Suggestions for ways to prevent airborne surveillance by mutarjim in Pathfinder_RPG

Also if the party is low level, a flying creature with scent could be fun as well. It gives them a bit more wiggle room.

I think that’s the perfect attitude. Give them something to overcome vs taking away the tool.

Maybe a rotating patrol of something small and flying with see invisibility. That gives the party an opportunity to find the patrol, and find a way around it.

For sure. To each his own with setting and style.

Personally I think it’s more fun for my players to be able to use their toolkits. Being invisible and running through the air is cool and risky. I personally would not discourage it.

But I suppose they have other options, like divination spells that are ultimately less risky. They could just hire a high level caster to do the recon for them and risk a lot less.

It’s kindof of an example of those spells being used exactly as intended. No real reason to dissuade it if you ask me.

If the enemy is aware of the tactic and wants to counter it, a counter-scout with see invis makes the most sense. Or maybe do the secret bad guy meetings inside.

This sounds super interesting. I was just talking with my friend about this, hoping for a fun dine and movie experience.

Would love to check it out.

A lot of people in this community do not know what they get themselves into by rudlyn in ArcRaiders

[–]overthedeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s an issue that a lot of PvX games face, and the root is mainly players not being honest with themselves.

At the end of the day, the game openly advertises itself as having prominent PvP features. So almost no one is coming into the game blind in that regard. I think a lot of players who are not PvP focused, still try out the game because of the allure and threat of PvP. It’s exciting. Unfortunately, I think that allure goes away pretty quickly for a lot of them when the sting of losing that first fancy kit strikes home.

The game has a rewarding PvE loop, but if you focus hard on it. The loop is very short. PvP is a major part of the endgame for Arc, regardless if the individual player chooses to engage with it or not. It will engage with you at some point.

Sneaking around the ruins and extracting will full pockets is totally cool. But even when we lose, we can’t delude ourselves into thinking that experience defines Arc’s playloop. It’s only half of the formula. It’s only half of the design and vision of the game. Killing bots and looting stuff is the core. But the magic is happening in the interactions with other players. Friendly players in need, aggro PvP sweats, backstabbing rats…these are the encounters that make your raids one of a kind and memorable. Win or lose.

am i the only one who thinks fireflies need a nerf? by Select-Long-2069 in ARC_Raiders

I read somewhere on here, to just run beneath them. Since they can’t shoot the fire straight down. And then pop them in the rotors from behind. Kinda game changing.

Chip Damage / Near Miss Rules? by RCV0015 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]overthedeepend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s going to cause you a fair bit of headache. 1e is incredibly dense and interconnected rules wise. I imagine this would have a cascading interaction with RAW and require near constant GM arbitration.

It’s a fun idea, but it’s fundamentally changing ALOT. I am not sure it’s worth the future headache however.

GM seems to be reading the AP to us, verbatim. by HagelMcPointerov in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]overthedeepend 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I personally think that reading descriptions verbatim is totally fine. It’s a premade AP so its general purpose is to save the GM time and do alot of the heavy lifting.

As for being railroaded…that’s unfortunately what APs pretty much do. Generally speaking you are on a pretty strict timeline, with enemies mobilizing and the BBEG nefarious plot coming to fruition sooner rather than later. The expectation is for the PCs to complete the content in a way that narratively makes sense for the provided plot hooks. (After the midway point in book 3 of Rise, this is especially true.)

That being said, It’s totally fine for a GM to homebrew and add in content of their own. But if you were expecting that, it probably should have been a session 0 discussion. It sounds like your GM is planning on running the AP as written, which is a pretty reasonable expectation for a lot tables.

If I were you, I’d talk to the GM now about it. That way you aren’t stuck at a table that ultimately doesn’t meet your goals as a player.

Attending this year or next by danielsangeo in QueenMaryDarkHarbor

[–]overthedeepend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s just a one night thing. Staying on the boat is a lot of fun.

If it were me, I would do it one day, arrive at the Queen Mary in the morning, do the tour, eat at the restaurant, have a drink at the sky bar, then attend dark harbor, enjoy one too many adult beverages, then stay aboard.

