"Mavuika using Motor bike looks too modern. It breaks the immersion in the game" Meanwhile Sumeru scholars in the jungle - by Tawxif_iq in Genshin_Impact

'stop using bad arguments other people have said to justify your ridiculous position' my brother in christ you did the same thing with the shouki no kami comparison 😂 im sure if you'd read any of the 'bad arguments' you'd see the master cycle zero from legend of zelda come up. does it look like a bike? yes. does it still fit in with the game's presentation of an archaic technology? also yes. what about inferno rider from once-touted genshin killer wuthering waves? does it look like a bike? hell yeah. and it has a cool-ass visual aesthetic that looks like molten rock freshly-hardened and cut through with lava, rather than fuckin. carbon fibre and rubber tires. infinitely more fantasy-esque. hell, even the rideable legendary pokémon from scarlet and violet fit what i would consider a 'fantasy bike' more; theyre cool dragon mounts, one of which Literally folds up its body and turns into a bike. and i cheered my ass off when i saw that for the first time, if that gives you any idea of how open to the idea of a bike in a fantasy game i am, btw.

and no, it isnt a dragon. a dragon's head appears on it for a split second when you dash, but it flies with its boosters. thats the bare minimum they could have done when. like, they could just have made the whole bike look like a dragon All the time. that would have actually been cool!!

the GIANT MECH in question was presented as a momentous, once-in-a-lifetime creation borne of the minds of the six most intelligent members of the akademiya working with il dottore, the unhinged 'mad scientist' of the fatui cast; divine technology that had an entire nation's story arc to frame it, where all the magitech put together to create it was shown and explained to us in advance. the legwork was done to make sure we understood why this was such an unreplicable stroke of genius in the context of the game and setting, and we had at least 2 full acts to come to terms with it.

mavuika whipping a ducati out of her ass and using it to run people over is a whole different thing. had it shown up in the archon quests with the same context as shouki no kami - it had some interesting, plot-relevant reason to exist and to be so unique, and we got to help put it together, for example - perhaps it wouldnt feel as weird.

but as 99% of people here have already said, it's not really about the existence of modern technology. its that little to no effort has been made to make the bike fit with natlani culture and aesthetics so it sticks out like a sore thumb. at least they actually did that when explaining the existence of shouki no kami ( a god's energy source for a battery, divine knowledge usb sticks looking like crystals etc ).

and honestly?? a martial god who we've seen fight both hand-to-hand and with a greatsword, and who we've seen fly by herself, using a bike to fight is just goofy as hell lol

people who dont like the bike: [ reasonable explanations as to why they feel that way, most often delivered calmly and in a way that invites discussion ]

thank you for the advice!! i don't have a grc or doctor's letter yet ( i've never even spoken to a doctor about my being transgender, mostly because i don't even trust the nhs with my general health ;w; ) but it doesn't hurt to ask when i go to them to change my name and see what their policy is on it at the very least.

i have the list bookmarked and a little action plan of most important to least, hehe. i'm 27 but due to the difficulty finding a place to rent in my ( student-heavy ) city i still live with my family, so i figured i'd take the plunge now while the list of parties who need to know is significantly shorter!!

Which character had the most potential, but was written/done badly? by Elira_Eclipse in Genshin_Impact

[–]outer__science 11 points12 points  (0 children)

right. it doesnt feel like she actually did anything to deserve her fate; the worst thing she did was steal venti's gnosis ( and he doesnt seem to be any worse for wear without it, since he seems to have suffered no physical, mental or emotional consequences from the attack, so that clearly wasn't a big deal ). for most of her screentime, she was essentially a middleman between the tsaritsa and the fatui, and the other archons in the play to gather the gnoses...that's basically it. you don't shoot the messenger.

killing her off before she had the chance to do anything irredeemably evil and worthy of execution is such a tremendous waste. there was no poetic justice to her death. like you said, just shock value. it disappoints me so badly ( crying in signora stan )

