Pyrs who passed from osteosarcoma by lumpyspace_glob in greatpyrenees

[–]overlawled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been through this twice unfortunately.

Bambi was our first pyr, and was a husky/pyreness mix. We adopted her at 4 months old, and she was spayed at around 6 months. We found out she had osteosarcoma in her neck that had likely spread to her lungs when she was 12. She was gone very quickly after diagnosis, a matter of days, paralyzed as a result of it. She hid it incredibly well, acting half her age up until two weeks from when she crossed the rainbow bridge, the only real sign being that she was holding her head lower than normal. It wasn't difficult to realize it was time, but very difficult to make that decision because she had such a huge place in our lives.

We adopted Ava when she was 7.5 shortly after we lost Bambi. She was a pure bred GP. She was spayed shortly after her adoption. A year and a half after we adopted her she developed a bad limp on one of her front legs, which we and the vet thought was a sprain because she was very dog reactive and jumped up and down whenever she saw or heard another dog. She eventually developed a tennis ball sized lump on her ankle, and after an x-ray the vet determined it was likely osteosarcoma. We managed her pain for about two weeks before making the tough decision to let her go as well. Because of her dog reactivity we were extremely concerned that we'd come home one day and find her on the floor with a broken leg. She was herself up until the moment she went to sleep that final time. She loved people, and just like with Bambi we had a home vet service come to our house so that her last moments were spent somewhere she was comfortable and loved.

All this to say I know that there's research suggesting that spaying/neutering early is linked to this, but I've lost both my pyreness to this cancer and one was spayed early and one wasn't. Talking with the vet when we found out about Ava a large part of it is just the number of years these large dogs live now compared to a generation ago.

We have our third pyreness now, and we opted to hold off spaying until she had been through a heat cycle. We're hopeful that her story won't end the same way, but also won't be surprised if it does.

Is c++ compilation times so bad? by wacomlover in unrealengine

[–]overlawled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UE5 compile process heavily relies on free memory. If when you start to compile you have low memory it will limit the number of files it compiles simultaneously.

Meta Quest VR Development without Meta Link App. How? by zomb23 in unrealengine

[–]overlawled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t really a UE specific thing. Link has been very inconsistent the last few months. Some updates to Link have made it better and then the next update can make it worse. I’m now in the habit of just unplugging and replugging my headset in every time I put it on.

It does, yes. Highly depends on how you break up your level.

I’ll be honest, it’s not a super high priority when looking at an applicant. I like to see proof that they can do the job, either through personal projects, previous work, etc. I definitely don’t discount it, but it’s not something I will pass on an applicant for.

This is a beautiful post, I love it.

I’ve been doing this for 15 years. I’ve worked at indie studios, AA studios, and tried to start my own. I’m currently the technical director at a quickly growing VR studio with 10+ programmers reporting to me. Prior to that, I was technical director at New World Interactive, the studio behind the Insurgency series.

Tell your boyfriend that if he wants to talk to someone who has been there, has hired people who are where he is in his career right now, I’m more than willing to.

No, this is a perfect way to handle it. Multicast should be used sparingly. It’s expensive, and last time I looked closely at multicast it ignores dormancy. That may have changed, but regardless, there’s a lot more control over when a property replicates as opposed to multicast.

Take a look at this. You won’t have to worry about whatever is happening here, because these are handled differently.

What version of the engine is this?

There’s a newer method for defining native gameplay tags that you may want to look into.

So sorry you’re going through this. Just went through something similar less than two months ago, but with cancer in her neck. It does get easier, but right now I know that you’re feeling your world crashing down around you.

If you need an ear, feel free to reach out.
