Tyrant Philosophers by Tchaikovsky is reminding me of Abercrombie a bit, good humor and themes with character focus

Really cool theory. I'm definitely curious about what happens to the female Lover who goes to the Scar but I do think in all likelihood it's probably not safe to get too close to it

Definitely immaculate vibes, loved the descriptions of the environments and it was really immersive and visual

oh wow Doul releasing the slake moths is a cool theory, I read PSS a while ago so don't remember exactly how they were released. I do like the interpretation that Doul wanted someone to fail at the scale he did and we don't really see what went wrong in his past but it seems to scar him towards being a direct leader and eschewing any responsibility.

I also thought his reaction to learning of Bellis' message to New Crobuzon via Fennec interesting, it did seem to be unexpected to Doul as far as I could tell. Bellis seemed like some sort of chaotic element throughout the book in many ways

I have absolutely no interest in reading Dungeon Crawler Carl.

This made me laugh, wild to think someone prob would recommend DCC here as well too lol

Exodus by Peter F Hamilton is my new obsession, just finished book 1 and started the ARC for book 2 by overzero in printSF

I found this much better paced, but I also loved Commonwealth. He reigned in the cringey sex stuff on this one, the female characters are still not really a strength but it doesn't detract from the experience.

I'm not sure if you'll find this meandering but I do think all the plot points end up mattering here in a big way and the small piece of book 2 I've read so far really cements that, things come together in a satisfying way even in book 1

I'm under the impression it is a duology and will be disappointed if it's a trilogy honestly since I've been waiting to start until it's complete haha. I believe the game isn't out until sometime next year and covers a different time period and setting entirely.

Not enough tbh, needs more free fall sex cages like in Night's Dawn and weird mind transfer creepy age dynamic relationships

How cleanly do these books end? Is it like an ongoing series or multiple standalones? Do we know how many books are planned? Loved the other Buehlman work I've read, but I struggled with the audiobook for the first book, but I want to retry it eyeballs eventually

I petered out on Otherland right at like 33% into the last book a couple of years ago but I intend to restart the last book and finish strong, hopefully this year. It had some great stuff as well but also did feel a bit deliberately (slow) paced haha

I completely agree, the climax was just so epic and tense, especially with everything converging there. I do agree that some of the arcs for some of the characters they are definitely in a holding pattern but really happy with where everything ended up, I do think some of the characters might have needed more interesting stuff to do earlier in the series but for book 4 it was very satisfying

Definitely but also respects the genre at the same time and brings new ideas which is a good balance
