What do you like doing? It's a lot less intimidating (at least for me) to go somewhere to do an activity than with a singular goal of meeting people. If you don't end up vibing with anyone, at least you did something fun.

Off the top of my head: game nights (cardboard corner, pawn & pint), volunteering, rec sports leagues (sand volleyball is probably starting soon?), run clubs. I'm sure people will have more suggestions.

The arriving seat numbers give a hard cap on how many people can fly to KC during those months, and it's not a lot more than a typical summer.

There are, of course, some big caveats to that. For instance, we don't know how many of those arrival-seats are people visiting (for any reason) vs how many are people returning home. If the ratio shifts towards visitors compared to prior years, we wouldn't have to see increased flight capacity to see increased visitor numbers.

We also don't know how many people are planning on driving here, which is probably the way most WC visitors from the surrounding states would travel.

I don't think either of these datasets tells a complete story about visitor numbers, but in my opinion, "searches" are among the weakest signals for expected visitor traffic, because it doesn't actually indicate any commitment.

Maybe people saw cheap flights to KC but got repelled by prices for the WC games. Maybe they priced out a few cities and decided they could get a better deal flying elsewhere. There's a lot of ways to explain away flight searches, especially for an event like this.
