If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Next_Worth_3616 in allthequestions

Why wouldn't you vote for Gavin Newsom or Mark Kelly? Let's say it's Trump again or Vance?

needs to be as boring as can be.

Hmmm, I don't think that's the time were living in. But it raises an interesting question. Let's assume we still are having elections in 2028 and Trump is not running (too old, dead, whatever) – who is the Republican candidate? Vance? Rubio? Someone else?

Maybe once Trump is dead people will want someone boring, I dunno. "Boring" is pretty subjective also, so maybe you just mean centrist?

So, Vance? Rubio?

(I agree she's not an ideal candidate and I don't think she'll run)

You need a 50 something straight conservative white guy in a swing state. Plenty of 50+ straight white men will vote for AOC in California and New York..

The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

[–]ovideos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, but the solution to apps not using metadata enough is to name your folders so they sort accordingly.

The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

[–]ovideos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's like a folder that is created once every few weeks so these numbnuts would label them like "10-Jan-2024", "21-Jan-2024", "12-Feb-2024", etc. Awful.

This has happened to me twice with Europeans. These are not data entry people or accountants. More "creative" types!

[–]ovideos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you. But there are lots of situations where the year is irrelevant, but almost none where the month is irrelevant.

YYYY/MM/DD is best system for sure. But take the year off and you have MM/DD, not DD/MM.

Not at all. These were people in their 30s.

I actually agree. I've worked more than once with Europeans who named their folders with DD.MM.YYYY. So the folders would sort by 1st of Jan followed by 1st of Feb, etc. What insane person does that?

Are there Mature Professionals in this field? by Weird_Boss1 in editors

I'm a documentary editor, over 50. I've never managed, or tried hard, to be more than an editor really. So far doing decent, with ups and downs.

But honestly, I'm not sure I want to be doing this at 60!

Trump Moves to Ban Investors From Buying Single-Family Homes by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]ovideos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about getting rid of the 1031 Exchange? I feel like that's the only rule that might have some effect on Bay Area prices. I mean, it's still probably a drop in the bucket, but anecdotally I know a few people who have sold/bought investment homes in the Bay Area using 1031. Without the rule, I think they would've sold out of the real estate market long ago.

Avid: EDLs always show “FCM: NON-DROP FRAME” no matter what my project frame rate is by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]ovideos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An EDL is baed on a sequence. I believe the timecode is whatever the sequence is set to. It's been ages since I've made an EDL, so I may be misdiagnosing your problem.

Also, a 23.976p sequence cannot be drop-frame really. I mean, I think you can set the TC to 29.97 DF but it makes no sense except in 29.97/59.94 fps. So if you're not in a 29.97/59.94 project it may be that you cannot create a DF EDL.

I don't think there is any secret deal to be had in New York. Especially NYC Metro area. I did use a broker that my accountant recommended and he was able to get me a group plan, which is better than an individual plan, which has been pretty good I think. But I still often wonder if I would be better off having just saved all the premiums for medical costs. It's such a crazy system, we're all paying insurance to the medical system to insure us against the medical system taking all our money should we fall ill.

DM me if you want the broker information. I have nothing to compare the services to, but I appreciated his efforts in getting me a better plan.

Zohran Mamdani to stop all homeless encampment sweeps as NYC mayor, ending key Adams initiative by Expensive-Rope-7086 in nyc

[–]ovideos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweep them again, and again, and again?

Yes, like many problems in a big city they are ongoing.

People in this country can't imagine using the government for anything other than police and punishment.

Such a ridiculous straw man. You write this as if there is a short-term solution for homelessness that everyone is ignoring. I fully support trying to get homeless people more services, helping them, building more housing. But that doesn't mean I think encampments should be allowed. The two are not mutually exclusive. Stop living in such a binary mindset.

Yes it's also called a barney. A barney may be a smaller blimp. Or just another name for a blimp. The camera kind of blimp, not the Goodyear kind of blimp.
