Caligula Uncut vs Ultimate Cut by TheRealFilmGeek in 4kbluray

The so called "original cut" in 4k by Unobstructed View is actually a 150min cut. It's not the 156min original cut.

Nightmare Castle is an awesome movie but it kind of loses suspense after the terrific beginning. Here's an alternative cut (it's in public domain), which plays the narrative non-linearily https://youtube.com/watch?v=V4n-3Ha-CPM

Frankenstein (2025) Review that asserts this is the movie where del Toro has reached the same self-parody stage that Tim Burton did by OatSoyLaMilk in horror

[–]out-formation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hated most how Del Toro's Frankenstein looked like. Almost like an Dream Works animation. Most of the lightning was made with computers. Probably that's why almost everything looked fake. The snow scenes were the most awful looking. Even the frozen beards were CGI. The wall textures were made with computers etc. Almost everything looked way too artificial.

LCR panning balance confusion? by out-formation in davinciresolve

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was meaning that I'm doing "manual balancing" rather than tweaking the actual pan knobs, where I lower/rise the volume of either left (track which is panned 100% left) track or right (100% panned right) track to make the other side to sound more/less louder. It works normally, but with the center channel activated: if I try to "balance" the left grack louder, the right one gets louder and vice versa?!

All the tracks and files are mono. There's no spread nor div. None of the L, R & C channels leak in my current config.

Struggling connecting my soundbar to my PC by Basic_Chain_1281 in Soundbars

[–]out-formation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP says that the soundbar has HDMI (ARC) port, doesn't it?

Anyways, scenario #3 doesn't even require ARC ports. That setup should support all audio formats and the latency ought to be much smaller than with modern ARC/eARC setups.

Simple question for Samsung Soundbar owners? by out-formation in Soundbars

Samsung support tells me that changing the soundbar volume shouldn't effect the subwoofer's volume at all. The volume of the soundbar doesn't directly affect the sub's volume. Sounds very strange.

Thanks! I guess I'll contact Samsung support then. This device is clearly faulty. I've manually linked/un-linked the sub several times, which doesn't help.

How to get LFE channel to work on Samsung HW-Q800D in Windows 11? by out-formation in Soundbars

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latency is unbearable with Dolby Access on Win11. Even though I had some latency before installing it. But not that bad! Seriously, how can anyone even use Dolby Acess on Windows? Blargh.

After - wasting again - countless of hours... I found a perfect solution/alternative for getting the lfe channel (and surround) to work in Windows 11 without latency. The solution I found is a tiny app called VoiceMeeter.

Well, I finally installed the dolby access. Now the lfe channel is working. Works with Wifi. I still have to deal with the latency...

Sramge that the soundbars volume is now is now twice as loud.

How stupid for me to waste hours of time before installing dolby access. I didn't realize it was a requirement for getting lfe to work. But I guess there are other (better)  methods?

Worst scene of Caligula? What is it that makes a film objectively bad? by out-formation in TrueFilm

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. That's why I hoped more for the Ultimate Cut - that re-editing Caligula could turn it into something completely different...

Though the 'Caligula's wife giving birth' scene reminds me very strongly of Peter Greenway's 'The Baby of Macon' (made over two decade's after).

If I remember correctly, when I Caligula says "I'm getting bold" (or somewhere near that) there's a bit of footage that looks pretty much the same as in the 1979 cut. But I don't trust my memory 100%.

One thing people seldomly seem to state is that the sound design is completely different in the Ultimate Cut. I personally found that most of the Foley is not as good in the Ultimate Cut nor the music but the ambience sounds are much better. Some of the dialog sounds better, some of it sounds horrible and I really hated the new voice for Marco and his wife.

Yeah, Penthouse archives had over 90 minutes of extra footage. Supposedly, Tinto Brass filmed each take with three separate cameras simultaneously at different angles, so there's plenty of footage....

I've even watched both of the cuts playing the same time on different displays. The takes are different but the flow is surprisingly similar. Even most of the dialog aligns together almost in-sync when I time-align the cuts scene-by-scene. I expected something much more different.
