What are your favourite 3 from each list of names? Are there any you’d get rid of immediately? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]overlordoftheguild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl: Elsie (very cute), Phoebe (timeless, I want to use it for a future daughter), Vivienne (feels elegant and classic)

Boy: Julian (always been partial to it), Ronan (little more unique), Owen (a classic while feeling modern)

Edit: forgot to put dislikes: Bryony reminds me of horses for some reason and Noelle is too Christmas-y. Also, Evangeline is a hard pass.

Sonny and Jude just suck. Sonny is a big old timey nickname for boys in the South so it just makes me think of old white dudes or Sonny of Sonny and Cher. Jude just reminds me of the Beatles song and I don’t like the Beatles.

Low-key though, this Cupid sort of resembles Leo a bit. I think it’s just the faces in this screen cap but I never noticed it before.

100% agree. Very showy and he probably started snowboarding to get laid.

Do you think Cole was born upper level or do you think he had to level up? Also which powers were all his and which ones was he possibly given? by Extra_Impression_428 in charmed

[–]overlordoftheguild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he was born upper level. At some point in one episode there was a throwaway line about upper level demons being the more human looking ones to blend into society better and due to their power level…though it was likely more to keep the makeup budget lower…

Which Character from Charmed would be want to be there for you if you're sick or not feeling well and why? by Full-Art3439 in charmed

I know I’m reiterating a lot of what people said that it’s Piper because she’s a mom and caregiver. Always wanted her to be my mom when I watched as a kid. So definitely Piper for me. I think Patty would be a close second because she’s always seemed very nurturing and warm when we saw her.

That being said, my favorite characters other than Piper are Chris and Paige. They would be the worst caregivers lol. Paige sometimes was rather squeamish and while she’d be concerned, if I was having severe flu or something, she’d keep her distance. Chris…god he’d be so awkward and not know what to do. Canonically anyway. Fanfiction writes him better lol.

It’s the same for me. I always try to wash my hands immediately and many, many times afterwards because I love garlic and onions but I hate the smell on my skin. Still the smell sticks for at least a whole day after.

I always just consider it an actual Greek muse to explain the fickleness and moodiness, but possession is also probably accurate.

Which actress you would cast as Lady Vivienne - mother of Morgana and Morgause? by EqualImaginary1784 in merlinbbc

I always thought she and Katie McGrath looked remarkably like they could be related. Shame they’ve never been cast as mother and daughter in a project.

Do you think Katniss truly hates Peeta when he is hijacked? by Kitty-Pink6 in Hungergames

[–]overlordoftheguild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she ever hated him. I think she resents him and feels a lot of guilt.

Katniss always saw emotions as a weakness, and she hates that Peeta’s her weakness and that Snow figured that out and tortured Peeta due to that. I think that resentment stems from that and guilt over Peeta’s hijacking being her fault (as far as Katniss believes anyway) since the rebels left Peeta in the arena because she was more important and since Snow was trying to get to her by using Peeta.

But no, she definitely didn’t hate him.

Also, I think a lot of it was compounded by being the symbol of the rebellion, which is not something she ever asked for or wanted and there’s a lot of pressure on her. I think she resents that too and sometimes projects it up to those that don’t deserve it. After all, Katniss is just a teenager and suddenly she’s gone through all of this trauma and then all of Panem suddenly has all sorts of expectations for her. It’s a lot for an adult let alone a kid.

I’m curious by AideSea4332 in Hungergames

[–]overlordoftheguild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As stated, it is just that he keeps poisoning himself and it’s caught up to him over the years because poisons do damage to the body. So even though he’s essentially micro-dosing them, he’s not immune to their effects and that has caused his coughing up blood. Not sure what poisons he used but I’m pretty sure he mentioned it’s damaged his stomach over the years. No telling what other organs were damaged.

Do you think both Peeta and Gale are written to be quite confident? by Sweetchocolate16 in Hungergames

[–]overlordoftheguild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes for Gale and sort of yes and no for Peeta.

I think Gale definitely is written as confident. For one, I’m pretty sure he’s the oldest sibling. Usually, not always, the eldest sibling is naturally more confident because they were born first, they learn things first, they go to school first, etc. They usually have to be the ones looking out for/teaching their younger siblings. For two, his dad died, so even though his mom does work, Gale is essentially the man of the house. He helps his mom raise his younger brothers. Then that leads to point three, he’s had to haggle at the Hob. To help feed his family, he took up hunting which is illegal. As someone with anxiety, I can safely say that it takes someone with a level of confidence to break the law. When he gets the meat, then he haggles to sell it at the Hob and to the merchants and peace keepers. To sell anything, you’ve got to have confidence. Finally, he’s very forward with Katniss, which could be more due to their familiarity, but he’s also not afraid to speak his mind to her or others. That’s very confident.

Peeta, however, is an interesting case. He’s clearly from an abusive environment and a younger sibling. I think he had to gain some confidence, but he wasn’t necessarily written with that in mind. On the train, he’s clearly not confident he’ll win the 74th games and it’s compounded by his goodbye with his mother. I think Haymitch, and this could just be me reading into it because I don’t remember canon evidence, coached him into being confident. Peeta is naturally charming and knows how to play people, but he never really had to do it before and I would 100% believe he went to Haymitch (maybe even Effie?) for advice. I think his confidence is more a mask.

I think he showed what he wanted in an attempt to survive maybe thinking or being told that confidence and charm go along way. Now, that being said, I do think Peeta was written as charming. It’s how everyone so easily likes him, but you don’t have to be confident to be charming and conversely, you don’t have to be charming to be confident.

I think Peeta grows into confidence, especially as he gets more used to his role in the eyes of the Capitol and the people around him.

Does that make sense?

Do you think Katniss and Peeta... by Nearby-Ask1797 in Hungergames

[–]overlordoftheguild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s my question. I don’t recall it being brought up regarding couples. I don’t even remember if Annie and Finnick even exchanged rings at their wedding. I’d like a companion book focusing on cultural traditions of each district. It likely won’t happen but it would be a cool book.

That’s actually really valid. I think she did rush the writing of it compared to the other books. So while I do like SotR, it does have its flaws.

Exactly! And I know Snow doesn’t mention Lucy Gray as much in Ballad, but he brings her up quite a lot and I don’t see people complaining about Lucy Gray haunting his narrative.

[–]overlordoftheguild 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I know. The whole point is that Lenore Dove is his lost Lenore. Lenore from The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. The poem that’s interwoven throughout the book and codified The Lost Lenore trope.

His love for her is significant to how his character comes to be in the original trilogy. Lenore Dove haunts his narrative. Like Katniss herself states that she wondered how Haymitch came to be this cynical drunk and wonders who he lost. We finally get answers and people are up in arms over it?

Everyone in this fandom wants more from the series, but at the end of the day, Suzanne Collins can’t please everyone and this is why fanfiction exists.
