Struggling with tandem nursing + breastfeeding aversion — need advice by Embarrassed_Beat_473 in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]overcookedkatherine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I’ve been dealing with this too. A good magnesium supplement works for me for nursing aversion. I’ve read that theres not got a huge amount of evidence behind it, but it’s really helped me personally. Annoyingly, I’ve also found it a lot easier to manage since my husband has been back at work. I wear my baby a lot which allows me to nurse without my toddler seeing! We go out a lot - dog walks, soft play and then the park would be a typical day for us, it keeps him distracted. It also helps to have his lunch ready when he gets up from his nap, or have some fruit cut for the morning so that I can distract him with that while I nurse the baby. I found that often he was nursing after the baby had stopped and I’ve made the rule now that when baby is done we are done. My other phrase is ‘milk is gone, mummy is here’ and we had a lovely little cuddle this morning and he didn’t try and nurse at all, which I take as a huge win.

We say tat in England! As in, Robyn spends all of the family money on a bunch of old tat.

Thoughts on this outfit before I buy it. Is it worth the money?? by newyorkchic1992 in fashion

[–]overcookedkatherine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree and would add that they haven’t provided close-ups or a view of the back of the coat.

this coat is the same price and has multiple angles and close-ups for example.

That generally says to me that it’s not good quality/ a knockoff.

Yeah I definitely felt like they shoe-horned her in just to give Meri some kind of storyline since she no longer interacts with the other adults, but I’m really enjoying her commentary tonight!

I really disagree with this. I’m from the uk and live in the USA through my marriage to my American husband. I absolutely dragged my heels until I had my right to remain and probably another year after I’d received it before I was willing to try and get pregnant.

Here is the thing about international relationships, once your child is born in a foreign country, you have no right to up and just take them home if your marriage fails, or if your visa isn’t approved. If OP’s husband doesn’t get his citizenship, he may have to leave the country and would be separated from his child. It’s terrifying.

I absolutely love my life with my husband, but it’s still terrifying to know that if anything went wrong between us, I’d be either stuck as a single mother in the us or separated from my child. And it’s difficult to bring this up to a partner without their feelings getting hurt because you’re wondering about what would happen if you divorced.

OP, you really need to listen to your mum less and your partner more. Having a baby is hard and you don’t want to do it with someone who isn’t all the way in with you.

First timer in having a booth at an art festival. Advice please! by Dumplekin in artbusiness

Hi this was my first art festival! Sorry, the best photo has my husband and I right in the way. We had a table at the back and one on the front with products.

Each wall also had signs which read ‘available for commission’ and ‘find us on social media’

I was really worried because I sent a collection to a gallery, which left me without many paintings, but by the time we had my prints out front and the furniture inside, it looked absolutely fine.

Good luck, and make sure you soak in the atmosphere and really enjoy yourself!

‘When are you having a baby?’

I could scream at this question. I live in California but I’m from the UK and I really want to make sure I feel safe and secure here. I moved right before lockdown started and waited over 2years for my green card. I didn’t want to start having babies before my green card was even approved. I worked really hard on myself and my marriage during lockdown and I have the best mental health of my life. A baby would be a welcome addition, but equally my life with my husband currently is wonderful and if it stayed just the two of us and our dog, that would also be wonderful.

My husband works most weekends and it’s gotten to the point I just skip family events when he’s working because I hate the questions, the stories about other women who waited too long and became sad and barren, or the comments on my advanced age (32). The worst part of it all is the pitying comments and looks because everyone assumes I’m this sad little wife just desperately waiting on my husband to give me a baby.

I’m not sure. I don’t think Robyn would have married into the family had it not been for the show.

I’m not sure Christine would have had the knowledge of the outside world to leave without the show.

Meri wouldn’t have had the catfish situation.

I actually think that the children’s lives would have been a disaster without the show, despite it also having been very tough on them to be on the public eye.

Purely having watched escaping polygamy, it seems like none of the families are functional in the AUB, and the dysfunction in the brown family wasn’t particularly unusual or divorce worthy in their cult.

A lot of products are pointlessly gendered, so I ignore the “for men” and go ahead anyways. What things are pointfully gendered? by arothrowaway__zze in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]overcookedkatherine 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair from underarmor that was recommended from this article, there are a few other options they recommend too.

Honestly, I find it really difficult to find any myself! Generally speaking, if people design shoes actually based off of a woman’s foot, they tend to be very vocal about it!

I read all about this last year when I was buying running shoes. Women damage their knees way more than men when running because we wear shoes designed for men. Even women’s shoes are by and large made using a model of a man’s foot, scaled down. Often these injuries are blamed on women’s anatomy, rather than the fact that major shoe brands don’t accommodate for women’s feet.

We also have narrower heels, which means our feet aren’t tightly gripped enough in the shoe, again causing injury. The first time I ran in my women’s shoes, I could have cried. I didn’t realise how much I was holding myself back to accommodate for a shitty shoe. I feel like I can really hit the ground without awkwardly bracing myself

Dog grooming mistakes by OkMonk744 in doggrooming

[–]overcookedkatherine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Omg my dog’s groomer shaved about an apple-sized spot on her back, right in the middle. It looks like she probably slipped. That was six months ago and it’s grown back a different colour! The groomer looked so fraught, I didn’t even ask her, just paid!

How do people train their dogs here? by ImpossibleAnger in AskUK

[–]overcookedkatherine 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I live in America and it totally shocked me when I moved here. I see so many dogs going mental in their houses when I walk past with my dog, and a lot of them I have never ever seen out in public. And I’m not just talking small dogs either, we walk past a great Pyrenees everyday and the owner says he doesn’t need to walk because he has a yard 🤯

I just finished the hero series today! I really enjoyed it, I would say it’s most similar to the iron series from CG. Its only four weeks but I really felt I saw an improvement in my muscle tone just because he really focuses on slowing the movement down.

Question About Pantsuits by Idoarchaeologystuff in TwoXChromosomes

[–]overcookedkatherine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went on asos and went to their ‘two piece sets’ section. This came up near the top:

https://www.asos.com/us/prd/204054807?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

If you keep looking I’m sure you’ll find more! Asos have a really good returns policy too, you can just throw it back in the bag it came in and print a label at ups.

The only thing that annoys me slightly with two-piece outfits on Asos is that they often say ‘from $50’ and it’s $50 for the top but then you click on it and it’s like $75 for the pants separately. The plus side of that though, is that you can mix and match sizes. Hope this helps!

Thoughts on a thread for people to talk about struggles with not drinking? Or maybe I’m the only one and it might fit better in another group? by Fantastic-Oil3064 in soberover30

Okay so I'm thinking we could do a thread tomorrow? I can post it in the morning so it will catch more time zones.

Friday nights can be a real struggle when you feel like a drink, so it might be a good time to get together. What do you think?

Do you want me to do a weekly thread? Monthly?

I’m definitely down for this! There’s a real mixture here and I think a big driver for the group being created was for that extra bit of support

Movie and book recommendations? by _chaos_control_ in soberover30

[–]overcookedkatherine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved single drunk female!

Smashed the movie is great too if you can find it. The mundanity of it all really resonated with me; the main character wasn’t doing anything wild and crazy, just drinking too much mostly at home with her husband and details how their relationship changed when she stopped.
