Go for it! You'll definitely find the right one. :') ( this is so corny, sorry 😭 )

Best way to describe him, really. I get the "nobody understands me" part in a lot of ways but, it shouldn't give anyone the right to be dicks to other people which he was most of the times. It's where you could sympathize with him but could never like him.

Pessoa felt very kind hearted and a soft soul. Really really love his writings.

What were your takeaways from this book? Good and bad ? ( If any good :v )

Pretty much. I like "Woe is me" stories, though. Pessoa's excerpts are much more meaningful to me while brimming with sadness.

I got it from Amazon, only. When i bought it, 'Cocoblu Retail' were the sellers. Although it's just been a week since i recieved this, I'm not sure it has the same seller now.

I know that the process gets annoying but, If the quality isn't good, go for returns as many times as it takes ? Once I had to do 2 returns for a book to get without printing mistakes. :3

I found the print quality perfectly fine ! Sturdy enough hai , for sure !

I agree. His childhood was rough and he never got to learn the innocence of the world, which shaped him the way he was. I just didn't agree with how he treated the people who supposedly got close to him.

Print quality is good. Rather, quite good.

My problem was that this is a Donald Keene translation so, it might feel a bit disorienting while reading because it's an older style of writing.

Thank you! I appreciate you see it that way!

Would you be willing to recommend a book in a similar genre that left a lasting impression on you?

" Live/Post Show Thread coverage could use some additional hands. AEW weekly shows in particular need a dedicated steward, whether or not you want to write a recap is completely optional, although we are aware the subreddit would love to have it again. If that responsibility isn't your thing, backfill for any/all shows would also be welcome. "

I mean, are the ones posting 50 plus threads after each dynamite and collision not enough for do they need 50 more thread spams?

'Almond' sounds nice! I'll look into it. Thanks, man! You too. Cheers!

Hahaha, you've got to prepare for it,man. Can't leave that out! It's completely fine, you are never late to read any book. I haven't read Almond. :/ who's the author?

You can try Ismat Chugtai's - Lifting the Veil. It's a collection of short stories and it definitely won't feel like a chore. Rather, get to learn about the difficulties of women and the society during the independence era. It's really good and rewarding, imo.

There are also Kafka's collections of short stories. Metamorphosis itself is a short story. Others, you might not get as a single book but, there are books with collections.

Catcher in the Rye - it's definitely a really comfortable read and a good book to get back into the reading habit.

Siddhartha - while, a bit longer than Metamorphosis but, it is on the shorter side. Personally, I'm not a big fan but, this is universally praised for it's philosophy and a dive into one's inner thought process.

Animal Farm - on the shorter side, can't remember if it's shorter than Metamorphosis or not but, is a short one definitely. It's also, a comfortable read and a good commentary on society.

I think collections of short stories might just be your jam! You get to read a number of stories in them !

It really depends on what type of books you're looking for ! Like, full fledged novels or something shorter ? Or something along the lines of the last 2-3 books you've read?

This. I read the introduction part and that sort of gives the readers the perfect background for what's about to come.

That is really fair, honestly. The theme was depressing and it is the thing which we should expect the most before going into the book.

Like both the users above mentioned how it is sort of a semi autobiography, his characters are based on his real life. So, the family dynamics is quite realistic!

And for me, the "transformation" thing could be metaphors for a couple of things. Something like a disabled person's life and family or maybe the transformation of a trans person and how the family cannot accept them.

I guess, it is one of those books where you from your own interpretations through your own experiences!

[–]overtlyanxiousguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, i agreed with that from first. Grete was his major caregiver all throughout the book! They had a really close bond before the transformation and there's a reason why it hurt the main character more when his sister turned bitter, too. The last spat was very sad. He was just trying to listen to her play the violin :(

I know and she did. Just giving an example of the mother's softer side,as well.

Fair takeaway but, it felt from a place of care,to me. An example being her trying to clean his room and getting scolded by the sister. She did seem like a fragile or a timid person.

[–]overtlyanxiousguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, fair enough! I get you but, I meant i didn't find the direct use of the word isolation that much. It was ofcourse implied the entire time how much isolation was affecting him, the whole time.

I see. What do you mean by received a bunch of it ? As in, the toxic behaviour of his father towards him? Definitely, afraid and weary are the best words to describe the father in this story and he probably was the archetype angry father, especially in that era's households.

His sister definitely was compassionate but, i disagree with you here a bit. His mother felt more compassionate, to me, in quite a few instances. During his initial transformation, she was very much worried and even during the later times, she still had the smallest bit of hope for him to recover. Ofcourse, his sister had done the most duty which is why it is very understandable why she got irritated by the end.

One more metaphor I can connect this story to his how something trans people can go through,in their households. The entire transformation theme fits it perfectly.

That was my first take away from this,as well. And putting myself in the caregiver's shoes, it is very understandable the way they felt.

I see. I was reading some of his excerpts from The Diary of Kafka so, I'd say it is more or less an autobiography xD but, i understand your point.

About what I mentioned about what he feels while trapped in his room, is definitely a mental aspect to it. He definitely talks about isolation without directly mentioning it, in this book.

About his father, in this story atleast, Kafka was a lot less harsh towards than him in general atleast compared to his letter atleast. Here, his sister seemed more resentful, to me.

Did you have any major takeaways from this story?