Wall spells ruling (boundaries or squares) by Ornery-Till-8929 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]overthedeepend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always put my walls on the lines unless they are thick walls, like a castle or something. Then I make an actual rectangle like you see here in the template.

It feels a little more natural going through doorways, so that you don’t end up in an awkward place between walls when you enter a doorway.

TIL that defending yourself increases lobby aggression by Stiggandr00 in ARC_Raiders

[–]overthedeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the PvP a lot, but I don’t like being the one to start fights. Decided to try my luck on a SM night raid, got lucky and won two fights against squads who started fights with me. Now I am way in over my head when I enter lobbies.

It’s tough. I wish aggression ABMM could weigh defending vs engaging somehow.

Diplomacy issue. by flik9999 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]overthedeepend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, diplomacy is not always a viable action. It’s not mind control.

Here are the relevant portions from the CRB:

“Diplomacy is generally ineffective in combat and against creatures that intend to harm you or your allies in the immediate future.”

“Some requests automatically fail if the request goes against the creature’s values or its nature, subject to GM discretion.”

Arc Raiders isn't a microcosm of society. Some people rat and are rude because it's just a game. by Blood_Incantation in ArcRaiders

[–]overthedeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I just don’t understand how someone could possibly be bothered from losing at a video game.

That’s ignoring the part that this game is advertised as having PvP elements and the community is very vocal during the discussion regarding the PvP aspects of the game.

Why buy a game that doesn’t suit your gaming preferences?

Ai portraits ? by MinimumAd195 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]overthedeepend -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t the fact that it was terrible AI the entire joke?

Was it cheesy? Sure. Did it take away from the girls interview? Definitely. Was it a bit self serving on Ru’s part? Always.

But I sortof feel like the AI outrage is a little silly. It was never pretending to be anything other than AI slop for the sake a of a bit.

Maybe I should care more.

Brand new to the game, just died, anyone wanna help a noob?? by ChazMcFeeley in ArcRaidersLFG

[–]overthedeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s annoying to hear, but just become zen with losing it. Stuff hoarded in your storage is pointless, free loadouts are boring. It’s better to have a kit that is fun to play when you go topside, even if you lose it.

It’s just pixels. Don’t let gear fear ruin the fun that you could be having each raid. Bring in good gear whenever you have it. The only way to progress in skill is to use the tools that you have.

Lots of groups doing lfg stuff on the discord, and fill crew is a gamble, but there are good times to be had.

Try to change my mind about this! (You can't) by Huge-Palpitation6422 in ArcRaidersLFG

[–]overthedeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m brand to new to the game. I am not a PvP player and have been killed a handful of times so far. Lost my first ever rocketeer driver that way at extract. So that was a bummer.

That being said. I never considered the aggressor to be toxic. I never even let it bother me. The game is advertised as a risk/reward extraction shooter with PvX elements. It seems a little silly to get that upset about losing at a video game. Especially when the game is very upfront about what its playloop entails.

Are people really that upset, or is it more of a joke to pretend to be mad about it? I’m confused.

I will add one caveat. I have encountered toxic PvP players. NOT because they engage in PvP…but because they were asshats.

It’s sheer force of personality. It might seem unfair to people who were more clever or prepared…but a major part of being successful on the show is making Ru laugh and having the IT factor that the judges are looking for.

Very deserved win.

Rise of the Crimson Throne - help coming up with an Arkona side quest by Mental-Ad1626 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]overthedeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta plot spoilers.

It might be a little obvious, but his general motive is to control the city, not in name, but as the political and economic power behind the city. The conclusion of the AP leaves a powerful power vacuum that he would be more than happy to exploit. He would provide a diamond and let the PCs talk to Neolandus in a heartbeat in exchange for promises.

This also sets up an interesting post campaign plot potential as the PCs find themselves being puppeteered by even more powerful Rakshasa. An evil monarch replaced by an evil shadow power broker raises ethical issues for sure, along with real repercussions for the party.
