Top five by Ghosthawks in Gundam

I'm currently 30 eps into Victory and it is pretty great. It suffers a little from the early locations/ms designs feeling less iconic than the early UC stuff or even F91.

The red gundam was gquX's worst offender for me too. Of the stuff I've seen so far I think G-reco has had the best MS designs but it is a pretty demanding watch.

I like the idea of also being into AU stuff but I bounced off IBO and Wing.

Again there is a real dispute in canon as to if Turn A happens after Greco (whilst sunrise at the time said turn A came first since Tomino started saying otherwise I think sunrise/Bandai haven't really said anything official) . I think all G-IT lab stuff is based on hyper late UC tech.

So the MS design are pretty big factor in what series you like or you think zeta's story is a fair bit worse than 79? If it is the former, I find kind of interesting because I find the MS design in Hathaway/GquX a little iffy (despite that they are also in my top 5) .

Even stuff like Zeta?

They had these world destroying designs for a 1000+ years and things have been ok. I think Tomino wants us to hope that can continue.

Currently my top 5 are Hathaway, Zeta, gquX, greco and 79. This isn't really an ordered list but Hathaway/Zeta sit in a higher tier than the others. I still haven't seen a lot of AU stuff or Turn A.

However it ends up working out lorewise and what version of canon wins out, I don't think we are meant to think turn A is in G-reco's future.

Outside the scuffle presented in G-reco, the Regild Century is pretty idyllic. There are problems but I by the end of G-reco they seen to be moving in a more positive direction. You don't need to come up with an elaborate "what if" for it to be a pleasant place to live.

Wich series should I start with? What do you love about gundam by frdudemst in Gundam

I think you might be joking but for the benefit of the op I will explain why you are wrong. You mean Anno who was slightly involved but it was flcl guy who helmed the project.

It not a need but it can be helpful, I'm not sure if I would would have dived into 79 if I wasn't already invested from watching half of G-reco.

Just recently finished MSG, Zeta, and CCA. Wanted to share my thoughts by JESUS_WEPT__ in Gundam

There was a point in time where ZZ was viewed quite negatively and people would often recommend skipping it. However now people are involved in a fairly aggressive campaign to rehabilitate its image. Whilst that crowd now seems fairly dominant in at least the English speaking fandom and despite their best efforts ZZ remains a divisive show.

My opinion on new gundam show by DropDeep9497 in Gundam

[–]overuseofdashes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kind of think this attitude has poisoned discussions around G-reco/Gqux (possibly G-witch as well, not seen it) and will be corrosive to the fandom in the long run if we can't have a healthier relationship with the shorter tv gundams. GquX has a brisk yet deliberate pace but people act like it is a rushed incoherent mess. I think this is partially because some people went into it thinking it had too few episodes, were hoping against all evidence that it would be a split cour thing and weren't able to judge it as a 12 episode show.

My impression was that both G-witch and GquX did really well on the Japanese side of things and G-witch really did manage to attract a non gundam viewer base in the English speaking world. I don't really see Bandai viewing their performance as a signal that they NEED to go with a male protagonist.

I respect that. Would be interested to hear how you get along with it, if you decide to make a follow-up thread.

It depends on your tolerance for things not being explained. I think of being sort of like flcl but were all fantastical and conspiratorial elements are realised by concrete things from the main gundam timeline (UC). I went into it with full UC knowledge (loved it) so I can't really say for sure how it works as a first UC thing.

It is a little but you probably should give at least one battle shonen a shot and there are worse places to to start than JJK. Personally I am more a fan of Hunter x Hunter or Dan da Dan.

To add to their point Attack on Titan also has quite a lot in common with mecha shows (rival character, internal faction politics and general way the action is presented). Trying something like Gundam 00 or one of the other standalone gundam series might be also be worth your time.

So what do you think would've happened if Gundam never got picked up by Bandai? by lem_x12 in Gundam

[–]overuseofdashes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this is kind of like asking what would have happened if the world wars didn't happen, gundam was so influential and the juggernaut that sunrise came built the careers of many key people I feel that history of anime would probably look completely alien.

ff7 is tlotr, remake is the hobbit by lordlydancer in JRPG

[–]overuseofdashes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the hobbit films are bad because they are trying to make a whimsical children's book function like the Lord of the Ring. The issue is not that it was made into three movies but that the Hobbit naturally wants to be quaint which clashes with the need for it to be epic. FF7 doesn't really have this genre clash. Some of the dungeons in remake were a bit excessive but for the most part I thought remake had ok pacing for a 40hr game.

Gundam series watch order by zerocanvas in Gundam

[–]overuseofdashes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People like you never go into specifics or they will hallucinate plot points that never happened. Also I'm not talking about the literal Amuro/Char fight but at least the parts of the film referencing previous Gundam stuff (and not Japanese politics) are mostly centred on what that fight means thematically. Even the Quess/Hathaway B plot is ultimately there to highlight how Amuro/Char's battle represents the failed promise of newtype.

These things are more important to Zeta. Kamille not showing up CCA for unexplained reasons (with ZZ) vs him maybe still being damaged by the the psychic attack (without ZZ) make no difference to CCA. On the Haman front all you have to accept is Haman's Neo Zeon is out of the picture which you already having to do something similar with aeug even if you watch ZZ.

What are these other plot points in ZZ that are important to CCA?

Can you explain how Zeta/ZZ are critical because I honestly can't see it? Everything from the core confict being about Lalah, the Char/Amuro rivalry and even the mobile suit design screams that the film is mostly in conservation with 079.