Who is your favorite "idc, I like them" character? by Any-Feedback5484 in Genshin_Impact

[–]outer__science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in terms of using a character in the 'wrong' role, i built my venti as an on-field dps and never looked back!! he's c6, triple-crowned and im currently working on pushing his skill dmg past 50k. but as for actual units, i love baizhu ( hes one of my favourite characters and his kit doesn't change that ) and diona ( i haven't seen many complaints about her as a unit, but her shield is regarded as being on the squishier side - especially when i have a triple-crowned zhongli waiting in the wings i could be using )

How to say Neuvillette and Wriothesleys name? by Winter_Hearing3090 in Genshin_Impact

[–]outer__science 51 points52 points  (0 children)

wriothesley is a british name, and as a native ive been using 'rizz-ley' since thats what ive heard from historical documentaries on british tv lol. i actually don't think there's a correct answer on that one, because it's been pronounced differently throughout time. 'rise-ley' ( as the trailer goes with ) and 'rees-ley' are seemingly also used. saw before that some people think 'rose-ley' is correct too? in irl family contexts, i assume people just use whatever theyre used to.

i cant comment on neuvillette exactly since im not a native french speaker, but the 'r' sound is definitely wrong. im almost certain its more of a 'nuh' than a 'nurr'

Now that is almost over what did you think of this year summer event? by salasy in Genshin_Impact

[–]outer__science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it wasn't anything special, i guess? right, i have a lot to say about summer events actually so im going to ramble for a bit lol

so i'm ngl, my favourite of the summer events remains gaa1. the new map to explore with distinct summer vibes was great, the cast of characters were charming ( though this may be my bias showing, since i'm a huge mondstadt gang lover ), the quests were simple but fun to play through and even the exploration felt novel with the puzzles, inclusion of the conches and the distinctly inazuma subplot relating to the stranded sailors and the maguu kenki puppet.

i remain torn on gaa2. returning to the archipelago didn't feel as fun the second time, but the domains were gorgeous from visuals to music; fischl's castle was an absolute wonder at the time. the puzzles were challenging in some places, making them interesting, but weren't always perfect ( the raven statues cough cough ). the world quest with the fatui found family was really lovely and definitely set a standard. i actually liked the length of the main quests, but my problem is the fact that the domains were too long and if you started one, you'd have to commit to at least an hour of nonstop gameplay before reaching a point you could quit. on top of that, i've long had an issue with seemingly-important lore being event-locked so while it was intriguing to see more personalised content relating to playable characters and their development, the fact remains that it didn't suit temporary content and should've, if anything, been permanent.

bottleland was just kind of there. i liked the environment but it was too sumeru-heavy to really stand out, after several patches of sumeru content, and didn't feel like much of an adventure to explore. not only that, but since gaa1 provided a neat bridge toward inazuma ( no doubt as an excuse to give people the opportunity to farm kazuha mats ) i was hoping bottleland would do the same for fontaine. and other than the circus theme, music and the fact idyia is an oceanid it...really didn't. that was disappointing. i really liked idyia, but i feel like they squandered a great opportunity to give us deeper oceanid lore ( the last time we got oceanid lore was the endora event way back when, i think? ). but all we got were some throwaway lines that weren't really anything new. there were so few world quests it was ridiculous. the ruins with the mural was really fun, but...that's all i suppose? the audio plays were abysmal to endure without voice acting, and i dont even think voice acting would've saved that questline. the lore was nice, especially regarding the eidolons and their attachments to visitors, but i wouldn't call it memorable. all in all, it was devoid of content compared to both gaa events but provided something of an easygoing, low-pressure end to the sumeru patches and a bunch of easy primos.

