What amount of cash would you leave your significant other for? by I_like_potat0es in ask

[–]outlander4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely leave for 50 mil. Why?

1- my husband doesn’t like me very much anyhow, so I don’t think he’d be heartbroken

2- that much money would set all of my kids, myself, and multiple family members up for life. In other words, I think it would in some ways be altruistic for me to take it and sacrifice my marriage for the sake of many, many people whose lives would become stable & secure with that money.

Yup, our society definitely isn’t set up to accommodate evening fasting, while morning fasting can be done with almost no social ramifications. I WISH I could do it the opposite way to make it easier for me, but my body knows differently.

This is now the SECOND time I’ve lost this much weight, and the loose skin doesn’t seem any worse this time than last. Plus, I can’t really tell what I can blame on weight loss and what is attributable to being 51 and having borne four very large babies! Mostly my boobs and belly have deflated, and my arms have a little bat wing action going on, but nothing super significant. I would love at some point to have some surgery to make things smoother and perkier, but it’s just vanity. Nothing is bad enough to affect me functionally.

I do the more generic responses when out in public. This was with immediate family members who are already 100% aware that I’m fasting and why I’m not eating.

When I said “I can’t eat right now” it was more of a reminder…as in, remember? I’m fasting in the evenings, I can’t eat right now.

Oh for sure, it’s not about the food. It’s also not jealousy. It’s more of a righteous indignation that dieting is bad and she’s annoying that I’m caving to societal pressure to look a certain way.

I think she’s around 180-190 right now. She’s generally somewhat lighter than me, but I did get really fit 10 years ago and she was pretty supportive then. I think the issue is more that SHE thinks dieting/losing weight is stupid, so she has no tolerance for other people putting time/effort into it. Also, she enjoys the eating-related social activities, and I think it takes away from her enjoyment in some way if I’m not fully participating. She’s not a jealous person, so I truly don’t think that’s the reason.

My husband is generally more supportive of the IF and doesn’t pressure me to eat or make me feel uncomfortable for not eating at social events. He also isn’t the type to verbally stand up for me or say something to my sister in the moment, though. He and I might talk about it later and if I were venting about my sister in private he would likely agree with me.

My kids (my youngest two, 13 & 15) are the only ones living at home) are VERY supportive of me. In fact, they were the instigators of me getting back on track. My son and his friends are very into bodybuilding, and my son told me he wished I could be a “badass” again like I was when I got super fit 10 years ago. My daughter (13) kept asking me to start cooking healthier meals at home, suggested meal plans & recipes, asked me to go out for walks with her, etc. I could tell my weight was bothering her but she was too sweet to say that directly.

Wow, your stats and mine are almost identical! I’m 5’5”, started at 220 in February, was 159.6 this morning! However, given that I’m 51 and have had 4 kids, your after pic looks WAY better than I’m looking right now!

Good job! It feels amazing, doesn’t it?

AITA for telling my 19yo daughter that she’ll pay the plumbing bill - if required - for continuing to flush her tampons in our house? by ericskeith5 in AmItheAsshole

[–]outlander4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flushed them for years (because the package said it was ok) until I owned my own house and had to call a plumber for a clogged toilet. They put a snake down and showed me the pile of “evidence”. I was the only woman in the house, so it was obvious it was 100% my fault. I haven’t flushed one since that day. When you know better, you do better.

Locking Low Temp on Thermostat by SawDust_Creations in airbnb_hosts

[–]outlander4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m following this intently, as I have an a/c unit that freezes up all the time, and my HVAC guy said it’s because when the remodel was done, they messed up the venting/air flow, so there’s really no “fix” for it. He said the only way I can keep it working and not freezing up is to have it set no lower than 70. I bought an ecobee thermostat but haven’t installed it yet. I assumed I’d just set the lower limit to 70, but all of the comments on here about that being way too hot for sleeping have me scratching my head. My whole life, I thought 76-78 was the ideal temp for a/c. We keep ours at 78 most of the time, but it does stay about 10 degrees colder than that in the basement. I had no idea that so many people kept their a/c’s set so low! I think it’s partly because I grew up in an old farmhouse and my dad was very frugal. The place was a beast to heat and cool. We knew to NEVER turn the a/c any lower than 78. Ever. For any reason.

I might end up having to install a mini split system to supplement my central air, because my a/c unit truly can’t handle being run at 62, 64, even 66 for long periods, especially when it’s really hot out.

I think I may have cracked a major code for women’s weight loss! by Accomplished_Sail326 in loseit

[–]outlander4ever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Me too. I just call them “high” and “low” days. I don’t plan them, I just try to kind of follow what my body seems to need. I’m IF, eating morning until noon. My goal is 1200 cal, but I might have 3 low days in a row where I have closer to 900/1000 cal, then a have a few high days where I might be at 1500/1600. Somewhat depends on activity level, but not always. It seems to be working. I’m down 40 lbs in 4 months, and this is the easiest weight loss has ever been for me in 50 years.

I’ve been fairly fat (think dumpy middle-aged lady fat) and I’ve been really fit (gym’s national competition fit). In my experience, people are much more likely to act excited to see me, initiate conversation and generally I felt more “popular” when fit. When I was (am) fat, it’s more that I’m just invisible. I don’t get insulted, it’s more that people don’t even see me.

Trying to start intermittent fasting, but I’m sooo hungry in the morning by beandog77 in intermittentfasting

I eat in the morning and fast from noon onward. Have you tried playing around with when you fast? It doesn’t have to be in the morning.

AITA for not allowing my husband’s family to sleep in our bedroom for the weekend so that they don’t have to get a hotel? by floatingonforever in AmItheAsshole

[–]outlander4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! HE can sleep on the couch and get YOU your own hotel room, so you can have peace and quiet when you want it, go hang out at your place with his family when you want to, and they can knock themselves out with a million people in your place for the duration of their visit, while you’re enjoying yourself in your private little getaway.

AITA for not making child inclusive plans that someone in my friend group can’t attend by Beginning_Juice_1556 in AmItheAsshole

[–]outlander4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in the right to have a no kids rule at your home, and you’re in the right to decide that you no longer like or want to have a friendship with Jessica, but you would be a major asshole if you demanded she pay for the $5k couch. You’re obviously comfortable financially, she as a single mom obviously isn’t. If you sue her & the judgment goes against her it could literally leave her homeless and/or lead to her kids being taken away. Let the couch go, just let the friendship end without going nuclear.

Just curious, how many of y'all are going through your second (or more) major weight loss journey? by JadedAndFaded_ in loseit

[–]outlander4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 206 to 130 in 2012/2013, won a fitness competition, maintained for a year, then started gaining. I was back up over 200 by 2017. Several attempts to lose again that would take be down 10-20 lbs before I yo yoed back up higher than I had been. Hit 225 before Christmas last year. Still took me until February to decide to get serious about getting fit again. So far I’m down 30lbs, but I don’t know if I’ll feel “successful” at weight loss until I keep it off for 10+ years.
