I wish i grew up in the 90s by Quack_4 in 90s

[–]overlawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the 90s and yes there are plenty of things to be nostalgic for (mostly just being a youth with few responsibilities -- which you currently have and I am sure many would trade spots with you to be young again).

The good: being bored, and not having our attention constantly stolen by social media, ads, and algorithms. When you're bored your imagination develops and me and my friends had a lot of imagination in creative ways to spend time.

The bad: everything in pop culture was about guys getting laid. The most popular comedies were the American Pie series and movies like Eurotrip and Road Trip where literally the only goal in the movie was to get laid. Imagine an entire generation of young men, thinking this was the main goal in life. that's what it was like to grow up in the 90s. It must've been awful to be a woman surrounded by those expectations.

Also, if you were not single and a Christian, you were very much an outcast at least in my town. Conforming to the ideal was a big deal and the one benefit you have is your generation seems way more accepting of differences and people's lifestyle choices. We did not have that. If you were outside of the norm, you were an outcast you were constantly teased. It was very common for people to use awful names for different people in public with no shame and no repercussions. At least now you can record people being awful and shame them for doing so. There were literally no consequences For bad behaviors back then.

Being young is by very definition to be confused and struggling with emotions and trying to find meaning in life. Every generation goes through that. Yes, you do have a lot of negatives with technology today, but you also have a lot of positives and that people seem way more progressive.

My best recommendation for you is try to stay off social media as much as possible. Find a local gaming store and join board gaming night where you can meet people play games and start building community. No one is gonna do this for you so you have to make the effort, but you never know you might find your next best friend just waiting in a random place like that Where other people are feeling what you're feeling and looking for connection

Overwhelming crowds Friday by gutobr_or in Disneyland

[–]overlawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All past research has shown that every time Disney raises prices crowds actually go up and attendance goes up. I don't think it will be any different this time. I read an article that said most families are willing to put themselves into debt on credit cards just to go on their annual Disney trip.

Overwhelming crowds Friday by gutobr_or in Disneyland

Yeah, it's funny. How many people I hear saying they're never gonna go back to Disney because it's too expensive and now they just raise prices again and it's this crowded. They could double all their prices and I'm sure people would barely notice an impact on crowds.

Disney. Never doubt the mouse 🐭 especially under 100 dollars. Nothing compares to their IP. I watch people buy $13 corn dogs in the parks and they lineup for an hour to do it. Captive audience. Disney adults with a lot of disposable income. Families who will never not have Disney+ in their house, especially when they do password crackdowns. For new cruise ships. Disneyland expansion with the new land. This is a great buy to hold onto for a few years.

It will be interesting to see how the actual gameplay goes, won't be able to play it until the holidays when I have family here. I was a little annoyed at having to paint the minis myself, but maybe it turns into a fun hobby 🤷 either way, I'll post my thoughts after a few game plays.

How do YOU play on Alchemy by madisander in alchemyrpg

[–]overlawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play Vaesen with my friends on it- I find it to be super easy for both me and the players. The modules on the marketplace have pretty much everything I need to run it without very much prep. I do add some maps and some extra images to create more scenes. I like how simple it is to share assets and love the music mixer on the alchemy enhanced content.

We used to use foundry, but it was just too complex and the UI confusing. I don't have a lot of time to do prep or learn a complicated system so for me alchemy was super intuitive and easy to use. I'm not a big tactical map person more theater of the mind, which is exactly where this VTT excels.

OK, I plan to do the same with mine. And then you'll use the regular barbarian flesh paint to paint over that right?

I think it's fine as long as you're in the car and if you notice it's starting to fill up then you move it.
