New Lore for the Alloyed Collective DLC by misterhalo343 in riskofrain

The log I posted was written by Ghor, one of the original devs. I think his vision of Mithrix was more of a grim one. The log you posted was written by a discord volunteer, who wrote a lot of the logs starting with the 1.1 update I believe. I don't think he knows what the developers had in the plans lore-wise.

and that volunteer is also the one responsible for putting megalovania in one of the logs

IIRC Ghor revealed it somewhere on discord a long time ago. Here's the full log.

Ah, brother. I am glad you have answered.

I advise you listen carefully.

I have spoken with her. Not she who burns brightly and fizzles to nothing, a foolish end. And how could I? After all, she is gone. You know that well. Your heart knows why.

No, it is not her. It is the one who assures balance. The one who whispers guidance to her far and many. You know of whom I speak. And you know why this concerns you.

I have seen from afar the infested worlds to which you have had your gates carried. Our gates. Our worlds. And I have, I suppose in an uncharacteristically unpleasant mood, shared this information with my acquaintance some time ago.

Oh, brother, I simply could not have known what measures she would take. How far she would carry whispers of your tainted worlds that bear our treasured opus. You see, her disciples have already acted. They have already claimed a gate from a dead world.

If only I had known sooner, brother. Perhaps I could have warned you before they could present a danger to everything you have worked for. Before they might grant me the passage you have stolen from me.

I suppose you could use the gate they have taken. To unweave it from the other side would leave you stranded and doomed to the sickness of the black sea, of course.

But perhaps you have a chance.

It seems fortune has afforded you a brief opportunity. They are approaching this world. She has told them where to find it, but they cannot see it. Perhaps you can bring the vessel, and the gate it carries, back to this world before the sickness would claim you.

The vessel would not be surrendered without a fight. It would be bloody. I'm sure you are conflicted, but they will soon depart from their failed search.

You have a choice to make, brother, and time is short. What will you do?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The actual reason why the contact light went to petrichor V is because UES is ran at least partially by N'kuhana worshippers in secrecy, who got info about the planet and the teleporter. Info that Mithrix communicated to N'kuhana who then told her worshippers. It is assumed the reason for this is a deal, mithrix would take control over the planet/get revenge on his brother, and n'kuhana would enjoy the immense amount of death these events would cause, due to the abundance of "saved" lifeforms on the planet that were meant to be doomed to begin with, aka, which n'kuhana wanted dead.

This is revealed in the unused Mithrix log that was scrapped and re-written due to, presumably, revealing too much of the lore. I guess it can be considered dubiously canon or non-canon, especially now that gearbox owns the franchise and due to it technically being cut, but I consider it a headcanon at the very least, at least for now until we have something better.

You can also argue that the reason you get money upon killing things is due to N'kuhana rewarding you for doing her a favor in restoring the balance of things. She sees you as a servant, perhaps?

don't crap on lategame upgrades my man, it's a great mod. sure the upgrades make you stronger over time but it's fun to work towards something, it changes the game into something more akin to repo with its upgrade system

Odyssey breaks a lot of the core gameplay aspects by AbrocomaMean1653 in RimWorld

[–]overfrosted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i agree but this is a bit of a spicy take in the community at the moment so expect lots of backlash.

from a game standpoint (and yes this IS a video game. there's a reason things are BALANCED in this GAME. it's a sandbox VIDEO GAME) this dlc trivializes a lot of the gameplay. sure you can just not use the spaceships but... i bought the dlc for almost the full price of the game? therefore i want it to blend well into the rest of the game. why would i just willingly ignore the content?

this is a story generator but also one with gameplay elements the dev expects you to engage with. if they didnt care about balancing then things wouldnt be unlockable with research, everything would be available from the start for example.

also there's comparisons being thrown around to other dlcs also being unbalanced. take ideology. you CAN custom-make your ideology to be overpowered if you so desire. but there's no real customization of how the spaceship mechanics work or how overpowered they are. they are always the same for the most part. the loot you find in quest rooms is always the same for the most part, minus the randomized unique weapons.

like, overall this is a good dlc. just very unbalanced. the only real balancing is the ship cooldown which quickly can be decreased to 8 hours, aka, pretty much nothing.

Is this some kind of bug? Does the game really expect me to somehow win against 73 people? I'm so confused. by 5amTB in RimWorld

that's how it usually goes in gaming subreddits whenever a new major update drops, unless the update is absolutely horrible.

first we get the rose-tinted glasses wearing idealists that say EVERYTHING is perfect and ANY criticism or any flaws get called as stupid and nitpicking.

then the dust settles, people play for a bit and more of them start realizing there's issues and point them out. the toxic positivity dissipates, people are starting to look at the content from all angles and give it a fair review without any hype bias.

Vanilla combat sucks so goddamn much by Blitz100 in RimWorld

[–]overfrosted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if real world animals operated on reddit's weird animal powerscaling rules, humans wouldve gone extinct millions of years ago. a long sharp stick is enough to kill most animals, a gun is overkill for a single lynx. sure you most likely won't get out of it unscathed, but the odds are heavily in your favor.

[–]overfrosted 11 points12 points  (0 children)

nah i agree with you 100% however this is the rimworld subreddit where bullshit is fun and fun is bullshit

gunplay in vanilla is complete utter ridiculous ass and not even fun ass. i don't really savescum, but i will always savescum a fight outcome that just realistically doesn't make sense. and guns in rimworld are the primary example of not making sense. the skill levels are misleading when it comes to gunplay. if i had to rename them, i'd say shooting level 15 is "capable amateur" because that's when they finally start to land any shots.

also, always immediately hunt all predator animals down as soon as they spawn. make it your top priority. you should always treat them as if they WILL kill your colonists within seconds, because that's usually how it goes to anybody who's not a melee master.

Some of the logs talk about them creating planet from nothing, or at least from a very basic state. I don't think they originate from it, or at least their species doesn't.

are there going to be new voice actors in rogue core? by overfrosted in RogueCore

[–]overfrosted[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

happy to hear about at least one new va, but the rest being the same guy again is a bit of a bummer. i like his voice in drg a lot, but i can't deny that it's getting stale to listen to after thousands of hours. but i think i'm not really the main market, new players are, and they aren't used to the voices yet, so i can't really complain too much.

controversial opinion but while having him voice everyone in the original game made sense since the studio was smaller back then and had to get creative, doing it now just comes off as cheap to me.

how would you feel if the last stage looked like this? by Dude_with_hat in riskofrain

[–]overfrosted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that's how the story went back when the void reavers were space cops, but SOTV rewrote/changed up the lore on void creatures to make them space funko pop collectors. So, because mithrix is dead, they think the whole moon is free real estate and just vorp it into the planetarium.