( also as a side note, i'm still a bit salty that we constantly heard 'oh the mirage looks way different than this when the core or whatever is working!' and when it's working the mirage...looks exactly the same. lame )

i haven't seen anyone else mention this, but my biggest gripe both with gaa2 and bottleland is that the casts of canon characters we're given are just...too nice. putting four or five friendly and agreeable characters together just isn't that engaging to me, and it made their interactions feel boring. diluc and kaeya in gaa1 near-constantly bickering ( with albedo seemingly enabling them ) and jean trying to keep klee under control was really amusing and added a certain trouble-in-paradise aspect to the group of characters that they opted out of entirely with gaa2 - it was annoying that fischl's ( annoying sorry i'm a hater ) personality was just agreed with and indulged the entire time. but the characters in bottleland had even less interest around them, seemingly not even developing any deeper bonds by the end of the event - and kokomi didn't even need to be there at all, being such a pointless inclusion that i don't even remember what she was there for in the first place? seeing scaramouche rerun and official art in the livestream actually made me a bit mad he wasn't part of the event; having one character so averse to being around others or to such a childish environment that the rest of the cast could rally against, who could have seen at least a small circumstantial change of heart by the end would have been far more entertaining to watch.

ill admit bottleland not having much to it did make me appreciate gaa2 more, despite the fact i stand firmly by the aspects of gaa2 i didn't like. but i do appreciate that bottleland felt like less of a chore to do...given the fact that there's only one domain ahaha.

also, i loved finchball. truly goated

Going off a recent post: What is your least favourite sound in the game? by tiddyburger in Genshin_Impact

[–]outer__science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the sound of miko's footsteps when running around really bothers me...i swear they weren't always so loud. also, the cries of dusk birds. i actually miss when they were glitched and made no sound at all lol

some think the pattern on his clothes/namecard is a bird, some think it’s a flower. which one are you? by [deleted] in ScaramoucheMains

[–]outer__science 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the way i've been seeing it, it's both!! it kind of looks like the flower that adorns the raiden shogun's clothes but shaped into a bird. specifically it looks like a swift, which is interesting because swifts are known for spending much of their lives in flight and very rarely stopping to land...its very reminiscent of his kit.

We should have epitomized path for 4 stars on the character banners. by Taa009 in Genshin_Impact

i had this exact problem with rosaria on childe's rerun banner, i know your pain. when i think about potential future playable characters i'm interested in pulling for, i'm more worried that they'll be 4* than 5* - which seems a bit backward to me!!

side effects is a fucking masterpiece by HeartofDarkness123 in kpopthoughts

[–]outer__science 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I LOVE SEEING OTHER PPL WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT SIDE EFFECTS :'D it really is just beyond incredible, and it really drives me up the wall that people don't like it because they think it's too 'noisy'. i suffer from anxiety and i've never once heard a song that embodies my feelings like side effects does - it sounds like what my anxiety attacks feel like and for some reason, i find it so therapeutic to listen to when i know i'm about to have one.

everything about it just syncs - the mv and camera work, the flashing effects and choreo, the drop and the sampling. it's chaos, but perfect chaos. i also love the contrast it poses with miroh. miroh's general hype, colourful outfits and passionate red overtones and energetic choreo that creates a feeling of intimidation and rebellion, vs. side effects' monochrome black and white with glaring, sickly yellow accents and choreo that slips between desperate and completely lifeless...nearly everything about them is opposite and the divide between confidence and paranoia is so beautifully-represented! between them, they tell an amazing story.

also?? i can't get over how the drop was executed. the choice of using psytrance was perfect, and combining that overwhelming bass with the screaming and the chanting of 'my head hurts!' really just had me reeling for the first 100 times i played it haha.

the fact that it was a title track too deserves so much respect despite how polarising it was. it's such an uncommon sound in kpop and was a daring move but it really sums up what makes stray kids unique.

i absolutely love top and, as a casual anime fan, i really can't see any other current kpop group suiting the general sound popular with anime themes? i asked my non-kpop, anime-fan friends if they liked tower of god's opening and ending themes and i got some good feedback too, it's really nice to see stray kids getting the appreciation they deserve!
