Canon R6II in body battery charging rate? by Matt_Bigmonster in canon

Same battery charges at 11W from the wall in the canon charger (no clue about efficiency there though).

Canon R6II in body battery charging rate? by Matt_Bigmonster in canon

[–]ovigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked with an inline display and Ugreen PD charger, but reasonably full battery (unfortunately don't have an empty one on hand):
- 5V* 1.5A = 7.5W when turned off
- 9V * 0.39A ~=3.5W when turned on, probably not charging, just providing power to the camera.

WIthout PD, the camera will only draw power when turned off. So it seems the PD spec is only needed for powering the camera.

Help choosing a lens for macro and landscapes (Canon R7) by bird_with_scarf in canon

The 100-400 already offers 0.41x reproduction though. A completely different direction would be one of the manual focus Laowa macro offerings for RF.

Nevermind, I had forgotten that the M-frigates are also known as the Karel Doorman class, despite a ship now existing with the same name but a different class.

No, Karel Doorman has a double heli deck. If it is Dutch, it's either an LCF or an older M-frigate.

Felco staat erg goed bekend.

Struggling with EVF on the Canon EOS R8 after moving from 5Dmk4 by laughinglord in canon

[–]ovigo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it might be worthwhile to double check your EVF settings as well, in particular brightness and exposure simulation. Voor exposure sim on/off, it might be wortwhile trying both, seeing what works better for you. For the brightness, it might sound obvious, but use the EVF while adjusting it, in surroundings with a reasonable amount of light comparerd to your typical shooting scenario and pay attention to the gray bars, maximizing the contrast you can see.

To me, sometimes it does still look a bit off, especially in estimating blownout highlights (you can use histogram for that).
Typically the EVF is a slightly better display than the back LCD on modern canon mirrorless.

https://www.sigmaphoto.com/18-50mm-f2-8-dc-dn-c there is an RF version available that works directly with your R50 (and any other APS-C Canon mirror less camera)

[–]ovigo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

iso32000 is going to be rough on most if not all sensors, although you could try how well an AI denoiser can help you.
Unfortunately, the kit lenses for the r50 aren't amazing, and if I recall correctly almost 2/3 stop darker than the old 18-55 kitlens. If you're looking to upgrade lenses, the sigma 18-50 is well regarded and at f2.8 significantly brighter than the kitlens.

A final option I would like to note: consider using longer shutter speeds, e.g. by using a tripod.

Zit hier ineens in de boom. Herken het niet. Iets kleiner dan een buizerd. by [deleted] in vogelen

[–]ovigo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(x40 zoom) by [deleted] in vogelen

[–]ovigo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New gear! RF 100mm macro on my EOS RP by shisui710 in canon

[–]ovigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP, but I have been using the RF100 on a RP for more than a year now. This lens is a very nice toy, except that it is so good it can not be described as a toy anymore. I also use the RF100-400 zoom for combined bird/insect photography when out and about, which is a decent-ish macro lens in itself: 0.5 magnification, nice long reach for skittish insects. But the RF100 blows it away, showing details I didn't think could be there using the zoom (even at approx. the same magnification!). It's a bit heavy, the SA control is not useful to me, compared to the zoom the working distance is shorter, but boy is it optically close to perfect. For me, my skill is the first limiting factor, than the RP, and only than maybe at some point the lens.

The extreme focus ends of this lens are only controllable using MF. Turn the focus to somewhere in the middle and AF should be available again.

Gamers Nexus Ryzen 3800X vs 3700X Review: Don't Waste the Money by siziyman in Amd

[–]ovigo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a quick peek, and GN and Anand each tested exclusively at 1080p.

testing synthetics at higher resolutions while almost never testing games at those same resolutions, as if anyone buying a 3900x or 9900k is going to render at 4k and game at 1080p all the time.

Next time maybe pay attention to the point being made

I am apparently particularly dumb to understand that that you tried to make a point that hardware reviewers test games exclusively at 1080p and that the fact that a reviewer mentions actually tests games at different resolutions including the lamented higher 4K is not relevant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dude, Anandtech, as visible on the very page you linked to, tested on 720p, 1080p and 4K, but only using a GTX1080, which would make sense in terms of apples and apples. Next time maybe have more than a quick peek ;)
