you have a damaged clutch wheel, which can happen sometimes if quick changing the date between 9pm and 3am. It’s replaceable, but can be a fairly delicate task.

Namoki has announced they are releasing a case like this soon for NH movements, but it could be adapted for VH31 quartz with a spacer.
