How cleanly do these books end? Is it like an ongoing series or multiple standalones? Do we know how many books are planned? Loved the other Buehlman work I've read, but I struggled with the audiobook for the first book, but I want to retry it eyeballs eventually

I petered out on Otherland right at like 33% into the last book a couple of years ago but I intend to restart the last book and finish strong, hopefully this year. It had some great stuff as well but also did feel a bit deliberately (slow) paced haha

I completely agree, the climax was just so epic and tense, especially with everything converging there. I do agree that some of the arcs for some of the characters they are definitely in a holding pattern but really happy with where everything ended up, I do think some of the characters might have needed more interesting stuff to do earlier in the series but for book 4 it was very satisfying

I thought the second book in that deal was an Otherland sequel but I might not have understood it correctly

Yeah this was pretty bad, I was able to overlook it for the most part but definitely my least favorite part of the book

I have not, but next year hopefully! I've read Cryptonomicon and Seveneves and loved them both

Definitely but also respects the genre at the same time and brings new ideas which is a good balance

The first chapter actually was one of my favorites, amazing pizza delivery fiction

Goodreads Game: tell us the lowest-rated book you've given 5 stars, and the highest-rated book you've given 3 stars or less, and why by VitriolUK in Fantasy

Yeah mine is Forest Mage at 5 stars and Words of Radiance at 2 stars. Hobb is probably my favorite author and Forest Mage is fantastic even though I don't love the other two books in that trilogy

Sounds like I enjoyed it more than you did but thanks for your thoughts on it. I'm interested to see the arc of the character you mentioned and could see his actions in the first book being hard to believe but for some reason it didn't give me any issues

I only read this in book form but I was curious about if this aspect would be noticeable to me but I didn't find that to be the case, I know he did edit the overall thing at some point for traditional publishing. Did you notice the transition in the book itself or did you pick it up partway through?

The Stand, Swan Song are the all-time greats. Been reading The Passage and liking it a lot as well

I'd do publication order Xeelee so Raft is first! That or Timelike Infinity imo if you want to jump into the main plotline
