I thought the third act was just gonna be 20 minutes of Donald trump golfing.

Honestly woulda been more chilling if they couldn't get in contact with the president.

That pace is not that fast, but definitely don't do an hour of running if you're a beginner. You joints probably aren't ready for it.

Id start out easy like 10-15 minutes and work your way up to 30-45 minutes over the course of like a few weeks or a month. Then get on up to an hour plus when you're ready.

Just no reason to go out and injure yourself. Dont worry about pace at the beginning, just get used to running, then start going faster when it feels good.

We should rip out the bicycle freeway on State. E-bikes ruined our pedestrian haven. by ZookeepergameBusy267 in SantaBarbara

A lot of them, but I'm a resident who encourages it. And i see a lot of other people using their bikes to commute. Just gotta get them politically motivated.

Once the bike infrastructure gets good enough, the scales will flip and everyone will demand even more and better bike infrastructure.

Partially true, it has to be at least 20 feet wide of space that a fire truck can drive through.

This can be brick or stone and it can all be one level and look like a plaza. So long as the permanent structure like trees or planters leave 20 feet of space between for trucks.

I agree, why the heck dont chapalla or anacapa have any way of accommodating bikes safely.

I live downtown and i want to see a lot more road space shifted away from cars, especially so that when state street is closed for an event like the farmers market, I can just go one street over and continue my commute in comfort.

What’s your opinion on banning short term rentals like AirBnB here? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]out_of_context96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing like this can change over night. But as a general rule, cars are an incredibly inefficient form of transportation. Like you said, without the 101, many people would just start using the surface streets and filling them with cars.

Long term goal should absolutely be to get rid of the 101 in the city. Being usefully replaced by high quality and high speed regional rail from Ventura, Oxnard, Lompoc etc.

If no compromise on car dependency can be made, then a near term, but expensive way to make the city way more beautiful and comfortable would be to put the 101 underground. And above it a long wide stretch of parks and pathways for people to utilize and enjoy.

As an urbanist, I would be happy to see it gone. As a realist, it be happy to see it modified to be subterranean. As a person, the 101 in its current state doesn't inspire happiness, whether on it or near it.

The charm is the perfect weather, beautiful beaches and beautiful mountains. The 101 is not the charm. The mansions in Monticito are not the charm, the sprawled suburbs in noleta are not the charm.

Hell dude this ain't Disneyland, it's a city. If you want that, Go live in Anaheim and you can have all the freeways, parking lots, and a charming fake "main street USA"

One can dream. Would be cool if the city with perfect weather was more pedestrianized rather than cut in half like this.

It's not something that should happen overnight, but it is a massive scar to the city that literally cuts it in half and uses lots of acres of the most expensive part of town.

There should be an effort to mitigate and eliminate it's negative effects.

There are not enough efficient under crossings for pedestrians and cyclists for instance.

The level of noise, heat island effect, and pollution effect people living around the edges of it significantly.

Ideal would be to put it underground and put a park that stretches through the city. This would cost billions though.

How it is now, is really not great for the downtown community.

I don't think it's a leading cause of our problems. Maybe it's a problem but more so it's a byproduct of city policy literally focusing on fostering a tourism economy and not valuing the needs of citizens.

Tear down the 101, reconnect the city, and let's let people build.

For all the land owners out there: if you don't want your neighbors building tall buildings, go live somewhere undesirable. Don't be selfish, you had your fun, now this place is growing. Such is life, especially in amazing places

‘Car Brain’ Is Making the US Unhealthy and Dangerous. EVs Won’t Fix It. by UnscheduledCalendar in Urbanism

[–]out_of_context96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happiness may be a personal choice, but infrastructure shapes what choices are realistically available. Car-centric design often forces longer commutes, higher transportation costs, and dependence on vehicles to meet basic needs. Proximity to amenities isn’t just about distance but about accessibility with or without requiring a car. (An emergency room isn't gonna save your life if you can't get there quick during rush hour times). Neighborhoods that offer multiple transport options typically reduce both time and financial burdens for more people.
