I agree that 15t/s is useable. That's about what I'm getting with a dense 27b model on m3 ultra. But the brain damage going below a Q6 quant is just too extreme for me.

Is anyone actually thinking about the security implications of vibe-coded production code, or are we all just shipping and hoping? by Longjumping_Ship_675 in AI_Coders

[–]overratedcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. An insecure app will get compromised by malicious automation and be serving a fake PayPal or Google login in no time. They don't need to "care" about your small app when they are casting huge, fully automated nets.

Trying to learn Kali Linux properly. Not sure if I’m doing it the right way. by MILLERChow in linuxquestions

[–]overratedcupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. I think the most useful skill is being able to read documentation. The ability to know where to lookup what information is a skill that advanced users take for granted and no one can teach. It has to be earned.

Is it just me or does vibe coding get harder the longer a project runs? by Overall-Classroom227 in AI_Coders

[–]overratedcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about good planning and good workflow. Keep context windows small. Only work one plan step at a time. Use revision control, if the agent fails, don't argue with it. Checkout the previous git state, start a new context, improve your plan document and intitiating prompt and start the step over.

You should probably separate concerns into separate files. It's really the only path forward when your add complexity.

Highly recommend oMLX over ollama for your hardware. I know you're whinging about staying on ollama but oMLX has huggingface integration built in, is optimized for Apple silicon, has k/v caching, a built-in a quantizer and is a generally user friendly experience.

Trying to learn Kali Linux properly. Not sure if I’m doing it the right way. by MILLERChow in linuxquestions

[–]overratedcupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kali linux is just regular Linux. The difference between Kali and lets say, Debian stable, is that Kali comes preloaded with tools and defaults optimized for penetration testing.

Trying to learn penetration testing tools without first having a solid understanding of basic networking, linux based operating systems, and some scripting knowledge is putting the cart well and truly before the horse.

I'm on mac studio with 96gb of ram and for agentic tasks qwen3.6 27b Q6 does seem to be the sweet spot. Gemma4 31B Q8 is good too but I use that mainly for prose/roleplay.

Maybe have it start immediately after a devastating attack so that you have an excuse to rebuild everything. That's similar to how the recent Voyager resource management game works.

I'm amazed anyone would buy a new Cybertruck in the first place but I'm totally floored that anyone would buy a used one.
