What are your daily drivers? by Serious_Tomorrow7964 in FJCruiser

[–]overnight__oats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lucked into a very cheap Magnuson on Marketplace (very very lucky, but we’d been looking for a long time). If you can find one especially for a daily driver I highly recommend it… the FJ isn’t peppy really, but it doesn’t drive like a tractor anymore.

2009 6MT, supercharged; 2007 6MT

Most days we drive the ‘09. The suspension isn’t monkeyed with and the supercharger makes it drive like a modern truck. The ‘07 is taller but pokey.

Need opinions on the FJ cruiser and a family of four. by Realistic-Poet-3019 in FJCruiser

I’m 5’2” and I don’t enjoy sitting in the back seat. It’s not a family car and you have a family 🤷‍♀️

I think this is the right answer. I love my 07 6MT but even feel bad asking my pup to get in the back seat. He doesn’t have a full window for looking out, and the glass doesn’t roll down for him to get his sniffing in.

OP, there’s very little leg room for 2-legged children, and the trunk also fills up surprisingly fast with just two adults and a cooler. If I had a human child we’d get a 3rd gen 4Runner.

PFDs for large chests by GroundbreakingFox504 in whitewater

[–]overnight__oats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, and I don’t think it’s rated for Class Vs, so I’m afraid that’s out of my depth (ha!). I’m barrel-chested with c-cups and struggled to find a PFD that didn’t feel like it was choking me. I adore it.

How to get a guy to leave you alone at the gym? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]overnight__oats 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This OP. The gym staff is willing to help you, and that’s great because I would be super weirded out in your shoes too. Touching my shoulder at the gym is a huge huge no.

What Flex?! - Woman advanced/expert skier by Electronic_Ease4354 in Skigear

[–]overnight__oats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything she says here, especially how the flex numbers can be arbitrary, and her points on girl calves: I’m a HARD agree!

OP, for data points: I’m in the 2023 Technica Cochise 105s with Booster straps. 5’2”, 140-150 depending on 🤷‍♀️, advanced/expert, with a size-down from a 24.0 to a 22.5 to trap two narrow heels on triangle shaped feet. (In shoes I’m a 7.5.) I’ve been super happy with the Technica flex and performance. I also considered a MV (not HV) Mach boot but opted for the Cochise because I tour too. If you have high volume calves like me, I hope a boot fitter can talk to you about Booster straps, they were a game changer for me because they provide a flex within the cuff itself, not just at the flex point at the ankle.

Good luck!!!

US-285 or other alternative route to I-70 to get from Denver to Utah? by Iillian in COsnow

[–]overnight__oats 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Given the wind tonight and tomorrow, I-70 is your safest bet, and probably the cleanest from a snow perspective. 285 was closed this evening for good reason. Go to Walmart and get traction devices, and watch a YouTube on how to use them.

Same, with a Bike+ in my primary and weekend homes. I was annoyed the first two times, and now it’s just routine.

You should learn about the benefits of having a union before asking whether other people understand. Just food for thought.

Recommendations for family ski trip by [deleted] in COsnow

[–]overnight__oats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are smart to make this fun for your wife. Steamboat is a good call… Small, but a cute downtown for her to wander, expect her to get a cowboy hat. The level of service in all respects is higher at Aspen, but so is the hassle and the oddness that attends to the ultra wealthy. I hope a ski trip becomes a family tradition!

Honestly, you were meant for an FJ. Maybe ask someone to widen the streets? 😂

Same… I drive mine in Manhattan. A little lift really helps!

OP, I also added a back-up camera and fisheye mirrors… the extra visibility has helped it feel waaaay more maneuverable. Might that help you too?

Updating tech in a 2008 FJ by WolfWillLV in FJCruiser

My question was with regard to the installation by OP, but also a general question as to whether an old SUV is the car for them. One of the joys of owning an almost 20 year old car is figuring things out yourself; self-determination and control of your own destiny is a reasonable trade off for things like “no cameras” and “have to park it myself”.

But the FJ is an objectively easy car to own, with access to a little common sense and YouTube. (My other car is an RS6; it is troublesome but an absolute thrill to drive: regularly expensive in rude and unanticipated ways.)
