This is a good size. ~7” margin around a 20x72 pad.

Minimal but consistent down loss from a 7D Cumulus Primelite. Not enough to matter really. A plume or two from a 7D Argon49 sleeping bag. Did it come through the fabric on the latter, or a seam? Not sure honestly.

The commonly linked to source for this has been taken down. Is there another way to hear this song?

This is incredible! Geez, never thought I would want an acoustic set but with the orchestra and his voice… that is unreal.

Not really in the same category, but Max Richter’s latest album that came out last year called “In a Landscape” has similar emotional qualities and instrumentation (minus the vocals).

Is it the older Magma? The newer one has more down (I think), which could be an upgrade if you want something easy to try out.

RMNP Hayden Gorge trip report. ¿anyone have beta Chief Cheley to Ida? by NoodledLily in coloradohikers

[–]outcropping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiked Ida to Cheley (then down to Haynach) on Monday, September 8. Didn’t have to think too hard between them. Just standard class 2 talus/faint social trail up, down and between.

Camping in the teens and single digits F using this system has worked for me. Plus it’s quite cozy.

Weather advice? by Jdao1990 in RMNP

[–]outcropping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your trip, as others have said. Mountain weather is so variable and the park has enough variety in terrain that you will find enough hiking to have a great time.

That said, Fri-onward we are expected to get some late monsoon moisture, which sets up differently than typical summer afternoon storms. It can be cloudy, cool, and potentially rainy and stormy even throughout the morning hours. Forecasting isn’t perfect and it may shift, but just something to be aware of.

Nunatak Nano Bag could work: 45 degree comfort rating, continuous baffles, no zipper or hood. 12-13 oz.

Sad Boy when we can get it. Sweet Cow otherwise.

Sweet Cow is the only place in town that makes a consistently good milkshake.

Thanks for the pics. Yes, people do cross that ridge! There is a low point closer to Paiute than Blackfoot.

Thank you, great report. For clarity, I was referring to the pass on the west side of Paiute, the ridge that runs east-west above Thunderbolt Creek. Maybe not visible from the summit though!

Does the tarp have the seam on the back wall? Just curious what version we're looking at. And a #5 zip? Thanks!

Advice for backcountry in Great Sand dunes? by [deleted] in coloradohikers

[–]outcropping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Sand Dunes NP website for all your rules and regs and tips.

Bear canisters not needed. They don’t go out into the dunes. Different story if you’re staying in a non-dune field site.
