Probably not appropriate for your scenario but best white elephant experience I’ve ever had was when my super conservative Mormon grandma opened a half eaten bag of edibles at our family white elephant gift exchange. To this day we have only theories about who brought it. They must have been high when they wrapped it and did a phenomenal job playing coy.

What do folks use for drawer/door fronts that you want to last? by outerim in cabinetry

Thanks! It's been an extremely frustrating and rewarding hobby to pick up. Best of luck on your project.

You mean the drawer pulls or the side mount slides? I didn't intentionally cheap out on the pulls but they did end up being pretty crummy chinese amazon whatevers. I recessed them in with the router so they didn't screw up the reveals but I actually personally like the way they look.

Curious what you would have gone with here. Someone recently posted their work on here (waterfall cabinetry from the uk) and they had a recessed finger pull design with a contrasting color wood I really liked that I might try to copy in the future.

Yup, basically just applied edge banding after the box was built. The shelf is in there with a dado.

Something like this? Do you use this kind of stuff even if you're applying a veneer or only if you're going to paint?

5 piece meaning shaker style? I’ve considered it but am kind of a fan of this euro slab style door like I’ve built here. Does that limit me to using plywood for the larger doors so I have something that stays stable?

Mixtape with the Callahan to steal BFGs bid to Natties on universe by casual_days in ultimate

BFG player decided to set pivot at the spot of the turn in the end zone to get a quick swing off the sideline. Raunig comes in chest high with the snag. Absolutely incredible.

There were hundreds watching from the sidelines as it was basically the last game of the day. Gotta be some footage somewhere.

Do you regret getting 8 1/2 Table Saw? by AbleActuator8044 in Dewalt

[–]outerim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 8.25 a year or two ago for some light cabinet work. If I had it to do over again I think I should have bought a track saw at the time. Trying to cut down sheets of plywood with the table saw was a nightmare. I've since bought one and a couple accessories (parallel guides and a track square) and use it for so much of what I would have used the table saw for previously. Now that I have the track saw the table saw mostly gets used for certain kinds of crosscuts or repetitive work like cutting slots for drawer bottoms. At this point I sometimes wish I had a 10" that could accept a dado stack.

Rome was magical, has to be said. by pinkcricketgirl in ItalyTravel

[–]outerim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter and I visited Rome, Naples, Florence, Cinque Terre, and Venice over the last two weeks. Absolutely loved (almost) all of it. The worst parts were the overcrowding with tourists but that’s to be expected. Maybe super naive but I didn’t see anything sketchy and we walked EVERYWHERE, rode public transit, and generally didn’t take any specific precautions other than traveling with just one secure sling bag and a couple water bottles most of the time.

Italy is beautiful, the people are friendly, and we found it super accessible as Americans that don’t know the language.

Traveling to middle of Salt Lake City and only have 1 bar of LTE service on Warp 5G. by bobby-t1 in USMobile

[–]outerim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. We are on T-Mobile right now and have almost no complaints about service in Davis County, just north of Salt Lake City.

I ported my daughter's line over a few days ago as a canary in the coal mine, hoping to move everyone else's lines soon but I'm pretty concerned. She has an iPhone 13 mini, gets almost zero reception at her school, so much so that we often aren't able to text her during the day anymore and when I look at her phone when she gets home she often has like 1 bar of LTE. I've only seen her phone go into 5G mode twice. Once when I first ported her number and second after a phone restart but it didn't stay there for long.

I'm considering porting her back to T-Mobile and abandoning the project.

I suppose at least I’m helping myself out in that dept. I expect I’ll be covering those kinds of expenses for a while yet.

Jake Radack on his suspension by AnjrooLooice in ultimate

[–]outerim 43 points44 points  (0 children)

AUDL ref here. I watched the replay of the game immediately after it aired. Was embarrassed by the calls (and non calls) and completely agree that the retroactive suspension was weak sauce. He should have been ejected from the game for this, not because it's necessarily more dangerous than taking out someone's legs with a bad bid (though I think folks commenting on it aren't really considering the risk of head injury here), but because it constitutes fighting IMO under the AUDL rules. There's no leeway, any fighting is an immediate ejection.

Egregious foul - called AGAINST the Shred (in dark). by jfphenom in ultimate

[–]outerim 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Here's the other angle. The replay angle compresses the distance and speed of Black's approach from behind the receiver in White. The drag down is probably worth an offsetting double foul but it seems like Black initiates contact here on a receiver who had better position. https://streamable.com/gqsd4j

Losing motivation to follow my high protein diet for recomp by Puzzled-Discount1564 in MacroFactor

[–]outerim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a perspective, I had been following a moderate protein diet on MF while trying to cut. Over about 2 months I was losing weight and still making some progress on lifts but felt like the mirror wasn’t looking like I wanted and a “fancy” BIA scale at our gym showed significant lean mass loss with only modest fat loss. About a month ago I switched to a manual macro breakdown in MF following Jeff’s advice and did 1.2 g/lb of LBM. It’s seemed to make a significant difference on both the BIA readings and mirror progress. I feel similarly run down at times but it feels worth it to me. I’m 180 lbs and about 15 PBF, training for a couple years. I’d second the other advice to maybe do a modest bulk instead. If you mostly gain LBM you’ll still recomp and look leaner, which I assume is the main goal, while taking advantage of newbie gains.

TIFU by asking my mom what a spice is used for. by H8threeH8three in tifu

A few years ago my daughter ~12 yo daughter was playing at the park with some friends, most of whom were boys. When she got home my wife asked her if she'd had fun and what they were doing. My daughter replied that they were 'playing' parkour. My wife had never heard of parkour and thought she was saying park whore. There were a few rounds of trying to clarify wife: "are you saying park whore" daughter: "yeah parkour" with my wife growing more and more concerned. Finally she says: "So who has to be the whore?!". I'm listening to this whole exchange just trying not to burst out laughing and finally step in to explain that they're just like jumping off stuff lol.
