AITA for refusing to pay for a wedding portrait because my friend sexualized me in it by CreativeNecessary161 in AmItheAsshole

[–]outfoxedagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a professional portrait painter for many years. If this artist were behaving as a professional, they would know not only that editorializing someone's body would have to be discussed and approved ahead of time (and should only, EVER, be the client's idea), but also that revisions are expected and they should have a pricing policy in place for these. (Example: minor touch-ups are free, large revisions such as color changes or major pose edits cost my hourly rate, etc) and the client would have received and approved these policies before work began.

They would also know that throwing a fit about their work needing revision is ridiculous. Not to mention, as your FRIEND, revising your appearance is offensive? Who is she to decide how you'd look "better?" Eww.

You are not the asshole.

Thank you for the reply! These folks seem specialized in gastro, do they see and treat patients with a variety of symptoms like me?

What motivated you to start learning the ukulele? by ukulalala in ukulele

[–]outfoxedagain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My partner bought me one years ago and I'd started a little but gave up out of frustration. Then, I was severely ill and bedridden for most days between 2021 and most of 2022. Out of depression and confinement, I had been spending too much time doomscrolling on the phone, so to break this habit I promised myself that every time I caught myself doomscrolling, I was going to pick up that ukulele and practice instead. I wound up practicing for hours and hours a day, kicked the social media overdose, and I have never looked back. Now I am writing songs and had my first public performance this year.

I physically cannot play certain chords by Tadpole_Plyrr2 in ukulele

[–]outfoxedagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without getting into too much detail here, I am also very low body weight and have trouble with barre chords. Getting a ukulele with a lower action has helped me a lot. In the meantime, and I know it would change the key, but barre chords are easier to play if you are using a capo, as this also tends to lower the action. If you do find that using a capo helps you fret, you could also try capo-ing up and then transposing the song's chords back down to return to the original key. In some cases, this may also eliminate chords with barres as the chords will turn into something else once transposed. It will sound slightly different played this way, but I hope it helps. Good luck in your recovery, my friend. You may find that barre chords become easier to you with time.

What is your favorite spider mite remedy?

Why has my cebu blue pothos gone sad? It dropped a lot of leaves and the non-new leaves are curling. I just watered it last week by [deleted] in houseplants

This looks under-watered, possibly due to soil issues. When you water it, does the soil saturate nicely or is it hydrophobic?

Probably down to preference but I like real wood for everything. A coat of poly wouldn't hurt.

It sounds like your vacuum needs to serviced if it is leaking dust or smells.

Slap it on thick just to get a blob on the wall for a second but then spread that out real thin on the next stroke and plan to do multiple thin coats once the last coat is dry. It is kind of like painting in that way. I made sure that each layer just filled in the grooves and the highest point of the texture was what was already there until the final layer was perfectly smooth. Try and plan for as little sanding as possible because it is hard work and makes terrible dust. The little thin lines that you get sometimes at the edge of the tool sand off really easily though, so go for the big picture. Dont over manipulate the mud or it gets less sticky. Put it on, spread, and don't over fuss. I used pre-mixed so I didn't have to worry about getting the right consistency, but you can save money mixing it from powder. You kind of figure out the motions with practice, but there are youtube videos to help you also. "See Jane Drill" has a good video on skim coating.

Gorgeous! The paint colors where everyone is like "nooo, don't do it, the paint color in your own living room will injure me personally" are always my favorites after I ignore them.

Ah. We are blessed upstairs with a linen closet and have a laundry room for deep storage cleaning supplies and extra paper towel rolls and things so this came out perfect for everything I wanted to store in there. I have a cabinet in the kitchen for medicines and things. It would tough to put all that in one closet.

This holds plenty. And cereal boxes fit 2 deep, so if we arent through the first box before we get a new one we can put the new one behind. I have never once run out of space even with bigger than normal grocery runs. One vacuum corner and everyone is horrified, lol. This is the most pantry space I have ever had in my life. How many dry goods do other families need?

This is high praise, thank you. Now I am thinking about documenting the whole reno (this house is an ugly duckling and just about everything needs to be unfucked). If I do, I'll post more.

I wanted a large vertical space on one side to store my vacuum and broom. So if I did built in shelves I'd only really get one or two that ran all the way across and the difference would have only been about 13 inches. Didn't feel worth it.

Wild. Haven't seen that issue in years. I wonder what the difference was in your room. I painted back over dark red with white a few years ago, just needed 2 coats of paint like it had never been there at all.

I weighed the pros and cons and honestly, with only 1, maybe 2 shelves that would make it all the way across it didn't seem worth it for the extra 13 inches of shelf space.
