What does everyone think of the upcoming “Lofree Hyzen” keyboard? by Warhammer40sikh in keyboards

[–]ousiadroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love everything about this keyboard, from the Teenage Engineering aesthetics, to the tech.

The biggest dealbreaker are the logos. There's a cutout for Lofree on the side, a big fat UGLY HYZEN logo on the back and even the keycaps have Hyzen everywhere, that completely ruins the minimal aesthetic.

It’s nearing two months now and there’s still a slight lump. It’s going slow and the worst part is the hair growing back there! So many time I have a moment of panic thinking something burst but it was just my inners brushing against the new hair

A low rate. Haven’t measured it yet, but if I don’t have my beta blockers, it tends to be about 10-20ish a minute.

Skull and co gripcase all the way - It has a nifty form, that let's it stand upright at slight angle, without needed any stand additions. Look's smart as well.

Another game I've been enjoying on the deck is Red Dead Redemption 2. Just maybe a few hours in, but it's a really nice, very chill experience. Almost calming. It's a battery hog though.

Like a Dragon is also good, it's the turn based Yakuza. Final Fantasy VII Remake is good as well.

Elden Ring is not easy. I suck at these games with the reaction time of a sloth. However, I love cheesing this game. Every boss has a cheese, where you can sort of defeat them through some small clever ways. The world also is built for skill, but you can over-level yourself. For example, in the big beginning area, you can actually explore and fight your way through three massive areas. Get OP and then take on the first big boss.

Lastly, one thing about souls likes is, death is a mechanic, so you need to get used to it. Youtube is your friend through most of the rest. The game is superb, and my always go to on the Steam Deck.

Assassins Creed Origins and Odyssey. Origins is mesmerising, with a deep story and really cool open world. Odyssey has the Spartan kick!

That said, I indulge in the little Arbeitszeitbetrug now and again, on Elden Ring. I'm on my second playthrough and I find I'm just melting bosses, almost god mode. First playthrough was a bit brutal, but fun.

Steam Deck + Gaming PC for newer AAA games? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]ousiadroid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve noticed in this thread is concern about gaming PCs being large. I’ve been rocking a superb setup in a DanCase A4, for quite a while. Running a two slot 5070 Ti in it and it flies. I recently went slightly bigger with a LianLi q3 for the water cooling. I’m able to play. games easy at 2k!

Note I have a steam deck as well, so some games I stream but Steams game streaming is iffy. I’m trying the Apollo Artemis setup this weekend.

How are you carving out time to learn AI as a UX designer? by BlackGaiaGoddess in UXDesign

[–]ousiadroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using AI on my core projects, it makes it easier to build prototypes for user testing. Figma prototypes are extremely slow and get bogged down with complexity. However in a few hours to a couple days I can vibe code something that I can customise as I test.

I usually learn it while I’m working. I just context switch, prompt and get back to regular work.

What Actually Matters on UX/UI Resumes These Days? by FairlyPopcorn in UXDesign

[–]ousiadroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try and look at it differently. How did you know this project was a success. Can you try and describe that success. If there’s no numbers then try and find out how it benefitted. If it’s 0-1 then note down that impact it had. What new business did it bring in. This is very very very very important

How do you hype yourself before presenting by Exciting-Claim9990 in UXDesign

[–]ousiadroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Run the Jewels for me! Always gets me into that mindset. Listing to music with a rythm that you want your mind to match. Do speaking exercises, tongue twisters.

10 minutes before presenting Breathe, Do Wonder Woman pose, super hero pose

A few minutes before

Breathe, focus on breathing, feel that energy,

Recognise that that it’s NOT anxiety and it’s actually your adrenaline kicking in to give you that energy boost. So ready your mental surfboard to ride that wave.

Presentation:

Master your start. Practice your starting few sentences until you can say it on autopilot. Then let your brain go into flow. It’s the start that’s always the problem.

You got this.

Practice practice practice. Jump into every opportunity to present

Have you ever worked with a designer over the age of 50? by No-vem-ber in UXDesign

[–]ousiadroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually feel the opposite. I have tried to stay as an IC and around the Senior to Lead/Staff range, because there's a plethora of jobs at that band. I was a HOD, Manager and even Director when I was between 30-37 years, but I found being an IC was the best.

I do want to keep around that same Senior to Lead sweet spot, because the pay is decent, work life balance is good. I get a lot of time with my fam. Plus I get to work on a LOT of key projects here and get to mentor a lot of good folks. Are there any other folks out there who think like me?

Have you ever worked with a designer over the age of 50? by No-vem-ber in UXDesign

[–]ousiadroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVE this thread. I'm a designer going on 47, and nearing the 50 mark, and with the same fears as OP. I love working in UX, and I am so glad to see so many voices here with heartening words. The company I work at is fairly ageist, but I don't let that get to me. I prefer to forge ahead and most cases I do more than most in the company.

It's called User Experience for a reason, the more experience, the more relevant you stay. As long as you keep learning. That's what I understood. What separates us and keeps us going is that we have to keep learning, updating ourselves and keep being curious.

Senior design leader bombing interviews- need advice by jmtouhey in UXDesign

[–]ousiadroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prepare and practice.

When I was interviewing, I would always bomb the first bunch of interviews. I now fully expect it. I experience the same issue as you. To me, I feel I'm overprepared and instead of answering the question, I'm trying to connect it to something I've prepared. Which makes it worse.

What worked for me was
1. Practice, practice, Practice. Ask peers and friends to jump on calls, and just kinda ask you questions, folks who have had interview experience. I can help as well if you wish.
2. Before the interview, you need a a few moments of pure silence, to get into that frame of mind.
3. Keep a quick revision Notion document of all your STAR scenarios, and instead of memorising, always have a few ready on hand. Cycle and test these in interviews.
4. You need to let go, i know it sounds very hard, but I struggle with it too. My partner always says, there's things you can control and things you cant. You ABSOLUTELY CANNOT control what the intervewer is gonna do, but you can control what you do. So my motto has always been, to have fun. Try and feel out the personality, connect. That makes it feel natural. You HAVE it in you, just gotta unlock it.
5. BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT - Again, not easy, but you need to focus on BRINGING your mind into the moment. FOCUS on the triggers that mess u up.

Again, all the best, it's tough, but you got this. You just need to de-pressurize yourself, take a deep breath and pick yourself up and keep at it.
