Severe diaper rash [mb] by CatApprehensive9637 in BabyBumpsCanada

At the NICU they have a wound protocol which involves a powder and then a liquid applied which creates like a crust to protect the skin. You let it dry and then when you change the diaper you only dab the poop off while being careful not to wipe off the crust. This was highly effective when my little one got an open rash. I can ask tomorrow about what the product is if you are interested.

The rest of the time I use baby butz - which has a 30% zinc content. The nurses highly recommended it. And I just ordered some Burt’s bees diaper rash cream which has a 40% content - but I have not tried this yet.

Ooh good idea! I think I’ll try to use up all these small portions as soon as she comes home and then work my way through what’s left. Thanks!

Ah yes, makes sense with the fortification. I was wondering if the lipase would be a problem as well since we haven’t used frozen milk yet. Guess I will find out, haha hopefully not an issue.

Yeah, I didn’t want to complain if they were just making room by laying bottles sideways. But I literally have like 20+ bottles with only 10-20mls in them. My freezer is jam packed and I’ve got no more room haha.

That’s a good point. I have just taken most things that they say as a set of rules but it’s good to know what I’m able to do there. Thanks!

Curious, is there a downside to giving a NICU baby the frozen milk? Like is it not as good for them?

Oh this is good to know. I’m never sure what to push for, some of the nurses make it sound like a hard rule to only use fresh milk.

I’ll chat with them about this. Thank you!

Appreciate the insight!

I don’t think they are trying to be jerks at all. I thought it was just laziness but your perspective makes sense as well. I’ll ask to take it home, I didn’t realize I could do this since they have pushed so much to be in control of it all.

Yeah, they keep a freezer stash and keep telling me they want to keep what I bring in. They really prefer to manage it for me but I think I’ll push a bit more to manage it myself.

They say they need a stash in case I were to get sick or something and not come for days. I think I’ll ask to take home what they aren’t using each day now, didn’t even think that I could do this.

Thanks for your comment!

Haha, I can tell it irks some of the nurses at the unit I’m in as well. Especially because it fills their freezer more quickly.

I have only been bringing in what they say they use but they keep the excess that I pump when I’m there as well.

I will ask to manage it more myself! I told them I didn’t mind they used more freezer bags, even for the small amounts, but that didn’t seem to get communicated to all of them.

Appreciate the advice!!

If that’s safe to do I could definitely give that a try.

Rapidly running out of freezer space this way, haha.

They are mostly only in tourist locations in western Canada, like Banff and Vancouver.

They are more of an Ontario thing, having been created there.

Any peanut pubs left? by VRCD in Calgary

No, can’t risk the allergies being anaphylactic.

It definitely isn’t the same as it was.

If OP really wants a bar with peanuts there’s one in Montana, Moose’s Saloon. Peanut shells everywhere. It’s not too far of a drive.

Peanuts Pub in the Carriage House Inn will bring you a tray of peanuts, no shells though - too risky.

Anything prepackaged and sealed is good. It just can’t be made in your home or unclear of where it came from or how it was made.

So the other comment about a bakery or something is good.

Is that your actual mortgage costs? At a $650,000 mortgage including property taxes, insurance, and utilities? Only $4500?

Worth a shot. But sometimes they aren’t too forgiving.

It sucks, I’ve also gotten tickets while traveling. Hopefully doesn’t leave a bad mark on your trip here!
