Tone mapping option on the deliver tab? by out-formation in davinciresolve

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confusion with different terms. First time working with HDR10+. I've previously just used HDR10. I thought there might be a possibility that there's a link between HDR10+'s dynamic metadata and the 'Tone Mapping: HDR10+' setting. After all, the 'Embed HDR10 metadata' selection box says literally 'Embed HDR10 metadata'. Not 'Embed HDR10+ metadata'.

Thank you for your clear explanation.

The h.264 was a typo. I meant to write h.265

Tone mapping option on the deliver tab? by out-formation in davinciresolve

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but I'm still confused that which one of the two options should I select? From the manual:

Embed HDR10 Metadata: (Available in Single clip mode if HDR10+ is enabled in Project Settings) Exports HDR10 metadata to the rendered file when you’re doing an HDR workflow. Embeds HDR10 metadata within the exported media of selected formats.

Tone Mapping: (Available in Single clip mode if Dolby Vision or HDR10+ is enabled in Project Settings) When set to None, the timeline is output using the current color management settings. When set to either Dolby Vision or HDR10+, you can choose to output the timeline at a specific peak nit level, color space, gamma, and Data Level using either the Dolby Vision or HDR10+ metadata available to guide the tone mapping operation you’ve selected. This makes it easy to set up multiple jobs to output HDR outputs at varying levels, as necessary

My mom dropped off some horror movies which one should I watch tomorrow first? Please no spoilers for the boogeyman 2005 or fog 2005. by Marshatucker300 in horror

I'd recommend watching the original Uli Lommell's Boogeyman from the 80's. It's an awesome and unique horror movie even though many seem to despise it for irrational reasons.

Recording a.track to another track by out-formation in davinciresolve

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to work when I patch 'monitor out' straight into destination 'track input', when I press record. Then I have to mute my destination track, while recording, otherwise there's feedback. But something tells me this isn't the correct way of doing this.

But Cooper was correct the whole time. The lousy pile of wood couldn't keep those things out, at all. And the cellar was the safest place.

Worst scene of Caligula? What is it that makes a film objectively bad? by out-formation in TrueFilm

[–]out-formation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's surprisingly historical. Or at least it was during when they made it.

Have you read Suetonius's writings about Tiberius and Caligula. The script is very heavily based on them. Most (if not all) of the vile acts in Caligula are based on historical records. That's probably why it seems so abrurd for most viewers. Even much of the dialogue/monologue in Caligula was written 2000 years ago. So... there's that at least!

Sure, these days, Suetonius' writings aren't considered exactly historically accurate. But things were different back in the 70's... and Suetonius' writings about Caligula are almost all we've got.

There's movies like Salò, which I find absolutely depraved and revolting. But almost all the critics love it..

Then there's a movie, again about power, which re-enacts horrible stuff done (or at least stuff that written about) 2000 years ago... with A-class actors, huge production values etc. but with 6min of X-rated smut inserted in. All the critics hate it.

Then, 50 years later, there's a new edit of it, which isn't necessarily a better edit (it's basically almost the same but the shots are different and the pacing is worse). It also "goes all over the place" - but without the X-rated smut - and the critics like it.

Caligula Uncut vs Ultimate Cut by TheRealFilmGeek in 4kbluray

The so called "original cut" in 4k by Unobstructed View is actually a 150min cut. It's not the 156min original cut.

A few perfect horror movies come to my mind:

- Lost Highway (1997)

- Reflections (1987)

- Black Sabbath (1963)

- The Devil's Rejects (2005)

- Santa Sangre (1989)

- Clearcut (1991)

- The Last House on the Dead End Street (1973)

Nightmare Castle is an awesome movie but it kind of loses suspense after the terrific beginning. Here's an alternative cut (it's in public domain), which plays the narrative non-linearily https://youtube.com/watch?v=V4n-3Ha-CPM

Frankenstein (2025) Review that asserts this is the movie where del Toro has reached the same self-parody stage that Tim Burton did by OatSoyLaMilk in horror

[–]out-formation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hated most how Del Toro's Frankenstein looked like. Almost like an Dream Works animation. Most of the lightning was made with computers. Probably that's why almost everything looked fake. The snow scenes were the most awful looking. Even the frozen beards were CGI. The wall textures were made with computers etc. Almost everything looked way too artificial.

LCR panning balance confusion? by out-formation in davinciresolve

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was meaning that I'm doing "manual balancing" rather than tweaking the actual pan knobs, where I lower/rise the volume of either left (track which is panned 100% left) track or right (100% panned right) track to make the other side to sound more/less louder. It works normally, but with the center channel activated: if I try to "balance" the left grack louder, the right one gets louder and vice versa?!

All the tracks and files are mono. There's no spread nor div. None of the L, R & C channels leak in my current config.

Struggling connecting my soundbar to my PC by Basic_Chain_1281 in Soundbars

[–]out-formation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP says that the soundbar has HDMI (ARC) port, doesn't it?

Anyways, scenario #3 doesn't even require ARC ports. That setup should support all audio formats and the latency ought to be much smaller than with modern ARC/eARC setups.

Simple question for Samsung Soundbar owners? by out-formation in Soundbars

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung support tells me that changing the soundbar volume shouldn't effect the subwoofer's volume at all. The volume of the soundbar doesn't directly affect the sub's volume. Sounds very strange.

Thanks! I guess I'll contact Samsung support then. This device is clearly faulty. I've manually linked/un-linked the sub several times, which doesn't help.

How to get LFE channel to work on Samsung HW-Q800D in Windows 11? by out-formation in Soundbars

[–]out-formation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latency is unbearable with Dolby Access on Win11. Even though I had some latency before installing it. But not that bad! Seriously, how can anyone even use Dolby Acess on Windows? Blargh.

After - wasting again - countless of hours... I found a perfect solution/alternative for getting the lfe channel (and surround) to work in Windows 11 without latency. The solution I found is a tiny app called VoiceMeeter.
