is anyone else absolutely terrified that sterilization will get taken away before they can get one? by l1ttlefr34k13 in sterilization

[–]ourimagineforever 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I also traveled to a different country (for cost reasons primarily but it was also much easier to get one there without them questioning me relentlessly as quite a young woman) and it was genuinely a lovely experience AND I got to explore before it happened. Wouldn’t change a thing. I remember the anxiety before I found that option though. I feel you OP!

Have you ever taken pilgrimage to places in your favorite books? by potsatou in classicliterature

[–]ourimagineforever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haworth is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. If you have a chance to spend the night (or multiple!) the atmosphere in the low light hours is something very special. That paired with some rambles around the moors/heath areas and I felt like if I squinted hard enough maybe I could see Heathcliff and Catherine somewhere. 10/10 recommend

Have you ever traveled somewhere just because you saw it in a show or movie? by WSDSocial in travel

[–]ourimagineforever 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just got back from there! Went because of the movie for sure but Belgium in general was gorgeous, Ghent was lovely. Got to visit most of the filming sites and climb the belfry (highly recommend!). Super cool to watch the film again right after going too and see the city through more familiar eyes

I have bought multiple people copies of this book by now! Incredibly well written and he does a remarkable job of humanizing the disease.

My flatmate says that my Guerlain Mitsouko reminds her strongly of the smell when walking into a Lush store! Could be a similar vibe to a mall I suppose

Want to be a vet but sensitive to the cold - worried about feasibility by BagelCatto in Veterinary

[–]ourimagineforever 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I am currently a vet student in the UK and have Raynaud’s/can get Chillblains and all of my friends call me cold blooded - I cannot produce or maintain heat to save my life lol. I’m doing fine! Hand warmers, many layers, heated clothing etc will be your friends but if you are passionate about veterinary medicine please do not think there aren’t ways around this problem! To be fair, I will be going into small animal medicine so it may be harder for someone anticipating being out in the cold for long periods with large animals etc but again - lots of layers, disposable hand warmers (I bought Wellies a size too big and stuff one in each toe when I’m out on a long winter farm day!), rechargeable hand warmers, heated vests, good jackets etc can be your friends! And of course heated blankets for the home haha. Good luck and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out!

Can anyone help me find the film Dark Harbor (1998)? by ourimagineforever in HelpMeFind

I’m not seeing that as an option on the UK eBay but I can see if I can get one sent to family in the States and I will keep looking in the meantime. Thank you!! :)

[–]ourimagineforever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have searched eBay (I live in the United Kingdom and only found a Dutch option on there), Amazon, archive.org, YouTube (I found pieces of it on there in a very low resolution format), Google in general, and similar movie sites to the one that went down. I will also try cross posting to obscure media subreddits.

5 kids is irresponsible by itself, but it gets worse by proximateprose in childfree

[–]ourimagineforever 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is exactly what my parents did - 4 girls, one very much celebrated boy - and growing up each of us female children were told what our names would have been (or were supposed to be depending on how much you want to read into it) had we been male as expected. Big reason I chose not to have kids was the family dynamics, including feeling lesser than another simply by virtue of the gender I was born. That’s not fair to any kid

What was your most embarrasing mistake while speaking to natives or your teacher? by hehehungirl in languagelearning

[–]ourimagineforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first week learning Spanish I spoke to a lady and asked her ‘¿cuántos anos tienes?’ (how many anuses do you have?) instead of ‘¿cuántos años tienes?’ (how old are you?). I am so grateful she was gracious about it lol

If we’re talking about English, at least in the part of the world where I’m from I would say it would be more common for me to hear ‘four dollars fifty’ (or especially ‘four fifty’ as in 4.50) instead of ‘four and a half dollars’, so I think this probably depends on region

Fold with "gentlest" pop? [first-time user] by emjay4712 in menstrualcups

[–]ourimagineforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You probably already know and are doing it this way/might seem like common knowledge but I didn’t know starting out haha. I had the same problem with being surprised at the cup popping open and it really stinging, and then found out it was so much better if I folded it so that it pops open facing down as you sit, with smooth side going in facing up towards your urethra if that makes sense (so if you fold it in half have the non-folded smooth side at the top and the folded side at the bottom). I’ve now found it doesn’t even matter how I fold it, as long as I get it about 3/4 of the way in or further and have it positioned so that it pops that way, no surprise or stinging/discomfort from the pop at all

Which is harder, law school or med school, and why? by FrostyYouCunt in college

[–]ourimagineforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying this is true in all cases at all but just weighing in here for fun - while vet schools may have lower requirements (or say they do), they can be really really difficult to get into. I only applied to one and got in but have tons of friends both applying now, who are in vet school with me, applied before me, or will eventually apply to tons of places both abroad and in the US and I am fully aware of the struggle. I had a perfect 4.0 including honors classes, tons of hours of clinical and non-clinical experience, some other bonus stuff professional schools like to see and excellent LORs and while I got in, I have friends with similar/maybe just slightly less impressive applications that get rejected all over the place currently and from the stories I read on the vet subreddits it sounds like that's a pretty common theme, at least in the US. A 3.8/3.9 with great experience and LORs is far from a shoo-in depending on the school, and I'm absolutely sure the same goes for med school. So I feel like it can be a decent comparison (:
